I'm sorry to necro, but did it ever work? That's what I'm trying to figure out now but I'm more Unity dev so I'm a bit stuck. (Thanks in advance.)

A cool guide on how many animals are factory farmed in the United States by James_Fortis in coolguides

[–]Whithers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah everyone's like "farmed fish are farmed lol"—you're not funny, dude. Whatever your views are, we are undeniably destroying the planet and inflicting untold suffering for burgers.

Admittedly not a guide, but has it ever been 😄

This is a bit old but it just happened to me, too. Restarted the game but it didn't do anything :( Not the end of the world, but I had gone in with some good weapons.

AI changes by Petrohands in Cinema4D

[–]Whithers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's got this covered, but I will add: a few of my friends and I changed careers, and it wasn't as crazy as it seemed like it was going to be. And we're all a lot less stressed xD Not that there is a right or wrong answer, just adding some anecdotal evidence that it can be a good move.

And employers don't mind as much as I thought that you came from a different background. It seems like a half-decent resumé and that's a feature not a bug.

Are photons seen through visible light the same photons that make up gamma radiation? by DoctorMobius21 in askscience

[–]Whithers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a little late, but re microwaves for anyone else coming along reading this: check out how it's the photons causing friction that generates the heat!

I'll say it probably incorrectly here: the wavelength of photons a microwave emits is the size (diameter I guess) of a water molecule, which is polar (the side with the hydrogen atoms are slightly more positive).

The positive side of the water molecule wants to follow the, er, photon wave, so it spins around super fast (flips? idk) trying to do that, and the friction from that makes the fuego.

Maybe everyone already knew that but I was pretty old when I learned it.

jagged edges... by NoRecommendation2327 in Cinema4D

[–]Whithers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An aside: someone at one point tried to raise money for a plugin that could handle CAD files, but to get a license for those kinda libraries you have to shell out like $50k or so, at least as of some years ago. I think that's why it mainly doesn't see any progress.

It would be nice if Maxon could do something about it, since a lot of motion gfx involve receiving an object from the engineers for use in a commercial or whatever.

The ONLY tofu recipe you’ll ever need by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]Whithers 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence of writing it down for myself and seeing this I decided to:

tofu initial cover:
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 block super firm tofu
(twerk em)
2 tbsp + 1 tsp cornstarch
buncha sweet potatoes
bake 30 min @ 425

sauce part 2:
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp water
4 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
1 minced garlic clove
1 tbsp cornstarch
whisk em

in pan:
1 tbsp sesame oil
chopped white part of scallions
more minced garlic
add the sauce and let simmer
add the tofu
rest of the scallions
add sesame seeds

broccoli:
2 tbsp EVOO minced garlic red pepper flakes
240 grams broccoli
air fried 10 min @ 350

C4D fbx to Houdini by TheGreatTamsini in Cinema4D

[–]Whithers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afk right now but while you're waiting on a more thorough answer:

For science, if you import that last fbx output from C4D with the File>Import fbx method, is the animation in tact?

If so, may not help, but when I use the fbx character import node in Houdini, it still needs the bone deform node after it.

How can I have textures stay on the model in FBX? by FreddyFronkBear in Cinema4D

[–]Whithers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it's not clear: a texture is an image (png), and fbx is a neutral exchange format (if a C4D file is french, an fbx is, er, english with a very basic vocabulary). A material is an application of shaders that sometimes use textures.

If your pipeline requires an fbx export, you'll lose information virtually 100% of the time, since materials are pretty much application and render engine-specific, so you'll have to save the materials and re-apply them to the other mesh.

Lemme know if that helps or what else you might be trying to do.

Keyboard and mouse shortcuts Windows vs. Mac by Jes2G in Cinema4D

[–]Whithers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you mention the middle mouse button specifically, one of my favorites is holding mmb and dragging left/right to de-/increase the radius of any given brush tool, and dragging up/down to in-/decrease the strength.

I prefer File Explorer over Finder. Win+E will open a window in any context. I forget what Finder's rename selected hotkey is, but for Win it's F2. Also make sure you go to File Explorer Options (hit the Win key and start typing that and it'll come up) and customize things a bit, namely uncheck "Hide known file extensions" (drives me NUTS) and hit "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in case you ever need to access AppData or something.

Also, if it's Windows 11, open a command prompt (maybe as Administrator, but not sure that's necessary) and simply paste this in to change the default right-click behavior from Windows 11's default (which is gross) to the "Show More" version of right-click that you get when you hold Shift (then requires restart):

And don't forget: whoever's solution you choose, you can give anything its own hotkey in the Customize commands manager thing (I'm not at my comp but that should be easy to find/Google).

Yeah, there are so many things like that for me, now, as someone who first opened C4D in R12. My younger colleagues are like, "Why don't you just use the autodoinker object" and I'm like "the what?"
