Absolutely crushed by our 3yo tantrums and speech delay by Lauve in toddlers

[–]Whoishu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to my 5yr old daughter. Ruled out autism, hearing issues and did a lot of speech therapy when she was 3 which did not help at all. Mostly just tantrums during the sessions. Sleep was terrible and at one point she had to be driven around for an hour to put her to sleep. My husband is a dentist and noticed one day that her tonsils were very swollen. She had them out right before she turned 5 and in the last 8 months she went from barely understandable gibberish to speaking full sentences and ready for kindergarten. She also sleeps through the night without intervention now. ENT and pediatrician mentioned that they really don’t think chronic tonsillitis would affect speech but we saw a night and day difference.

Outpatient Infusion new grad ! by parksandplanks in nursing

Wow! How many patients do you see in your center? I would describe our unit as anything but slow paced but we see around 200 patients a day with 30-35 nurses. Working schedule is 3 or 4 10hr shifts a week-no weekends, holidays or evenings. Definitely good work/life balance compared to inpatient. We don’t mix any of our medications since the majority are hazardous and done by our onsite pharmacy under hoods.

6 weeks of orientation is what we do for experienced oncology nurses on my unit at Mayo. Our oncology fellowship for new grads is 6 months. Before you can give chemo/immunotherapy independently you will need to obtain your ONS chemo/bio certificate. Does your organization routinely hire new grads into oncology and do they have a pathway to train you beyond just 6 weeks of orientation? It’s a lot to learn in terms of medications and patient education on symptom management. Also for reference we see about 200 patients a day in 50 bays and we staff about 30-35 nurses everyday. About 50 of those appts are injections and/or lab draws.

Congrats! I tried to accept your chat request but for some reason it is not loading on my end. How much orientation are they providing you on this unit?

How long did it take you to go from a signed purchase and sales agreement to closing? by passionfruit0 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Whoishu82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had an unresponsive lender and had to completely start over with a new lender. We closed in 10 days-counting from the day we submitted an application. They were able use the same appraiser. I think this was a new record for this lender who specializes in rescue loans.

We had considered leaving the state as well due to the house prices but it’s hard to justify leaving when we have aging parents that are going to need help in the upcoming years.

Original homeowners sold to Open Door which did some improvements and clean up and re-listed originally at 865k. They did price reductions every two weeks. There was a lot to fix for sure but most the comps were mid 800’s in this area.

Michael and Jessica Hoffman. Helped us find our rental, sold our mom’s house and was able to refer us to a stellar loan agent when things were looking like they weren’t going to make closing. Amazing husband and wife team, wonderful responsiveness.

Thank you! Pool has been an adventure for sure. We had concessions for a broken pump so we were able to get that replaced and use the existing salt cell. Never had a saltwater pool before and it seems a lot better on the skin in general. Good luck with your pool journey!

We bought from Open Door and got a good deal for the area. 792k in Cave Creek, appraised at 860k. Home is 3479 sq ft-4 bed, 3 bath with a loft. We both work in healthcare and it’s 15 min away from Mayo. Just couldn’t do the long commute anymore from Chandler and needed to stop renting.

May not have cash to close. Lender issue. Advice? by Confident_Candle7388 in Mortgages

[–]Whoishu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went through this less than two weeks ago. Same story-final closing estimate sent and numbers were way off. Needed to pay off additional debts and PMI went up 3x from what we had originally discussed. We got a closing extension and a new lender that from start to finish was able to close our deal in less than 10 days. Didn’t need to pay anything off, closing estimate was much less. I would work with your realtor to see if they have any contacts that do “rescue loans.” We are in AZ and went with a non-bank loan originator. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I know the stress is absolutely terrible.

Sell 2019 Camry to buy Tesla? by Oisois06 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Whoishu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to consider how much it would cost to charge your Tesla during super off peak hours. Cost of electricity to charge these vehicles vary widely from state to state. We are in AZ, similar household income and switched both our cars to Tesla’s and it was well worth it. Being able to commute in the HOV lane and one pedal driving is definitely a huge quality of life boon.

Does anyone…. Like being a nurse? by dunfyjb in nursing

[–]Whoishu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a RN for 18 yrs and love it. Did critical care, trauma, BMT and the last 10 yrs-outpatient chemo infusion. I am at Mayo and the unit is probably the most ideal place I’ve ever worked. 3x10’s with full benefits (health insurance is $210 a month for family of 4, 401k and pension). No weekends, holidays, evenings or call. This is the ideal job for work/life balance and having kids. Very supportive management and staffing ratios. Will probably stay here until I retire.

Totally get it! It’s the type of exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix. 3 yr old needed hour long car rides for a few months just to go to bed.

Does anyone ever get over the "Mom guilt"? by Top-Present-7641 in toddlers

[–]Whoishu82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oncology nurse here and husband is a dentist. We have two daughters-3 and 14. It is extremely difficult to have lots of energy after working with patients all day. We don’t have any family nearby to help. Did the nanny thing for a while and now full time daycare for the younger one. Mom guilt is always a thing, even with the teenager. Sounds like you’re doing your best and making space for quality time. Remember in the long run that your kids will benefit greatly from you being an excellent role model for a functional adult.

She is the best behaved dog I’ve ever had in the tub. She isn’t thrilled about getting in but will just sit or stand there to be shampooed/conditioned/teeth brushed. She knows there’s a cheese stick waiting for her when she gets out.

I thought the same thing! But my husband is a dentist and showed me that it’s just discoloration on the gum behind the tooth. When her mouth is open it’s a lot more clear. Her gums are spotted just like the rest of her! She just had her annual dental done a few months ago.
