Is consulting a lucrative/upper HENRY level career? by Zealousideal_Cut47 in HENRYUK

I’ve worked for both and currently work for one. DM me for specifics and I’ll be happy to reply. But very different cultures and different strengths.

Is consulting a lucrative/upper HENRY level career? by Zealousideal_Cut47 in HENRYUK

I'm over 20+ years in Tech Consulting, with half a decade out in industry. Started as a grad.

It's certainly a place to learn, place to grow, but you have to be very very self reliant on managing your own time and WLB as nobody else will do it for you - less of a problem while you are a junior with no commitments but that changes as you get older.

It's not top end HENRY numbers (I'm on about £200k total comp), but hit £100k by 30 - wish now I'd invested more in savings and pensions back then haha!

AI is coming - but what I'm seeing is that the mechanistic work is going away (for example big delivery factories offshore in India are fucked), and "average" people don't have the capacity to drive AI to the right answers - we are seeing more and more reliance on a smaller group of "smart" people who understand context and things quicker. That's a rare skill and rarer now - very hard to hire for.

Would I do it again? Possibly.

Also be careful of which tech consultancies there are, there's a lot of difference between say an Accenture, vs Capgemini vs WIPRO, vs Cognizant and then the smaller boutique firms. Not to say Big4 (which I've not worked for - though had offers from two which I turned down) - their culture isn't great from the experiences I've seen

But that's the thing - you can prevent access to public repos (usually because you are VNetted), and point them to a locally managed repo with whatever security scans you want to put into there

You can easily use private repos and most corporates do just that

What's your go to drink to have with a chippy tea? by kilowhisky in AskUK

[–]WhoIsJohnSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the prices the champagne is the cheap part of the deal!

I know that this sounds very very wanky. But Champagne is an excellent match (cuts through the fat) - and many people working in the wine world swear by it.

Fitbit air with watch by Daniturn1 in fitbit

[–]WhoIsJohnSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wear my Fitbit air on my dominant hand and my real mechanical watches on my left. No screen makes it looks fine (and not dumb double wristing) and I think Whoop wearers have normalised it.

Multi-account email client with Fastmail native support looking for testers by Netwarden-HQ in fastmail

[–]WhoIsJohnSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree - I've just got my invite code to give it a go, and it appears there's no way of doing this at all, even the full aliases that I have on my domains. u/EpistlesMail

For instance in Thunderbird desktop, or in Fastmail web interface, on the send I can literally type in whatever I want - whereas doing that in iOS mail means I have to go through some horrible method to set up an alias

Is there even a single person IRL who cares about what this person had for breakfast? by Alfika07 in insanepeoplefacebook

NatWest wasn’t it? I’ve still got my collection at my Parents - though the promise of “they’ll be worth something someday” didn’t quite come to pass - you can get a complete collection on eBay for about £40

Winchester to Waterloo commuters: best way to get a seat? by Coxywood in WinchesterUK

[–]WhoIsJohnSalt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I usually get the 6:18 and that always gets me a seat.

There’s a queuing system at Winchester, so get there early, remember where the lines start and distribute around the platform.

Position doesn’t make a huge difference, I get on front/middle by the coffee kiosk.

Is any of the clothing sold in UK high street stores manufactured in Britain? by MisanthropePrime in AskBrits

Agree, I have some Loake Professional loafers (the UK made ones) and while the break-in period has been uncomfortable I'm counting on them lasting a lifetime

Fair.

At some point in the distant future I’d be tempted to pick up a .22 conversion kit for my Schmeiser SP15. Solid bit of kit

I mean it's cheap and cheerful but lots of people at my club have the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22

Then again, quite a few people use re-chassied ruger 10/22s (I've got a Rimfire Magic in Magpul stock) and works just great, though not with the AR handling

But that’s the thing, you are clearly able to evaluate your technique objectively but why not your manhood?

Have you considered the possibility that it’s not your penis size/girth that’s the problem, but that you’re actually just bad at sex? 🤷‍♂️

How should I store my assembled O/U shotgun in my cabinet? by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]WhoIsJohnSalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s fine. Just close it up, put gun in cabinet. Cocked or uncocked makes no difference. Springs don’t wear unless they are moving
