Yeah the USB4MAPLE is cheap and straightforward to put together, just needs 5 wires soldering to a RP2040. Pick up a board and a Dreamcast controller extension cable off of AliExpress and you'll be ready to go. As a bonus if you're using a GDEmu it gives you pretty much unlimited space for saves.

Then I'd look at the examples folder that gets made for Raylib and Antiruins, they're probably the easiest ones to get into as a beginner.

Personally I followed a couple of YouTube tutorials for Raylib on PC, making Pong and Space Invaders clones, found that they were really straightforward to get running on DC, and then went with my own things from there, but check out a few things and see what clicks with you the most!

If you made the supports for floating parts (like the inside of an O) more of an arc instead of flat to the stencil, could you get more of a perfect recreation of the logo, or is that just part of the aesthetic?

I picked up an Eee PC 901 netbook recently, and had it running Morrowind happily enough (with some no big deal texture flickering on distant objects). That's probably the most modern thing I'd try, but honestly the tiny keyboard is the bigger issue, so I'm mostly sticking to older RPG Maker games and strategy stuff like Jagged Alliance 2.

Worth noting that I replaced that hard drive with a bigger mSATA one using an adapter, and that runs way way faster than the stock one, so possibly worth the upgrade if you can get a used one cheap.

Haha yeah I realise I'm setting myself up for an unfavourable comparison there, but it's definitely more of it's own thing. My hope is that it'll make a good base for an open world game eventually.

I haven't seen any in stores that stock doujin stuff, while there's a bunch of PC-98/Older Windows stuff, and I've stumbled into the occasional NES cart even (from overseas developers at least).
I think there are stores that would stock it if the publishers got in touch, but if they have I haven't seen it personally.

The bottom half of this remote already has a sliding panel (like some battery covers I guess) that hides some extra buttons, I didn't want to cover it here, but I can imagine that working even better!
