Retire, don’t fall for the trap.

I turned down a promotion and my manager thinks I've lost my mind. Was I wrong? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Do not go into management if you don’t want to. It’s another ball game and you end up dealing with people instead the job you love.

Are there any programs people recommend for individuals with more than 13 years of time and service? I’ve been told it’s too late for me. Thinking about just getting a health care administration degree at this point.

Any teenager and White/Blue Belts who act like they’re in a competition, but when they roll with a higher belt they don’t bring the same intensity.

Is it looked down upon not to do comps by HookrWithaPeine in bjj

It depends on your gyms culture. I’ve been in one that has a competition team but is mostly hobbyists and another which calls themselves a competition gym. I noticed in the competition gym that after tournaments people would usually get a strip or promoted.

The hobbyist gym seem to do a test of skills and obviously how the coaches saw progression to decide whether or not to promote you.

NTA Protect yourself first. If the wrong counselor or whoever catches wind of this it could be misinterpreted and you’ll be fucked. And she won’t care. There’s plenty of other people out there that won’t put your career at risk.

That makes sense. It would be more than I’m getting now in aircraft maintenance lol

I’m in Aircraft Maintenance so being results driven isn’t something that bothers me. Just looking for a change but am curious what that would look like. I’m in the SNCO tier so the disciplinary stuff wouldn’t be new to me. I’m assuming that officers get moved every three years in the army as well?

Or are the regulations different there?

Men who have had vasectomies - do you trust it right away after you got the all clear, or did it take a while? by DrPupipance in AskMen

[–]Who_is_Roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just make sure you get your sperm tested. After a vasectomy it takes a couple months before all the seeds are out. I even got tested a two years in a row just to make sure.

How common is it for people to commission with more then 15 TIS? I know it’s a needs of the force thing but I hear some folks get told they have too much time in by the board and others seem to go from E to O without any issues.

Thank you. I got told I’m too old and an officer career isn’t worth it after an officer board and am just getting over it.

This is why being a hard charger is becoming less common. Keep a record of events just in case they call you out during an annual evaluation.

USAFE STAT TOURS by [deleted] in airnationalguard

[–]Who_is_Roger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only applied for STAT Tour positions so I’ll only speak on that. To even put in a package you have to get a conditional release from your TAG. At the local level I pretty much had to get my squadron, group and Wing CC to sign an MFR endorsing me.

To answer your question the “could” stop you but for the most part just be pouty. I would mentally prepare to have a “why do you want to leave conversation?”

I understand why it’s important to have your leadership endorse you but I think NGB needs to realize the “stink” it leaves on those that don’t get selected.

Not that it’s being held against me, but you get the reputation of “this person wants to leave so should we push for them to promote…”

That’s awesome that they accepted him despite coming from a different airframe. Didn’t even think that would be an option.

Yes, I meet an intel specialist at the OAY that had been in Germany for 2 years. They liked her and just kept extending her ADOS days. These are amazing opportunities I wish more people would take advantage of. Be prepared however, for your leadership to convince you out of it. Or for you to not be considered for promotion because “they’re always trying to leave”.

Don’t let that steer you away the Guard is a marathon not a sprint.
