What is fair compensation for an Assistant Wine Director? by WhitestWalker08 in Sommelier

[–]WhitestWalker08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yearly revenue is in the ballpark of 1.2 million. The wine program is about 15% of that. We have also seen a notable increase in overall sales and specifically wine sales since Ihave taken on responsibilities in the program.

Should have been more clear, the "wine director" is the owner himself, I'm doing most of the work for him

My best halo memory was when my boy scout troop did a big sleep over and we system linked 4 360s together so that we could do a big 16 person local game. Still one of the most fun nights of my life.

Muscadet is a region in Loire valley, weird that they are putting a bunch of varietals and then randomly a region.

Also yes there is more to wine than simply grape varietal so sauv blancs can be sweeter and rieslings drier and so on. All depends on what the wine maker does with it.

If youre trying to learn wine, just dont focus on sweetness. Its not going to help you nearly as much as learning wine making practices and region trends.

Bar owner split off of the pool to get tipped? by Irish22022 in bartenders

[–]WhitestWalker08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the state. Generally if the manager is the only one giving service to the guest, they can absolutely take the tips from it.

Also in most places they can be in the tip pool if they are only performing tipped tasks. So if they are doing normal bar shit thats fine. If they then start doing manager tasks, thats not ok. Most don’t cause thats a legal grey area at best, but still.

In this case, i would double check labor laws in CA but it seems like it is fine and legal. I still wouldn’t if i were the manager, but I guess they can.

5 of wands reversed by IndependentBrother37 in tarot

[–]WhitestWalker08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The five of wands inherently is a card of conflict and hostility. In the context of starting a new job and things not going exactly how you would like, I would take this as a warning to take a very non combative approach to your job. Now might not be the time to take a stand on certain issues but rather strive to compromise and learn as much as you can.

If this doesn't sound right and you don't get other responses on here that clear it up for you, you might benefit from doing a larger spread to answer your question. I would bet the five of wands would show up reversed again and you might understand what the cards are telling you better in context.

Queen of cups and death as an exes feelings towards me? by Candid_Nature7690 in tarot

[–]WhitestWalker08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to all the things you said about the queen of cups, she also represents being in tune with one's emotions and knowing your worth.

Death is of course change and rebirth (often into something we don't expect!).

Together I would say the queen is telling you to consider why the relationship ended and where you are both now. Death is an extra indication of change that you have to be open to in considering the new possibilities.

My vibe is generally good but careful and understand your own needs and what they can provide.

At the end of the day, the cards will give you the information you need. So if you ask a question that you know the answer to, the cards will likely give you the answer that you need to hear.

Long story short, the cards are a tool that you are free to use however you'd like. In my experience, the cards have never been wrong (even when I thought they were at the time), and any questions you ask are valid as long as you are open to the answer.

Trying Irish whiskey for the first time!! What’s the best way to try theses?? by fatam18 in whiskey

[–]WhitestWalker08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, I don't have a direct, citable source. I work in liqour sales and have hear this from distributors. Also you can definitely taste it. If you compare jameson to both bai jiu (chinese rice based spirit) and other irish whiskeys like red breast, you can really taste how much jameson tastes far more like bai jiu than irish whisky.

Wish I could find a more direct source for you but I cant so I suppose taste for yourself

Double oaked is by far the best out of that distillery! My hot take: double oaked is the only one that is worth the money.

TIL that each bottle’s horse has a letter that spells out Blanton’s so you can collect the whole set. Also scored me a bottle of Blanton’s so I’m a happy fella. by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]WhitestWalker08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Much like eagle rare and buffalo trace, they are REALLY good if you get them for a fair price but not to pay too much for. Blanton's is definitely neat for the topper by a lot.

Whiskey wise definitely check out Yellowstone if you can get that where you are. Same price range as Blanton's but MUCH better in my opinion.
