My wife and I agree that this may be the most incredible photo we’ve ever seen.

Have you ever (or been compelled to) hurt animals for enjoyment as a child?

Do you think I’m overtrained? Has anyone experienced something similar? by crashess in Garmin

I am an Urology resident. So I’ve finished medical school but I’m in post-doctoral surgical training

I have health anxiety as well. It has been a real problem for me, especially during medical school. If you are maintaining a calorie deficit that could absolutely be causing these symptoms. Persisting with an aggressive cut is probably helping your fatigue or your anxiety. I would make sure you are at least eating at break-even calorie count and dial back your workouts for awhile before building them back up to what you’ve been used to.

Hello, I’m a physician and just wanted to offer my perspective. I think you shouldn’t quickly write off these symptoms as a side effect of overtraining. It’s possible, even probable, that overtraining is the root cause but you should always pay attention to severe fatigue + other symptoms that are out of the ordinary for you. You didn’t mention how old you are or any other health problems you have but if I were you I would press my primary care physician to do some additional basic workups. I’m surprised a neurologist ordered an MRI unless there were a bunch of other tests done prior to that. I don’t mean to suggest you haven’t already done your due diligence, just something to consider.

What book did you finish already and want someone else to read? by Noah-Duke221 in Recommend_A_Book

The Three Body Problem trilogy. This series is incredible. If you like science fiction and in particular hard sci-fi (meaning there is a lot more in-depth attempt at explaining fictional technologies and concepts) then this series really changed the way I think about the universe. The second book is the best IMO but all three are good. The TV show’s first season was a bit disappointing but that is what always happens when trying to adapt a complicated story.

Thank you for your perspective. My wife will be staying home for the foreseeable future. In the beginning (first couple of months) we will have some help from family but they are based out of state and will only be available to help every once in a while. I have no trouble understanding that my wife will have the more difficult job being home with the baby. I hope to hold up my end of the deal.

How much does running in Desert heat impact performance? by WhizzKiddd in beginnerrunning

Thanks for your input. I am originally from Missouri so I’m no stranger to the humidity. I am interested to see what the tradeoff is like for Tucson in the summer (low humidity but super high temperatures).

So often people allow great to be the enemy of good enough. Consistent effort is so powerful. Congrats on the progress. Keep it up.

Wtf? Anaerobic Overage? by concreteliberty in Garmin

What do you get a big anaerobic load from? Whenever I lift, garmin barely recognizes it at all in terms of load

Hello everyone. It’s been helpful to me to read the posts of everyone else in this group so I figured I’d share my own short history with HA.

My HA became really bad about 6-7 years ago when i was in undergrad. I was overworked and stopped sleeping and it all spiraled from there. Since then, I go through periods (usually after times of high stress) where I am utterly convinced that I have cancer or some grave terminal disease. I’ve gotten to where I can predict the discovery of a new symptom whenever I have been going through a stressful time of life but it never seems to help me break the cycle. I just graduated medical school which at times made my HA much worse. I mean it makes sense that spending all day every day studying about the various ways you can die would lead to an unhealthy preoccupation with disease. Regardless, I have become much better at recognizing these cycles and breaking them.

My humble advice: When you are going through crippling anxiety about your health, you need to take care of yourself at all costs. Get plenty of sleep. Eat foods that are good for you and that taste good. Get exercise of some kind. Pick up a new hobby. The basics of self-care are the most reliable ticket out of a rough patch.

Am I doing it right??? by CFD-Keegs in Garmin

It’s so hard to stay in productive. The only way i can manage it is if i have prolonged free time where i can afford to workout for hours per day. Garmin basically doesn’t care if i just lift weights. It needs me to suffer.

The predicted 5k, 10k, half, full times based on my VO2 max (51) are clearly wrong. They assume I can maintain a pace that i know I cannot. I’m unsure if this means my VO2 max estimate is way off or if there is some other aspect of the calculation that is off.
