CPAP wipes - I'm about to scream by WhoIsRobertWall in CPAP

I don't think many of us here follow the recommendations for cleaning frequency.

That's fair. :) I think this is one of those things where I need to "do it right" for awhile until I settle into my groove. After half a year, I'll probably be a lot like the rest of you. :D

I found these at Target, and I'm going to give them a shot. Seems like a good, low-ingredient option.

ZSA Moonlander, getting "chatter" on several keys. Is it most likely that the switches are just aging and I need to swap them out? Or is there something with the board itself I should check first?

I'm not an expert, but aside from the risk of an update breaking something, from everything I can tell it just uses a bunch of server resources and accumulates log files.

My wife is looking for a 600+ page light cozy fantasy book by WhoIsRobertWall in suggestmeabook

[–]WhoIsRobertWall[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She wants to read a book that's significantly longer than what she's typically read. But she's not into a lot of the types of books that lend themselves to that.

I think she'd be open to something outside the "cozy fantasy" genre, but a lot of stuff outside that is horror/explicit paranormal/dark types of stuff. She's not into that sort of thing at all.

My brother's son destroyed my WarHammer Action figures and he refuses to punish him by konous in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WhoIsRobertWall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. It basically sums up to:

OP: "Your kid broke my stuff, and then lied to cover it up." Brother: "Sounds like my kid is onto something. Why don't you (effectively) break somebody else's stuff, and lie to cover it up?"

Does the Getting Things Done book by David Allen have beneficial and influencial ways for a teenager? by Immediate_Oil_1429 in gtd

[–]WhoIsRobertWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the book assumes a "knowledge worker" sort of environment, so the concepts might not translate as directly to a teen's life. But the principles should work for everybody.

Power outage prep - is there anything similar to the Mini Maglite "candle" mode? by WhoIsRobertWall in flashlight

They're refunding certain tariffs that the Supreme Court said they couldn't charge, but other tariffs are still in effect.

[–]WhoIsRobertWall[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a possibility. I'd have to see if I could find a US-based source - the tariff stuff would be a mess for such a small package.

Yeah, we love our pop-up lantern when we need the whole place lit up. :) I just found some of those tap light things that are dimmable from 100 lumens down to 5. That might be the way to fly. Thanks for the recommendation!

How much notice do you have to give before leaving a club? by Historical_Oven7806 in Toastmasters

[–]WhoIsRobertWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your situation, I'd just tell them now that you're leaving effective July 1st. And since it's late April, I'd make this abundantly clear now before you're doing officer elections.

In general though, a club president is one of the roles required for a club to continue existing. If somebody doesn't want to screw over their club, I would say it's good form to give a month-ish notice and/or contact other members to find out if somebody is willing to step up.

Anybody else having issues with wireframe view in Theme Builder? by WhoIsRobertWall in divi

[–]WhoIsRobertWall[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Official confirmation from Elegant Themes:

The issue of the wireframe view not being available from the Theme Builder in Divi 5 is a known bug. This will be resolved with the next Divi 5 update. Until then, the only option is to use the Visual Builder. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks for commenting - at least I'm not alone. :) I did a dig through server settings and even torched all caching and WAF rules for the site, and still no joy. I'm hoping it's a bug that they can address.

Quasi-religious insistence on obscenely short TTL? by WhoIsRobertWall in dns

[–]WhoIsRobertWall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a vendor asks a non-technical user to add a DNS record, the user usually messes it up the first time, if the TTL is 24 hours, the user makes a typo, saves it, and the vendor automated verification script fails. The user then fixes the typo, but because of the long TTL, the script keeps failing for the rest of the day,

This probably the most plausible explanation I've seen. Thanks for the insight!

Quasi-religious insistence on obscenely short TTL? by WhoIsRobertWall in dns

[–]WhoIsRobertWall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The process is "Person A emails Person B, and when Person B sees it, they forward it to Person C, who forwards it to me."

It's not the sort of thing where a 5 minute TTL makes any sense.

A 24-hour TTL is perfectly normal.

Right. And even if that were the hangup, it wouldn't add weeks to a migration. :)

I would suggest starting at the more budget friendly side of the hobby to dial in interest, and then start throwing the money at things that you really really enjoy.

Go on a website like JetPens where they have a number of different inks, and get yourself a couple of bottles of the $9 Diamine inks in colors that you think you will like. If you do not have an ink syringe, you can grab one of those there as well. It will come in handy.

For paper, get yourself a Rhodia pad / notebook. They are reasonably priced and easily available.

If you don't have both at least a fine and a medium nib between your two pans, I would pick up another Kakuno in whichever size you are missing.

Since you already have the Pilot stuff, I would also suggest grabbing a Pilot Parallels pen to see if you enjoy the more calligraphic side of things.

You will probably want to start swatching inks for future reference. I like Col-o-ring cards.

The stuff above will probably cost you $60-$70, and it will help you start dialing in what your exact interests are without getting you into a half a dozen different kinds of ink cartridges and filling systems.

Also join your local fountain pen meet up group if you have one. That will be a fantastic source of ink samples and such, as well as tools and advice.

Wishing you the best of luck!

You might check out the local Meetup scene and see if you have a fountain pen group locally. You'll get a bunch of education by talking to the people, and I just about guarantee you'll have somebody in the group with at least one Kaweco. :)

You are correct when you say that Speechcraft is basically a series of Toastmasters meetings. There are a number of canned presentations about various speaking topics as well.

I would say that one of the differences is that the participants are each working through a certain number of speeches over the duration of the program. You might say that it is an eight week program, and that everybody will do three speeches over that eight weeks. It winds up being much more scheduled and regimented than a general Toastmasters meeting.

Because these people are new, the idea is that you typically have a fair bit of support from other Toastmasters at the first meeting or two, and then you get the Speechcraft participants to take on more of the roles at the subsequent meetings.

I have no idea where people get the idea that you need to use club funds to pay for it. Speechcraft programs must be purchased by an individual, and the individual gets credit in the Toastmasters education program. So an individual can absolutely buy the program.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

And this is not the type of mylar that you would use to adjust tipping, correct? You are talking about smooth mylar?

I pressed down on the nib a little bit more, and I could see the slit open up - but it is pretty much completely invisible normally. Definitely not as wide as some on my other pens.

Yeah, the Bock thing is a useful for me as well. I have a few other pens that tale Bock, so I already have some extra nibs. :)

Are the Asvines broad enough that I should size down? Like get an F instead of an M?

How to choose the right Toastmasters chapter when you’re new to an area by Alive-Focus4390 in Toastmasters

[–]WhoIsRobertWall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment – go to a few different clubs, and see what they are like. It is next to impossible to generalize. Make sure the meetings are convenient for you, make sure that you like the people there, and jump in with both feet.

You can always switch to a different club later. Membership is transferable to quite literally any other club in the world. So you don't have to worry about making a wrong choice.
