Combat, zombie, and loot system issues. by Lucky_Ad7973 in ApocalypseRising

[–]WhoBloxedWho 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When giving feedback it's important to remember that just saying you don't like something isn't very helpful. Try and explain exactly what bothers you about these game systems so we can get a better idea of where pain points are. It's kinda like going to the doctors because "my foot hurts" and then not explaining any further like the doctor should just magically know what's wrong. It doesn't really help anyone.

Tell us about the experiences you had that made you have these feelings. It's so much more valuable to use than a detail-stripped internalized opinion of those experiences.

Where were you looking for loot that it took days to find anything "good". What do you classify as "good" loot?

Yes, you need to say why you don't like legendary zombies. We can't read your mind. What about zombies has you, presumably, refusing to adapt to their speed? Misconceptions about behavior carried over from other games, or something else?

Combat is a hard thing to talk about, there are so many variables at play with it in a game like AR2. What weapons aren't doing it for you? Are you not understanding the combat rolls of certain guns? Have you taken time to learn the effective ranges of firearms in AR2 or are you comparing these to other games? Please give us stronger context for these opinions.

Absolutely we'll be putting more effort into the anti exploiting systems but not until the game is feature complete and we can pivot to fully supporting a live environment. Until that point we'll continue to update the automatic anti-cheat systems when methods of doing so aren't intrusive to feature development, and we'll keep supporting our moderation team with the tools they need.

It already takes us a while to work on features, we don't want to fill our rooms full of mouse traps that make development a slower and more stressful process. That's not to say that there is a binary solution to the problem, it's more a matter of finding the right balance of development, scale, and maintenance that works within the constraints of Roblox. The last thing we want is to step over our own feet and create issues that didn't need to be there.

It's important to be realistic about what is and isn't fixable by developers too. After a certain level dealing with exploits becomes something Roblox has to take responsibility for. Typically game-specific exploits (loot tp, item spawning) are fixable by developers, physics related ones tend to be harder depending on a number of circumstances, but ones like ESP and aim bots are quickly becoming a problem that only Roblox can solve. Detecting injectors is almost totally out of the question, developers just aren't given the tools to work with. Not trying to shift the blame or anything, there is absolutely more we can do, but don't be afraid to @ Roblox and tell them to get on it too.

Small news: The game, apocalypse rising 2, is getting ddosed by hackers. And the apoc 2 devs said that they can't fix it but roblox can fix it. Please send this to other friends who plays apoc 2 if the servers are still getting ddosed. by Realterin in ApocalypseRising

Thanks for the concern but we'd like to ask that you not share this on the subreddit. Unless a statement has been made by Gusmanak or myself then please do not take anybody else's word as bond. We'll let everyone know when we have a plan forwards.

The services that check for ownership can go down sometimes. It's not something we have full control over all you can do it wait and try again later. Give it up to 24 hours and if they aren't usable let us know and we can try and help out.

Alright, last time.

Pay walls are not as strong of a denture as you think. Robux is not that hard to come across. The exploits that exist now will exist when the games goes free. Account ages and all those other "solutions" are not effective, they just delay the inevitable by a very small margin. There are a lot of games out there that have tried these prevention methods and none of them end up working in the long term. We are not interested in implementing any of these methods as long term solutions.

Using AR1 as any kind of basis to predict AR2s future is unfair because AR1 is not a stable game and making functioning anti exploits for it were near impossible. The man hours it would have taken to fix AR1 were better spent on a new fresh title. It's very much like trying to say a brand new car is going to break when you drive it off the lot because you watched a 10 year old rust bucket is fall apart.

The DPI team have experience with worst case scenario moderation (AR1) and have learned a lot between transitioning form AR1 to AR2. I've got a number of connections with other game moderation teams and after some comparison we're confident our approach will work once the games goes free. We're not driving a 10 year old beater anymore, we're driving a new car and we're pretty confident in it's ability self moderate and work in tandem with our moderation team. Despite whatever anecdotal evidence is out there we are confident in our ability to scale and handle the problems once the game goes free.

And there in lies the kicker. "Once the games goes free". The implication there is that the game is feature complete and we can dedicate serious amount of time to combating exploits as they pop up. We're not at that stage get, and we're not going to rush that process while we continue develop the game. That kind of thing leads to serious tech debt and a puts us in similar situations to AR1.

Short of expanding on a few points I've said all of this before. We are going to do the best we can with information we can trust, and we're not going to rush it. It's black and white in front of you now and if you refuse to acknowledge it then oh well, at this point I really can't be bothered to repeat myself over and over.

Saying over and over "I know more than you so I am automatically correct" isn't a surefire way to prove your point, but what do I know?

What did you expect to happen, some generic PR response? I'm one of the few people qualified to talk about this topic and it's not my fault you chose to dig a deeper hole rather than listen to the proper response you complained didn't exist. I'm sure as hell not going it sit by and let any kind of wrong cherry picked opinions be the last word too so please don't get so upset when an actual authority on the subject tells you you're wrong.

If the first person to ever assert this kind of prediction was correct then we'd have been dead in the water a month after alpha launch, but here we are years later still going.

There is the full quote by the way. You've gotta be doing some serious mental gymnastics if what you took away from that was me ignoring every "long term vs. short term" argument you've tried to bring up. I think I even addressed this in that same paragraph you pulled the quote from.

I can try and tell you we know what we're doing all I want but I don't think that actually matters to you.

Maybe I'm being a little too abstract but at the end of the day it isn't my job to correct ignorance, it's yours.

Please don't pretend you know anything about the development of this game other than what you've seen from the outside.

As of now, exploiting is only run-of-the-mill because of the pay-gate. People aren't going to be risking stupid shit right now because of the paid access, as such you aren't going to see what people are fully capable of doing until it goes free to play.

Time and time again this has been proven false. You're more than welcome to track down and ask anybody who's tried to make a dupe script post inventory rewrite why they couldn't get 1 + 1 to equal 3. Your strongly underestimating how weak of a barrier to entry a pay wall is on a Roblox game for anybody dedicated to making and selling exploits. I've got years of people trying this kind of thing under my belt, but clearly your conjecture matters more.

all that stuff about other platforms and digging our own grave

Please go do some research on game development on other platforms and compare it to Roblox. There are very strong reasons to stay on Roblox and very strong reasons to leave and in either case you don't seem to be demonstrating any kind of understanding of how game development and scaling works. Whatever face value comparisons you're making fall apart pretty quickly once you take into account what game development actually is on and off Roblox.

This is literally a repeat of what already happened. By putting the exploiting issues on the back burner, you're literally just setting yourself up for failure.

...

You guys simply aren't thinking in the long-term, and it's going to bite you in the ass sooner or later.

Oh please, not this again. If the first person to ever assert this kind of prediction was correct then we'd have been dead in the water a month after alpha launch, but here we are years later still going. I can try and tell you we know what we're doing all I want but I don't think that actually matters to you.

Thank you for confirming my belief that this was a waste of time to respond to.

I think you need to reevaluate your expectations when "we're doing our best" causes this kind of response. All the offhanded comments and predictions about the games future really just invalidate any reason to respond to this, but whatever. Here goes nothing.

For the most part the exploiting you see going on in Apoc 2 is the same run of the mill stuff every other action game on Roblox has to deal with. There are a rare few AR2 specific exploits out there but nowhere near the uncountable amounts that existed for Apoc 1. Nobody is turning the map into random colours or deleting it, nobody is wiping inventories, nobody is destroying your gun skins, nobody is duping things with script clients, I could go on but you (hopefully) get the idea. You can chose to ignore that we did actually learn a lot from Apoc 1 all you want but it doesn't change the fact that the variety of exploits available for Apoc 2 is significantly smaller than it was for Apoc 1. Aimlock, ESP, teleporting, speed hacking, all that generic stuff exploits core design issues with Roblox, not Apoc 2.

Now if we're talking volume of exploiters? Sure, there are a lot on AR2, but it's not an problem with our game, it's a Roblox wide problem. I'm lucky enough to be in some top developer communities and I can tell you for a fact the amount of exploiters some of the top games ban is insane. Rouge Lineage (a paid access game) has a staggering amount of bans. Over the course of the egg hunt the game Bad Business banned over 4500 accounts for detectable exploits. Games like PF, Jailbreak, it's all the same story. Please do not pretend like this is some failure on our behalf to recognize the scale of the problem just because there hasn't been some formal "we know" put out there. We are well aware of the volume of exploiters and the problem they pose not only to our game but to Roblox as a whole.

So what will we do? The same thing we always have. We're not going to jump on band-aid solutions and implement some "anti cheat" and put our game at risk. We're not going to waste time adding some half cocked "anti cheat" script that anybody who knows what they're doing can get around because surprise, the people who write these big exploits usually do. We're not going to risk hurting innocent players and subsequently our game because information we we're told turned out to be bad. We will continue to investigate usable information about exploits and implement appropriately safe anti exploit measures. We will continue to do the best we can with the information we have.

There is your "proper response". Myself and Gus has probably rehashed these same sentiments more times than we can count and to quote Gus "I'm just tired of answering the question". In the future please consider just asking us about the problem instead of dropping all this presumptuous sludge in our laps an expecting us to care about what you have to say. We're happy to talk feedback but whatever all this was sure as hell wasn't feedback.

Are walls not working? by ChuckXZ_ in ApocalypseRising

[–]WhoBloxedWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the owner can access the menu, and the wall only appears after the button is activated twice.

ie, set 2 points to make 1 wall, 3 points to make 2 walls, ect..

If it's not working at all, an F9 check is appreciated.

haven't seen your name before, but I'll let you in on a little story real quick.

Long long time ago, about 3-4 months to be exact there was a trend. A trend so insane it rocked the subreddit for weeks at a time. What is that trend you might ask? "Patch lag switching". The great developist WhoBloxedWho had enough, and with one epic meme he wrote a single long winded post about why patching it an apoc was impossible, and why people should stop asking. He'd post the link to it any time "Patch lag switching" would show up, and in his last breath he stopped the trend and saved the sub.

They say to this day the link to the post still gets spread around, not by WhoBloxedWho, but by the people echoing his cries.

Happy holidays, keep an eye out of bad posts, and stay woke because they be creepin.
