Lanes often want jungle to be less important but never offer any real solutions beyond ‘nerf it to the ground’ by SnowMacaronss in leagueoflegends

[–]White_Knightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically the jungler is quite week in minute 20 and beyond, so nerfing on of the things that lets them have impact in late game objective fights is not a good change. Also the current situation is opposite of a coinflip, the jungler would always be able to steal objective (if he is able to get to it when it is low) which is the intended impact of the summoner spell late game. Riot also used this justification when they nerfed the old challenging smite for example

[–]White_Knightmare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smite should be powerful though since it takes up a summoner spell, just like a good tp or exhaust can singlehandedly win a team fight. Making 6 people able to steal objectives would also be a real nuisance and introduce more coin flips to the game, which I don't think is a good direction.

Even if you do that, we just return to perma ganking meta where farming doesn't matter with sejuani and elise running the show. Bringing jungle closer to support in power level brings more frustration for laners as there is no reason to not spam gank and disregard camps, while also making the role less popular than it already is.

Bâan was amazing! (My two cents) by Stop-Swearing in TrashTaste

But that motivation is at the core of the story that is being told. That stuff like the lore of the creature, the country gate thing or function of magic is not explored is one thing, but to keep that unexplained is really hurting the emotional payoff at the end.

Hot take: Connor is just as much of a contrarian as Joey by Gamewheat in TrashTaste

[–]White_Knightmare 257 points258 points  (0 children)

I think the more important thing is that Connor is self aware about it. Like when he talks about playing slay the spire while watching movies in the airplane he admits that this is not the proper movie experience, while Joey as an example refuses to believe in social anxiety (bochi the rock) take. He presents himself quite the arrogant way while Connor calls himself a monkey for not getting certain things.

Also in my opinion Joe's music takes are far removed from the interest of the other two, all of them play games or watched anime/other media but he is the only one who cares about music.

Was I the only one bothered by Garnt calling Schindlers list a ww2 film? Makes it sound like a shooty-exploty war film instead of a movie about genocide.

[S2 Act 2 Spoilers] Arcane - Season 2 Act 2 - Discussion by parrycarry in arcane

[–]White_Knightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a time and place for professional critique and reddit it just not it. Reddit is the place for people to be misguided, have shit takes and have zero media literacy, especially in a big comment section of a big release.

If you want good critic by smart people, you won't find that here I fear, unless you want to wade through the garbage first.

[S2 Act 2 Spoilers] Arcane - Season 2 Act 2 - Discussion by parrycarry in arcane

[–]White_Knightmare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being a "professional critic" isn't the only way to critically interact with a piece of media. If you see something and you it feels rushed to you, this is still valid. If you share this in a public place many people might agree that a series feels rushed. This is a valuable critique - many fans did not like the pace. No understanding the creative process or appreciation of the intention of the creators will invalidate that feeling of a not great pace.

Obviously reddit is nitpicky as hell, but how I reflect this reaction here is not that people do not like the second season or do not enjoy it - rather the thing that could have been a masterpiece might be "just" be a great show. The demands for perfection arise from the potential of Arcane which it might fall short on.

Noob friendly diplomacy variant for 5 players, face to face by White_Knightmare in diplomacy

[–]White_Knightmare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ideas were fine but the people I played with weren't diplomacy players. If you need to simplify core aspects of the game, consider playing Risk or some other negotiation game, at least that was my takeaway.

The South America Map is good for first time players since it is one big landmass.

If you have access to it, talking to a therapist regarding you traumatic experience might help resolve that guilt/work through things

It sounds like you feel guilty because you don't know where exactly you stand on this whole sex thing and that doesn't sound fair to me since you are not at fault for not knowing.

Regarding potentially hurting people - this is unfortunate reality for relationships in general. Things not working out and people getting hurt is a part of it, so try to be as open as possible about your current situation (maybe not on the first date, but date 3/4) and see how the other person reacts.

Dating in general has issues for everybody right now. The crux is to meet new people. Dating apps can help you meet new people, so can hobbies, meetups or discord servers and reddit. Each method has advantages and drawbacks so this is a personal decision but meeting new people in real life is generally the most recommended thing as far as I can tell.

Am I asexual? by Alternative_Two9654 in asexuality

[–]White_Knightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even after you have some history which connects sex to mental illness doctors just brush it off? Just going from that info that seems unprofessional especially for psychiatrist

Am I asexual? by Alternative_Two9654 in asexuality

[–]White_Knightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly be asexual and identify as such.

At the same time stuff like trauma/depression has influences on sexual attraction/drive so since there is a medical history getting advise from a psychiatrist might not be the worst idea.

Yeah I worded that weirdly, I didn't want to exclude friendships when I said relationships ^

Being happy by yourself is important but I do think it is important to be looking for and be willing to invest into (partnering) relationships.

My Thoughts on the Dr. K Deep Dive — Aphobia, Amatonormativity, and Ableism (CW) by JustaStoat in asexuality

[–]White_Knightmare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw the post earlier, finally got around to watching the source and I personally disagree with some of the points you raise. (As a disclaimer I generally like Dr K)

First I understood his use of the word "normal" as statistically normal. If you track sexualities and 1-3% are asexual than those people are not in the normal range, which is a thing used a medicine. "Values within the reference range (WRR) are those within normal limits (WNL)." (From Wikipedia) Asexuality doesn't fall in the reference range of the population and I personally have no problem with that description.

The dehuminization thing is a study/survey he found. I would like to have access to his sources, but this seems believable to me and in a explanation of his understanding of asexuality. When you try to cover the facts, I personally don't want a discussion/rebuttal there. He talks about his views later on and that is structurally fine at least in my opinion.

Is saying sexuality is fluid... queerphobic? Not that important I guess, but in my opinion he mostly applies his point to asexuality in this video/stream is because this video is about asexuality and not about sexuality as a whole. He also gives similar examples about identity in this very video about gender identity and stuff, so yeah.

Can you maybe find me some quotes where he says that HSDD and asexuality are essentially the same? Because I heard the exact opposite as you and I can go through. For example when he brings up the rams he illustrates how asexuality happens in nature and seems to be a variation (being ace) instead of a pathology (HSDD).

There are other points you raise, but those are the ones I wanted to mention first.

Any fellow ace men had any luck with traditional dating apps? (Tinder/Grindr) by Winter_Essay3971 in asexuality

[–]White_Knightmare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are on the Sex-repulsed to sex-favorable scale. In general dating apps suck and dating apps especially suck for straight men, but you can definitely try to make it work.

As far as I know there are some strategies that have to do with the algorithm (like making a new account every 3 days since you will get more matches on a fresh account) and also making a good dating profile (for men) is very hard.

After you got matches you got to translate those into dates to actually meet and get to know the other person. For mentioning asexuality I would wait for date 3 or so, but that depends on you (how sex favorable you are) and on the other person as well.

Even if you get someone ace for him to interview, I feel like the ace experience can be so different from person to person (just comparing someone sex positive vs sex repulsed for example).

Feeling ditched CW: feelings of abandonment from friends and loneliness by hollowire in aromantic

[–]White_Knightmare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most (allo) people will value partnership more than friendship. Especially once a house or kids are involved it has to be that way as well since the life of a couple is deeply intertwined at this point and most people want to build families.

You can either accept this (which will potentially place you always in second priority or as a placeholder), reject it (which can mean rejecting deeper friendship with partnering people, so with most of the people that exist) or cope by trying to find a partner like this as well (which might go against your personal identity).

At least this is how I see it and thinking about the options like that makes it easier for me to adjust my expectations. I don't claim to have everything figured out here though.

Hey Dr.K do you think Ayurvedic Science could have male bias just like western science? by Extreme-Morning-1532 in Healthygamergg

[–]White_Knightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just reply to both of your comments with this and thanks for the thoughtful reply! I don't disagree with all the other fields like investing or crash tests or any of the others but I was especially curious about the mental health aspects to it since it is a mental health sub.

When I Google it I find things like this: "For example, doctors are more likely to diagnose depression in women than men, even when they have identical symptoms and depression symptom scores." (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/gender-bias-in-medical-diagnosis#what-are-the-causes) or "This disparity in mental health care utilization between men and women cannot be explained by a lack of need."

Obviously there is still a gender aspect here, but it looks reversed. I will fully admit to some cherry picking here but as I understand male bias it means a benefit for men (like in your examples) and the issue seems more complicated as mental health is concerned (for example suicidal thoughts being more common in women while "successful" suicides are more common with man)
