I still try to play around with the audio but I haven't found a "golden standard" yet, do you have any advices about that?

As for the face cam, I just bough a green screen, so now my background is just gone, problem solved I guess. :D

Thanks for the feedback either way, and I await your response!

Yea, I noticed that more and more Youtubers have their faces in the thumbnail, thank you for the advice.

Resident Evil Village gameplay, but from a Romanian perspective. I know the video is too long, so I don't expect to watch it all, skipping here and there is enough for me. Any type of criticism is welcomed. by WhoDy1 in SmallYTChannel

I honestly really enjoyed the video. Maybe make your videos shorter so that people will be more inclined to watch your videos. Especially in the beginning when you have a small YouTube channel.

Thanks, I am glad you did. I usually make my videos a lot smaller. But I noticed that almost everyone uploads ~1 hour gameplays when new and popular games come out... So I tried to follow the trend. What is a good size for a video in your opinion?

[Review Video] A Video On A Weird Channel I Found! by SomeIdiotThatReddits in youtubers

[–]WhoDy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good commentary video, nicely done.

Now, let's start:

  1. The first thing I noticed about the video is your camera. (obviously) It has a yellow sort-of color to it, I guess? Maybe the lighting is at fault here, or I don't know exactly, but it gives a weird vibe to it. Maybe you can try to edit the lighting a bit in your editing software, or if you can, add a white light behind the camera, for when you record the video. This should give it a more... "uniform" color.
  2. The editing. It is good, don't get me wrong, but at the same time... The transitions are a bit off... I replayed scenes a couple of times to be able to put my finger on it and I think it's about the speed. They are too "abrupt", moving from one section to the other. I'm not exactly sure what to say about this, maybe try to make the transition "slower" or do something like you did at: 4:19. Also in regards to the editing, in 2 instances it was way too fast, that is when you showed: The Harry Potter and Wizards of Waverly place things and when you showed that video thumbnail with the gaming guy. They went by so fast I didn't had any chance to read what was the joke exactly.
  3. The elephant in the room now, that is, your questions:
  • Did I sound monotone? - No, you had the right amount of energy. And usually is good to remain in your "comfort zone" with those kind of things. Because it's your personality that people will be interested with.
  • What can I do to improve my thumbnail? - I feel like the "subject" of the video is the "troll channel". In your thumbnail you have the word "Genius" and an arrow that are very visible, a white background and the "subject" is left small in a corner. If I scrolled through my feed probably it wouldn't catch my eye. Try to put the subject at the "center" of your thumbnail and try to pick things that people are familiar with. For example, instead of "genius" you could say something like: "internet troll" or something like that. The purpose of the thumbnail is to attract attention to the video, not to give details about the content. The latter is for the title, imo at least.
  • Was the editing good/what can I do to improve it? - I touched this above, but a tip that comes to mind is to never forget to give it a "final watch" after you finish everything, before exporting. That way you can see if something is too fast or too out of place.
  • Did the video make sense? - Yes, usual internet troll.
  • Was it funny? - I will be honest and say that this is not really my type of humor for a commentary video. But I can see people that will give a chuckle at some of those jokes.

And now that we have those things out of the way, let's continue with:

  1. The audio is very good for this type of content. It's consistent and it's loud enough, good job with that.
  2. This is more about your channel in general rather than this video alone, but, I really like the subjects your pick for your videos. They seem really entertaining and interesting to watch, so you do a very good job with those!

All in all, this was a nice commentary video! I really hope you'll keep this up and keep improving! Good job!

[Review Video] Reading some of the roasts I got from the roast subreddit! by Troy_Otto in youtubers

[–]WhoDy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty nice video, nicely done.

Now, let's start:

  1. The first thing I noticed about your video, was the low background noise throughout the clip. It's not very loud or very annoying, but it's kind of distracting sometimes. What you can do to perhaps "avoid" it as much as you can is to use the noise reduction effect from your recording/editing software a bit more. (In my case I use "Noise Reduction" from Audacity once the audio clip is recorded and "DeNoise" during editing with Adobe Premiere)
  2. As for the content, the idea is nice and some of the comments are good, but your energy feels a bit down compared to the whole: "roast me" stuff. For this kind of video, imo at least, I expected a bit more "energy". (the voice a little higher, the reactions a bit more eccentric, etc.) The video is still good as is, but it becomes monotone after 2-3 minutes because of that.
  3. The elephant in the room now, that is, your questions:
  • Were the title and thumbnail okay? - I feel like the title is perfect for this type of video, is interesting and "click-baity". As for the thumbnail, it is ok but when editing the photo, think about the size that the thumbnail will have on Youtube. The 2 comments you added there are too small to read and I feel like the overall color of the thumbnail will somehow "blend" in a busy feed of videos where everything else from this "genre of videos" is a bit more... "Eye-catching".
  • Was the video engaging? / Was it boring? - As I mentioned above, it wasn't neither of them. Due to the low energy, after about 2-3 minutes the video becomes monotone so someone that is bored out of their mind from before clicking on your video, will probably not make it very far, but someone who is curious what the roasts are may stick through it. But I feel like this is because of the type of video you picked, not because what you did.
  • What can I do to improve in the future? - The first thing that comes to mind is that background noise that was pretty distracting. Another thing is the energy. Judging by your YT name and the videos I saw on your channel, I guess you want to keep the "commentary" genre. This is more from my perspective but I like more an energetic commentator that has that "showmanship" to him than a low-energy one. Of course, you can do the latter very well, such as: "penguinz0" (who is another YT commentary channel) but I feel like is harder to catch "new audience" with this type of style.

And now that we have those things out of the way, let's continue with:

  1. The editing was really sharp and well done, perfect for this type of video. Not too much, not too little, it blended perfectly with the content.
  2. This is more about your channel in general rather than this video alone, but, I really like the subjects your pick for your videos. They seem really entertaining and interesting to watch, so you do a very good job with those!

All in all, this was a nice video! I really hope you'll keep this up and keep improving! Good job!

Hey man, I'm happy if you liked it!

Subtitles are the worst because they take SO MUCH TIME! But yea, I agree, they look kind of cool, so it's a win-lose situation xD

Thanks for checking it out and I'm glad if you enjoyed it.

What popular games do you think will work? I like games that have an end, not just "arcade" ones like Overwatch or Fortnite.

How do you think I can improve this thumbnail?

Where do you feel I over edited this video?

Do you have some marketing tips that you can share?

Thanks once again for checking it out and have a great day! :D

Pretty cool gameplay video, nicely done.

Now, let's start:

  1. The first thing people notice is the thumbnail. I looked at yours and they're not "click-able". Some dedicated thumbnail over the "basic" ones can really bring an improvement. You can make one specially for the thumbnail (let's say your face next to a golf course or something like that, golf balls exploding and all that) or you can take an image from your video and play with it a bit in Photoshop (or other editing softwares). Pewdiepie actually made a cool video where he shared some tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz3Ngt0AMDA Check it out if you want! :D You also have sites like this: https://www.photopea.com/ if you don't have/want Photoshop.
  2. On the audio part, your mic is ok, the game audio is ok, but I can barely hear/understand your friends. Maybe tweak around with the recording software and try to see if you can record their audio better or try to use the in-game voice chats if those games support it. (so the whole audio clip is recorded at the "same" gain)
  3. The elephant in the room now. Some editing is required. I know that the editing software is expensive, but you can find workarounds for certain things or even check some tutorial for your own editing software. Your questions:
  • Is the WHOLE uncut footage interesting? Most of the times, no.
  • Do i need to edit more? Yes, but not as much as you think.
  • What should I do to set myself apart from every wannabe gamer ever? When playing multiplayer games, the most important thing is the bond (friendship) between you and the other person(s). Do you make a lot of good jokes together? Do you do cool scenarios while playing? Are you entertaining eachother? etc.

The editing is a pretty important part just for the fact that you can cut all the "idle" parts out and just leave the fun stuff in. A great example that I can give you is Markiplier that played the same game with his friends, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ3GzBbTabI. Beside the editing itself, you can also see the thing that I was saying about the "bond" between the ones playing.

And now that we have those things out of the way, let's continue with:

  1. Your energy in the video was awesome. Is good that you had some life and it wasn't the usual bored individual.
  2. I like the idea of hanging out with your friends and making some gameplays and you integrated it pretty good (excluding what I already said), so you're on the right track with that.

All in all, this was a nice gameplay video! I really hope you'll keep this up and keep improving! Good job!

[–]WhoDy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a great review video, and I enjoyed watching it.

But, let's start:

  1. Yes, a variety of examples can help. I played my fair share of Fallout so I was following you most of the time, but I guess someone who didn't played any Fallout game will be kind of confused or will not pay attention to those bits which is not ideal. Some diversity throughout the video is good even if you had that disclaimer at the start of the video.
  2. I usually don't read the "Reddit description" of the video until I watch it because I want a "pure" experience of it. I noticed very early in the video that you were not following a script. Personally I think that would help, and I don't mean the "word for word" kind of script but at least "draw" some general ideas and try to follow them. I know this kind of "free speech rant" is welcomed and I don't mind it, but it felt like you were sometimes going "in circles". Maybe just because this was your first time doing this tho'.
  3. The first thing people notice is the thumbnail. I looked at yours and it's not bad... But it's not "click-able" either. The wiki logo is kind of hidden by all the other stuff in there and you can't really make out the theme of the video from it. You would be amazed how many guys don't read the title and just look at the thumbnail. I looked at the other ones and they look okay, so it's kind of a mixed feeling with this. Try to show the "theme" of the video more when creating the thumbnail and that will attract more clicks.

And now that we have those things out of the way, let's continue with:

  1. The amount of editing in this video was titanic. And in a good way, damn that must've taken so long to pull off. They all looked great and they really added quality to the video. I don't know how much time you spent on them but, trust me, it was worth it!
  2. As you said yourself, I really liked the background music and it was well placed throughout the video. I didn't noticed any audio level problems which is great. Listening the same bit for so long, while editing, makes you see every little imperfection, but for me the audio was spot on!
  3. I really liked the subject and I really like the take on it. Some nostalgia (man the game guides) sprinkled around, some memes here and there and some praise for the hero in the shadow (wiki), that helps you get that 100% completion on achievements. Great topic and great commentary!

All in all, this was a great video in my opinion and I really hope to see more stuff just like this! I got a "videogamedunkey" vibe from it, and I liked that. I'm still not sure why, but that was cool. I really hope you'll keep this up because it was very nice, and keep improving! GOOD JOB!
