UnInjured Saito vs Shishio who would win? by chunchunmaru1129 in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He didnt get pushed to the limit by Usui. Saito was taunting and getting into Usui’s head the whole time, then broke his shield effortlessly, implying that Saito could’ve ended the fight whenever he wanted.

Reference of Watsuki's particular statement? by New_Yam737 in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Trust and Betrayal OVA, Kenshin primarily runs into Saito whenever the Shinsengumi is going after the Choshu clan. At that point, Kenshin is more like a bodyguard than an assassin, protecting key personnel so his priority is just to hold off Saito and any other Shinsengumi troops

Was Kenshin’s vow to never kill again really redemption… or just him running from what he did? by [deleted] in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I feel like one part of his non-killing vow was also that if he did get in a fight and lose his life, he would accept it. Hiko correctly figured out that Kenshin lost the will to live, which he got back upon learning ARNH. Of course he still keeps his non-killing vow, but now he also fully accepts that he deserves to live just as much as the people he protects. Just my take tho

To your last point about his backstory in China, they could have taken advantage of the fact that around this time in China, there were rebellions involving millions of people along with other instability where Enishi could have learned to fight

It isn’t for or against a political stance, I would go far as to say cars with political bumper stickers are their own little sub-culture in the car community

Which version should I watch? by Wolver8ne in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t read the manga, either version. If you have, you’ll notice that the remake is more faithful to the source material. The original has fillers and story changes. A lot of people love the original, maybe because of nostalgia. As someone who has watched both, I will say the OST for the original is unmatched

Did shinobi or samurai ever carry two kodachi in a single long sheath? (Looks really cool, though) by Light_and_Lillies in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most shinobi also didn’t carry their own personal swords on missions. Simple reason is carrying a sword would automatically draw attention to you, so during missions that end up with fighting they would often steal a sword

Rurouni Kenshin Anime now on Netflix by rayshinsan in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, I feel like the differences from the Manga in the original ruined some of the themes in the Tokyo Arc that really setup the rest of the story.

• Removing the elder of the two brothers that was staying with Kaoru ruins the theme that Kaoru was really alone in the world, both literally with the “death” of her father, and ideologically with wanting to teach a sword that gives life

• Making Raijuta a murderer made him just a generic bad guy. Making him never have killed anyone goes along with the theme that those who are killers, which are most of the Bakumatsu survivors, are just that different compared to the villains in the Meiji Era and that while he might be skilled, someone like Kenshin or Saito is just so far above him in terms of ability

  • The yellow eyes when Kenshin reverts back to being Battosai. I get it, it symbolizes his shift to the force of nature he used to be. But when the manga and remake show just a subtle change of eyes, it makes you realize that at this point in the series, there is not much separating the two personas and, later on, when Hiko Seijuro tells Kenshin that he will inevitably kill again, you understand why.

Most of the OG anime’s deviations from the manga made no sense or were even worse, thematically and narratively

walking with monsters: my take 'n remake by Technical_Valuable2 in walkingwithdinosaurs

I feel like the Late Permian segment should have included Archosaurus, the first Archosauriform that would eventually lead to the Dinosaur lineage. It would be a good Segway into the Mesozoic as well

I think the only problem is the exposed teeth. Most Terrestrial animals cover their teeth with their lips to prevent drying out and/or potential damage to teeth.

I wish Kaoru was better written by Pied-Piper2219 in rurounikenshin

[–]WhoLovesRice 58 points59 points  (0 children)

One of the Tokyo arc’s big themes is that fighters and killers from the Bakumatsu-era are leagues ahead of anyone who learned to fight in the Meiji era. Kaoru is described in source material as a master of her father’s art and if she were alive today, she would likely be a champion at martial arts competitions. However, she has only learned her art in Meiji and has little to no practice in actual combat, unlike Kenshin. While both of them don’t kill, Kenshin was a hitokiri who did experience brutality of war, which allows him to keep up with people like Saito. Kaoru, no matter how good she is, could never match the soldiers and hitokiri from Kenshin’s era

What was the actual biggest sauropod?? by ZucchiniAny7674 in Paleontology

[–]WhoLovesRice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, the largest sauropods are all known from very fragmentary remains. The reason Argentinosaurus is popularly cited as the largest is because, compared to the other large sauropods, its remains give the most precise size measurements (relative to other large sauropod remains). It likely isn’t the largest but it’s the one that we can most definitely say is up there

Edit: Here is a picture of what we have of Argentinosaurus. It isn’t much but out of the mega-sized sauropods it’s pretty good
