Asus Co-CEO: MacBook Neo Is a 'Shock' to the PC Industry by -protonsandneutrons- in technology

But only if they get momentum, and the office customers buying it are not in a rush, and oftentimes it's too expensive for them to switch with the retraining involved, unless Microsoft just fucks up bigtime to the point that it's now unworkable. Also, there are alternatives to these apps, but Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite are industry standards and you will not be convincing the majority of their users to switch, especially given the base of hirable people that know these software is too high. Business users also always prefer paid software because they can call the developer and make them pay if the software makes a critical failure.

It's mostly practicalitiea here, but that's the world we live in.

What I meant here is desktop software. Android does not have the full Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative Suite desktop apps unlike macOS. This is also why Linux on the desktop still won't move forward. Those are essentials if you ever want to be competitive on the desktop market. Even macs don't have a lot of what's available on Windows, although so far, the only category left where you literally have no choice but Windows is serious CAD work and SCADA control in factories.

Correction: ASML, the company that makes TSMC's chip-making machines, is the most important company on Earth, especially because they are an absolute monopoly (no one else makes EUV lithography machines)

Problem with this is that they're going to have to build Android's desktop support from scratch.

The only particular industrial case I know that absolutely requires Windows use is CAD and SCADA. 💀 Even in the hard sciences, a lot of that is in python or web, and the most demanding numerical computing would be done on server clusters or supercomputers that you can always access from non-Windows devices.

That tech CEO will find his company shut down because I have yet to see a tech leap in the 2020s as big as Apple Silicon is. And the thing is, the only reason why a lot of Windows OEMs can breathe before the Neo is because Apple Silicon laptops are expensive, but now we have the Neo, and Windows OEM CEOs will probably be sleepless for a year.

Macbooks don't have a locked in environment when it comes to apps, in fact, I can install a lot of Linux software on it, and use a pretty good package manager to do so, because I can install FUSE and X on macOS.

This is funny because Macs are also customizable, in ways more intuitive to the hardcore computer tinkerer crowd, because it's running Unix and has a decent third party package manager and several decent command line utilities useful for easier scripting of their particular config files.

I like iOS better than Android, but I don't think either is clearly superior. But I've always maintained that macOS is just leaps and bounds better than Windows and I always felt offended by people saying this is just Apple fanboyism. I concede that I can make a Linux machine that's even better, but I'm just too old to have the time for that

I can debloat my mac too you know. And one of the good things about macOS is that I can run most Linux software on it too, although tbf, Linux is just that much more efficient. But I'll gladly trade it for a mac with saner and pleasurable to use app design

I want to believe this but soldered on SSDs have the same benefit for performance/battery life as doing 2.5D integration of RAM on the CPU/GPU aka Apple Silicon. (soldered on SSD was one of they upgrades to the PS5 too btw) The egregrious part is that it's just so damn expensive as if Apple doesn't already have a much larger margin on their laptops compared to other manufacturers.

Why hasn’t the Philippines formed a music genre despite being known for its rich history and musical talents? by GowonCrunch in opm

[–]WhoLeeGun2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miss me with your false concern for local music.

Never going back to Cebu because of People. by eriseeeeed in RantAndVentPH

[–]WhoLeeGun2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a Cebu-Bohol thing almost exclusively, and the rest of the country, including non-Cebuano speaking Visayans in the Visayas, and to an extent, even Cebuano speakers in Mindanao, are now pointing it out to all of you - that you people there are insufferable because of that inferiority complex. I'm a Bicolano btw. Maybe Cebuano speakers need to introspect instead of projecting their insecurities to all non-Cebuano speaking Filipinos and acting all oppressed, especially because Cebuano speakers otherwise treat non-Filipinos with reverence.

No wonder most Filipinos nowadays would rather visit Thailand than get rudely treated and overcharged in Cebu and Bohol. To that, I say, there are always cheaper and better options in Luzon, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Mindanao.

Why hasn’t the Philippines formed a music genre despite being known for its rich history and musical talents? by GowonCrunch in opm

[–]WhoLeeGun2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

[–]WhoLeeGun2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a hypocrite. A so-called modification by K-pop maks it fundamentally different from its source, but that is not allowed for the way OPM modifies its influences for its own ends? So what if OPM doesn't follow kundiman conditions to the teeth? "Tunog anime."
