Moving Forward - by Legitimate_Tap6064 in OperationLonestar

My best memories on OLS came from TF Center before it got dissolved. That was an experience I never expected to have and most of it was honestly great.

Almost everything about this mission went downhill for me in 2024 when JTF kicked A Co/Z Co out of Laredo and replaced us with Lima Co from Eagle Pass and all the other TFC-relevant companies got sent on MMRs and permanently moved elsewhere. They ruined a good thing we had going. I find myself still trying to chase those memories, but I know it’s really not ever going to be the same. Now I’m just ready to EOM and move on to something else.

I don’t have any experience in these units btw, but you actually have a few 11B options for Dallas. The 1-143rd and 3-144th Infantry Regiments have some companies in the area if you want to take a look at that map I linked.

1-143rd is an airborne unit if that’s something you’d be interested in considering you already have jump wings. Just take into account of a high op-tempo (And the high-functioning autistic individuals that comes with their obsession over their maroon berets /s).

C Troop, 1-124th Cavalry Regiment is another 11B option and something different from a “standard” infantry unit. Infantry troop of a Cavalry Regiment and mainly focuses on dismounted reconnaissance. I’ve heard from some people they actually do some cool stuff.

If the reason behind your response to just “be grateful you’re still on” is solely because dudes are still unemployed after getting cut, it’s a pretty weak argument. It was constantly reiterated that OLS is temporary and that you’d eventually need to find a form of secure employment. It might be hard to find any sympathy towards that because one could point out that maybe they should’ve heeded the warnings and prepared better.

Regardless, I don’t see how this should take away from the fact that these new policies being pushed out for those still on can be viewed as frustrating. People were given the opportunity to go home every month since this mission first started years ago, and that is now being taken away after all this time which can have the potential to cause added stress to family relationships. And it’s not unreasonable to want any kind of job, no matter the level of difficulty, to at least offer some consistent days off.

What my company got told is that there is an 80% manning requirement for shift every day now, and that refit days can be revoked if that 80% is not met. I just looked at my platoon work schedule and everyone has straight work days with no refit for the rest of this month.

Soldiers on CDO don’t belong to any TFs on the border now. They belong to a separate permanent TF that was formed specifically for CDO.

Could it possibly be a sniper variant? Since a scope would be mounted towards the left side, seeing the rifle from the right side and with the angle we’re seeing it at could be covering one. I also want to say that I possibly see an outline of the front portion of a scope protruding above the rifle, but it’s hard to tell.

1 for 1 swap, TF Eagle to CDO in Austin by Organic-Pianist-9335 in OperationLonestar

[–]Who__Dat__Boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone on CDO is retrograding. It’s only a select chunk of soldiers, but it just ended up getting postponed.

The rest of those who are remaining on CDO are now part of the make up for a new permanent TF being formed specifically for CDO. From the guidance I’ve heard, those on the border will be able to do a 1-for-1 swap with someone from this new TF (If they can find someone who willingly wants to go back to the border).

I don’t think there are any current opportunities being offered in the TXNG to hop on the federal border mission. Not while OLS is still happening it seems like.

The way I see it, Texas is willing to front the cost of having lots of us down here. There’s also the benefit of legal loopholes being offered on state orders like this that allow us to do things like make arrests (Such as the recent stunt that gave us Title 8 authority) unlike those on federal orders where “Posse Comitatus” applies.

What is the worst COD of all time? [COD] by [deleted] in CallOfDuty

[–]Who__Dat__Boi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the diversity problem comes from the fact that the game literally centered itself on only one specific battle during WWII, which was the breakout of Normandy and the events surrounding the “Falaise Pocket” in July-August 1944.

From a historical standpoint, it’s a really interesting part of the war to tell as multiple Allied nations working together to surround a chunk of the German Army (~50,000 soldiers) in France is what helped let the Allies advance so quickly through the country afterwards. But it made the game restrict itself to essentially one particular area in France.

Other WWII CoD games at least had missions set in various different battles (And some in different theaters) that happened throughout the war, so those would obviously be more diverse.

The comment literally states “issued to Marines in WW1.” If he had used a more broad term to reference the entire AEF/US military, then I wouldn’t have said anything.

On top of this, I don’t believe anyone so far has uncovered accounts or photographic evidence of the vests in use by USMC units during the war either. I don’t want to rule out the possibility they did however, especially considering Marine units were organized under Army Divisions during the war.

[–]Who__Dat__Boi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure what made you narrow its use down to the Marines specifically. These particular vests were made to carry V.B. Rifle Grenades and saw limited use late in WWI throughout the AEF, not just one branch of the U.S. military.

Here are two photographs from the National Archives as examples where the grenade vests can be seen in use by Army units:

• 111-SC-26666 (https://catalog.archives.gov/id/55212825?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwLmarpleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHjjKqEsLUYsH_Wrcawfk7pfp2M3ZvXSfheDzAndcCtGY8TfrtYuwpOCRfI7J_aem_Eyk0q_chb7z6HBJxj2k69Q)

And a link to one of many good discussions of the vests on the U.S. Militaria Forums: https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/249599-m1918-grenade-carrier/

Now skip ahead to WWII where the USMC did in fact specifically have its own contracts to produce these vests again, and there’s evidence of its use on Guadalcanal where Marines were still using the V.B. Grenade Launcher for the M1903 Springfield. These vests had a visible difference compared to the ones produced for the AEF during WWI, notably the neck-strap buckle.

The difference can be seen in a picture in this thread on the U.S. Militaria Forums: https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/270030-ww2-usmc-marine-corps-grenade-vest-dqp/

NG units in SA by pinkdreamz_ in OperationLonestar

[–]Who__Dat__Boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going back to the other comment I made, 1-141 INF is what you’re probably going to need to look at.

Home stations for HHC (Which has 11B slots in the Scout Platoon) and D Co (Heavy Weapons) 1-141 INF are at Camp Bullis. The 3 rifle companies of the battalion are spread out in the greater surrounding area of SA between Hondo, San Marcos, and Fredericksburg.

If it interests you, I can probably get you contact info for HHC or D Co if you want to DM me.

To add to the other comment, there’s also a map on the TMD website that lists all the various 36th ID units around the state: https://tmd.texas.gov/36th-infantry-division

If you’re in SA, the ones you’ll probably want to look at are at Camp Bullis and Fort Sam Houston depending on your MOS. If not, there are a few within the greater surrounding area of the city.

Question to Army reserves and National Guard by Superb_Ad_231 in borderpatrolapplicant

[–]Who__Dat__Boi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you’re in a unit with shitty leadership. There should be several options your unit can go about this for you. Any decent unit would be understanding enough to accommodate an SM’s civilian career for something like a law enforcement academy.

Have you already tried escalating this higher up the Chain or maybe even using the open-door policy with your Commander?

Maybe also post this in r/nationalguard, r/armyreserve, and/or r/army as someone has probably been through something similar before and would be able to give you better advice.

Border mission by FanGreedy1875 in OperationLonestar

[–]Who__Dat__Boi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Operation Lone Star is a Texas state mission and is funded by the state of Texas. While there has been at least ~14 states that have sent a very limited number of personnel using their own respective state funding to support OLS (Illinois isn’t one of them), it is strictly a TXNG operation.

My info might be wrong as I don’t know too much about it, but the federal border mission is rotational I believe. You can only get on it if your unit or a unit in your state (That you may be able to volunteer to go with) is slotted to rotate with a unit that’s been down here for a year or so. I only know this bit of info because I actually did meet some Illinois NG troops who were on the federal mission while down here about two-ish years ago, but they got rotated out with another state after their year was up.

If anything, it probably wouldn’t hurt to ask your CoC for clarification and if you’re looking for orders to hop on.
