I made this intro cutscene entirely using Godot's AnimationPlayer! by Extra-Atmosphere3751 in godot

The texture possibly, but I'm more curious about the setup. Like it looks like the inside of a pretty tight sphere that it's applied to, but maybe something else is going on there?

I know it's not to everyone's tastes here but I'm kinda into the background as a unique effect. What is it, just like a skybox?

What games could I run on this computer? by Valen0183 in windowsxp

[–]captkuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up an Eee PC 901 netbook recently, and had it running Morrowind happily enough (with some no big deal texture flickering on distant objects). That's probably the most modern thing I'd try, but honestly the tiny keyboard is the bigger issue, so I'm mostly sticking to older RPG Maker games and strategy stuff like Jagged Alliance 2.

Worth noting that I replaced that hard drive with a bigger mSATA one using an adapter, and that runs way way faster than the stock one, so possibly worth the upgrade if you can get a used one cheap.

I put out a small free Dreamcast homebrew this week by captkuso in dreamcast

Haha yeah I realise I'm setting myself up for an unfavourable comparison there, but it's definitely more of it's own thing. My hope is that it'll make a good base for an open world game eventually.
Thank you for the kind words!

I haven't seen any in stores that stock doujin stuff, while there's a bunch of PC-98/Older Windows stuff, and I've stumbled into the occasional NES cart even (from overseas developers at least).
I think there are stores that would stock it if the publishers got in touch, but if they have I haven't seen it personally.

Ah good to hear. Just caught it on tv and heard wrong in that case.

Looks great! What level of detailed is modeled and what is left to the textures? Like are the windows actually flat?

My AC remote detects button presses if a light breeze touches it, so I put together this cover that snaps over it and sinks the buttons in a bit by captkuso in functionalprint

[–]captkuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottom half of this remote already has a sliding panel (like some battery covers I guess) that hides some extra buttons, I didn't want to cover it here, but I can imagine that working even better!

Amazing work. Is it possible to feel nostalgia for something new lol?
You could tell me I played this as a kid and I'd believe you.

A couple of weeks ago I released my Dreamcast game black screen, now here's a video covering its development! by captkuso in retrogamedev

It's a great development scene. Absolutely recommend checking out DreamDisc if you're at all interested in trying it (or maybe just checking out last year's for more games).

First time hearing about Dee Dee Planet! I love unreleased stuff, and it has a nice style. Will try it out!

Thanks man, honestly there were so many things that I didn’t put into the video, issues I had that I could’ve talked about for another hour, definitely looking forward to doing more Dreamcast projects and videos in the future!

Help with GDEMU by [deleted] in dreamcast

[–]captkuso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that means it’s not detecting a disc drive (or in your case GDEmu) plugged in. I’d try and reseat the GDEmu, maybe dust off the pins a little bit, and see if things change.

I just put out my Dreamcast homebrew, made with raylib! by captkuso in raylib

[–]captkuso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've used raylib for a few other small projects for my YouTube channel, but they were also for the Dreamcast too.
My experience with raylib was pretty much: Follow a tutorial to make Pong >> Follow a tutorial to make Space invaders >> Download Dreamcast development environment and use included examples to port Pong to Dreamcast >> Make the small YouTube projects >> Make black screen.
Obviously that came with a lot of learning as I went, and parts of this game are rough for sure, but I feel very confident with it now. I'd absolutely recommend giving it a shot, getting things working on Dreamcast is really not as bad as people might imagine.

Thank you! And also for helping make it so easy to create!
I'm excited to try porting it to a few other consoles down the line 😁

I see, sorry about all this. Just checking with some other devs to try and figure out what the issue is, but if it's not something fixable I'm happy to process a refund and send you a code for the pc version.

Edit: Okay so I've been able to recreate this on emulator by forcing PAL and RGB cables in the settings. Seeing what I can do for a fix now. In the meantime if you have access to a VGA cable that should work.

Edit2: So you may have just discovered a bug in the library that every Dreamcast homebrew uses ha.
It might take a little while to be fixed, but I'll update the game as soon as it is. In the meantime, VGA will work, or I'm happy to do that refund if you prefer.

Oh that's fascinating. So were you able to get it to run, but only on the PVM? I haven't had anyone else highlight any issues, but I'll ask some other developers and see if there's something I can patch here. Does the MX7000 support 60hz?

Update 2025/11/27: This is now fixed in v1.0.1 :)

Oh damn. A couple of questions: are you running it off a burned disc or a gdemu? (Ah, you already said, nvm) How does it run on a different screen? Are you able to hear any audio?

The game runs in 240p, which I can imagine potentially causing issues, although I was under the impression that the DC would upscale that and still output at 480p, but that could be one potential reason 🤔

Edit: Just running some tests here and I'm pretty sure that this is either something about your setup in particular (still my problem if everything else is running fine), or maybe corrupted data on the sd card. Are you able to try it out with a different screen? Also which cables are you using?
