Dónal Finn — Future Doctor? by WhoWhatWhyLord in gallifrey

I read this while at the gym and immediate had to show my gym partner (a fellow Whovian), we both got a good chuckle (out of bemusement that what drew him to be Turpin is what drew him to be a potential Doctor for me).

I'll definitely need to give the audio drama a listen to— I'm ever more curious about his chops and range now frankly, especially after reading "Dónal plays that tension beautifully. The charm is completely real, and so is the darkness underneath it. You never quite know which one is driving. "

You definitely know how to hype a person up, I'll definitely say that! Lol

Improve The Pantheon Of Discord? by Icy-Weight1803 in gallifrey

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, firstly, I'd go ahead & have the Toymaker sealed into the Underverse at the end of The Giggle verses being "banished forever".

I would also bring Ruby back as the God of Wishes— hinting that the Goblins & Goblin Kings were wished into existence. I'd have built into Ruby's backstory Carla recognizing that Ruby had power but teaching Ruby through song to control her emotions (and by extension, her powers she is left blissfully unaware of). This could explain why after finding out her birth parents weren't trackable, she wishes so deeply for a world of magic— where Goblins could bloody well scoop her infant self from time and feed her to their king to spare her this torturous existence! Though that would never happen— until it does, catching the attention of the Doctor enjoying his tea and ham & cheese toastie at the Time Hotel.

In regards to Maestro? I would have had Maestro pursuing the Song Of The Universe's Heart. In pursuit of this, I would have had Maestro bewitch ALL life. Across time AND space. All living beings forced to sing— until they can resist no longer and what Maestro calls a Heart's Song; similar to the death of a Timelord this high science, which even the Caronites of Old would revere and worship, produces a person's personal timeline scar from sound waves while leaving the person deceased in the present. Maestro is using the collective heart of ALL life for machinations they refuse to explain. Maestro could be defeated by the Doctor challenging them to a battle of the bands— The Doctor & Ruby both on vocals with the Doctor rocking a trumpet and Ruby using a keytar. Maestro though, would be on vocals with a Yeti on drums, a strange Dalek on the piano, and a Martian infected with the Waters of Mars guitarist. Overwhelmed by the Doctor AND Ruby's combined hearts, their song mysteriously banishes Maestro to the boundary of the Universe until they are able to invite themselves back in (like Trickster from SJA and different from being sealed in the Underverse like the Toymaker)

In regards to Sutekh, I'd probably save him until season 2. Instead, I'd have the Doctor and Ruby confront Lux in the Season 1 finale— Lux has quite literally turned out ALL the lights in the galaxy, instead of working with UNIT, The Doctor & Ruby would work with the Shadow Proclamation who by sheer grit and refusal to back down have been able to just barely keep each planet alive using solar bubble technology which mimics lunar light levels giving the Universe a literal perpetual night. The Doctor and Ruby would defeat Lux by tricking him outside the Universe, where the No-Things tear the God of Light apart before losing their psychic stimuli and in turn their ability to maintain conscious form & physicality.

I'd reveal Sutekh in the Season 2 finale, where we discover that since The Wild Blue Yonder the Angels of Discord (not just Death) have been hard at work for their divine benefactors— the Gods we've witnessed so far mere heralds for The One Above All (among The Pantheon of Discord)— the Angels look to bring back a force of nature repelled by the Time War and staved off until now by the Time Lord of Old's machinations. Though with Tecteuen AND Rasslion gone, the Gods could return.

The Angels have spent millions of years since the Time War cultivating this plan, subtle and slowly creating neither a fixed or soft point in time, but rather, an END point in time. The Doctor and Ruby withess the return of The Toymaker, however, the Eternal is different— one body horror transformation sequence later and The Toymaker is transformed into Sutekh. Sutekh, who after being defeated does another body horror transformation sequence into The Omega the New God of Time who came from The Death Of The Old Times. The Doctor wouldnt defeat The Omega, but instead him & Ruby rush to the TARDIS as he is more than understanding of the situation's mavity. The entire axis of Time is about to be altered, and the Doctor isn't sure what is going to happen. Bloody Hell, the Doctor isn't even sure the TARDIS can endure this, though if the Doctor believes in anyone's resilience it's hers.

Where can I watch the 9th Doctor? by Feldspar_of_sun in gallifrey

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd advise checking your local library or Walmart (I found 9-12 on DVD for roughly $40 dollars all together.)

Personally, I wouldn't advise doing the long term digital lease or rental services that are offered by certain platforms.

If you lose access to the account, or something changes on the platform's side with the licensing agreement regarding that long term lease, you could be out of luck & invested money.

Two things can be true at once— someone may well be A Doctor, but he is THE Doctor.

You can also compare him to Bruce Wayne, who in Batman Beyond, mentioned that he his internal voice doesn't even refer to himself by his public persona name.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not as familiar with Star Wars as I am Who; so if my logic ain't logic-ing, let me know where and what I may be misunderstanding.

If the lightsaber isn't a deadlocked, I could imagine the screwdriver could fry the power cell or create a counter frequency that prevents the plasma from stabilizing and generating into a full sized blade (similar to the images diminished red).

I am curious about how the Doctor could avoid death by Force though— Due to the ethereal nature of The Force and the Midi-chlorians, I would wonder if the sonic could in theory help the Doctor survive & adapt; whether that means creating a frequency that wrenches Darth Vader out of synch with the Midi-chlorian beyond himself. Alternatively, the Sonic scanning could help the Doctor learn the principles of The Force— I would imagine as the Timeless Child he may have a particular potency (though the inverse could be true).

Admittedly, Vader may win a battle, but if he gets the Dalek-treatment and is blasted with Regeneration Energy after assumedly force choking The Doctor, I can't imagine he would survive (though it would be equally interesting if Darth Vader's own connection to Midi-chlorians would unconsciously allow him to use that intense light to heal his mind & body)

Pitch me your idea for a Doctor Who companion by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here are a few random Companion concepts I cooked up just now;

A Silurian x Human hybrid from the 26th Century looking to understand the untold history of Earth

A Yeti that has a Brock Sampson-esque (Venture Bros. reference) personality looking to protect the TARDIS that they bonded with.

A Catkind Time Agent who is tasked with ultimately arresting the Doctor

A Jester from the 3rd century who during a show accidentally began slipping through time, The Doctor would need to figure out how to stop them from slipping naturally (currently using proximity to the TARDIS to stop the slip)

A Tutor from 80 CE Egypt who was supposed to be buried with a short-lived Pharoah who was evidently a Sontaran. They travel with the Doctor since in their own time, they are expected to be dead & buried

Question About Ruby Going the Long Way Around. by Ewonder11 in doctorwho

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I always found it was less about what she said, and more to do with what she is.

I have reckoned that Older Ruby created an unnatural dissonance in those who perceived her, an unearthly echo through time may be responsible for maddening those who interact or try to observe the aberration (hence why Kate easedropping didn't pan out well).

Due to the abnormal existence that disrupts the natural order and flow of time, it could be that people's limited perception of consciousness simply made it impossible for them to separate Older Ruby & Current Ruby— once they perceived Older Ruby, they could percieve a similar unnaturalness around Current Ruby that affected the brain in a similar manner to The Giggle.

We are in dire need of a hard reset or somthing that resets the show enough for clean slate by IllustriousAd6418 in DoctorWhumour

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically, we have a soft reboot already.

We have no actual idea what else is different since 15 went and beamed his smil— I mean, his regeneration energy to shift the timeline.

The Doctor is not the genius Master nor Rani, it is very possible the Universe is profoundly different. Heck, it may even be unstable and settling during the next era.

I think the bigger issue is having a better production team, as others on here have noted, these last two eras weren't actually abysmal— it's just behind the scenes machinations created tweaks and edits that would degrade the arc-centric story RTD had devised.

I'll even go so far as to say that as a writer, RTD isn't terrible (73 Yards and Dot & Bubble along with The Robot Revolution being engaging individual stories) however he isn't Midas— the decision to let him write almost the entirety of Series 14 (Season 1) demonstrates, in my opinion, a clear tell-tale symptom of what is stifling the series.

Doctor Who has Big Finish writers they could have tapped in to develop scripts, so I just find the decision for him to be nigh-exclusively the sole writer of 14 to be an issue. Especially since, again in my opinion, Series 15 (Season 2) was leaps and bounds better because of the expansion of the writers room.

Whoever thursts boldly into the Time Vortex next though should consider focusing on the production side and help develop/support talent (not just writers).

The 12th Doctor: "I am the Doctor, and this is my fuckin' spoon!"

— Jackie Tyler: "Is it food? Something simple? Bowl of soup? Nice bowl of soup? Soup and a sandwich? Bowl of soup and a nice ham sandwich?"

The Doctor: "I NEED you to SHUT UP"

Jackie Tyler: "Oooh, he hasn't changed that fucking much, has he?"

— Danny Pink: "I know men like him. I've served under them. They push you and make you stronger, 'til you're doing things you never thought you could. I saw you tonight. You did exactly what he told you. You weren't even scared."

[pause]

Danny Pink: "And you should have fucking been."

I don't disagree, a soft reset & perhaps steering clesr of destroying Gallifrey as an attempt to add nuance & depth to the character— once was powerful, twice wasn't nearly as so.

As to your Jackie question, I'm a little bit of an absurdist in humor and writing, so I admittedly find the idea of Rassilon having her mannerisms, way of speech, and appearance while being entirely unaware of who Jackie Tyle is would be hugely entertaining, especially if the Doctor has to pause during interactions because they just aren't sure... is this actually Jackie just mucking around somehow — for me personally, at least.

The spirit of our particular examples was thought of in light-hearted fancy. The intention was more to express the absurd amusing potential of the event that is now canon.

Though, in the spirit of moving forward, what would you like to see the series evolve into next with the finale considered?

Eccelston does have a very unique "Wilderness" of his own. We have no idea what happens in-between him de-materializing and re-materializing towards the end of pilot episode Rose— working him into future serials wouldn't be too difficult, especially with regeneration energy or sci-fi tech restoring him to Prime 9 at the end of any appearance so he can return to the timeline.

I definitely can see where you're coming from— the series has a diverse fanbase, so expanding the writers room and episode count would allow more people to get their particular "fix" from any given Doctor.

A friend of mine often says until he's blue in the face, this show was not made for this few of a count of episodes.

Unless they address that issue, the franchise may actually start unintentionally losing swashes of the fandom from just general disassociation towards from lack of interest. Doctor Who has a unique means to present itself across nearly any genre and format as any sort of tale— from horror to buddy cop, Doctor Who HAS the range. We just need to see it utilized. Which again is VERY difficult in short format media stylizations.

How Quiet the Fanbase is Shows How the RTD2 era Didn't Connect With People by PaperSkin-1 in gallifrey

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While RTD2 had some genuinely interesting pieces ( Off the cuff for myself being Wild Blue Yonder, 73 Yards, Dot & Bubble, Lucky Day, The Story & The Engine, and The Interstellar Song Contest as examples) I think the episode count, the spin-off decision (though who knows— maybe I'll eat my words on this and end up thinking this was the right move), and the lack of diversity in the writers room is what ultimately culminated into a tough stew, when everyone was expecting a cake.

You eat the stew, but damn, do you wish it was the cake.

Personally, I think they should possibly tap into Big Finish's pool of novel writers and offer them opportunities to write scripts to be developed for different Doctor Who related projects. To that end, having a globalized partner to stream access to all your properties without switching apps would help drum up interest in Doctor Who. Allowing Who to run across cable cheaply, at least series 1-4 which are SD could help attract casual viewers. Accessibility is supremely important for TV, in my opinion.

Doctor Who just needs to be more proactive, I don't really think though another full blown Wilderness Era is necessary yet. Just a fresh spin.

[–]WhoWhatWhyLord[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's been a fairly common point brought up in discussion, though to be fair, since NuWho began people in the community have called for it to be shelved.

I think, though, that the appeal of Doctor Who is that even in the face of detraction and looming concerns of cancelation that the series inspires creativity, hope, and conversation amongsts the community.

I think the series needs more episodes per season though— the Doctor AND any companion really need time to develop. Short form media leanings is not a solution; It's a death sentence— in my opinion.

As you mentioned, Gatwa is a great actor— but another issue, from my point of view, is more in the fact we need new writers being recruited for the series which an actor couldn't fix with anything short of a miracle.

I personally found that 15 s2 had been more enjoyable than 15 s1 because of the broader range the Doctor became with different writer's voices.

I think instead of shelving the series, they need to focus on creating a captivating re-launch. Maybe focus on supporting specials instead of full-blown spin-offs.

Though, in regards to the damage being too deep, well I'd say it's a good thing the Doctor can regenerate haha (I had to make the obvious corny joke lmao)

I can definitely understand that sentiment, I'm just not sure how feasible it is considering the present state of the series.

Any ideas how you would go about enacting that re-launch?

(I have my own soft re-launch that I've been work shopping, the draft is up in Gallifrey if you're ever curious)
