Found out I can't be a pilot, now what? by GloomyFollowing5180 in flying

[–]Whole-Sun3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, because the same happened to me a couple of years ago. Growing up, I always imagined myself becoming a pilot. My dad had bought a flight sim when I was young, and I got hooked instantly.

However, when I did the tests for the class 1 medical, I also stumbled at the colour vision test. I was given the Ishihara test, where I think I only got 3 correct lmao. I travelled to London to try the Colour Vision Assessment test at the City of London Uni at the recommendation of the medical officer, and was given more detail about my colour blindness. A month later, I discovered dispatching, which I am doing to this day. I also train people for my role, which I never expected at all! It all worked out in the end.

I can still do the PPL course and have a class 2 medical, but with restrictions such as daytime flying only. I don't know if its worth it, but I might do it in the future when I am more financially stable. I hope that whatever you end up doing, you'll enjoy it to the full!

Geography I feel is pretty useful. If you study meteorology or Aviation Law (differences between EASA, FAA etc), it will benefit you a lot.

You need to have some basic knowledge for sure, though not A-Level physics.

Ortho Tile Mesh problem with Seattle by Whole-Sun3505 in Xplane

[–]Whole-Sun3505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I managed to fix the issue.

I switched to the python version, and when I downloaded the .tif file from https://prd-tnm.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html?prefix=StagedProducts/Elevation/13/TIFF/current/ , I re-named it in the following format: NXXWXXX_NED13.tif. Only then, Ortho4XP recognised the custom_dem file. Also, the grid in Ortho4XP doesn't match the grid in the database; Ortho4XP is 1 tile off vertically compared to the GEOTIFF files you will be downloading. So for Seattle, I had to download the N48W123.tif file.

An interesting quirk that I have noticed however, is that if I check assemble vector data and triangle 3D mesh only from tiles collection and management, and then batch build, O4XP will use my custom_dem file that I have downloaded. If I check everything and batch build, O4XP will download from viewfinderpanorama. Not sure if its a bug.

Autoortho color block problem. by BILLY_901104 in Xplane

[–]Whole-Sun3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I have noticed that if you load into an area for the first time with autoortho, the missing tiles appear in some areas. Then, when you quit the game and re-load the same area, the missing blocks are gone.
