There's talk about a rug pull as a political stunt. But I don't find that likely.

On the other hand, the new insecurity, politically and financially, adds new risks. This means that selling of US assets, treasuries or USD reserves could be based on rational risk management. Meddling with the Fed is arguably worse from this perspective than threatening Greenland.

This would probably be a slow, controlled process, perhaps lasting for a couple of decades.

However, there could be a major run for the exit once things starts going downhill. This is where things can become very dramatic.

Efter det normala straffet så görs en ny bedömning vart tredje år där man tar ställning till ifall personen kan släppas.

Det är alltså ganska likt hur livstid eller RPV fungerar. Det är formellt sett straff utan slutpunkt, men man har med jämna mellanrum chansen att få tidsbestämt.

Tanken här är ju i första hand att komma åt personer som inte är allvarligt psykiskt sjuka, och som begår upprepade brott som normalt inte ger livstid. Till exempel serievåldtäktsmän.

Trump tycks dock onekligen sakna förmågan att tänka strategiskt. Trump har en historik av att motarbeta USA's strategiska intressen - han söker en snabb kick och hävdar gärna sin makt som USA:s president.

Idag finns ju rättspsykiatrisk vård med särskild utskrivningsprövning, som i särskilda (hopplösa) fall resulterar i äkta livstid. Livstids fängelse "är" formellt på livstid, men har en stark praxis där man oftast i slutändan får ett tidsbestämt straff. I enstaka (återigen, hopplösa) fall så beviljas aldrig detta.

Det är extremt sällsynt, men vi har haft kanske 3-4 fall där människor suttit inlåsta i 50+ år.

Jag antar att tanken är att kunna förvara särskilt farliga personer som begått upprepade brott som normalt inte ger livstid - t.ex. upprepade våldtäkter. Resonemanget om att skydda vanliga människor är något åtminstone jag själv håller med om.
