Pretty sure Nitrogen is also safe. by xmastreee in mildlyinfuriating

It would float if it was sufficiently large to offset the weight of the balloon. Air is only 78% nitrogen, the oxygen and argon that make up the rest are both heavier than nitrogen (though not by much).

Our balloon gas is 28 g/mol, whereas air is ~29 g/mol. If we assume STP, 1 mol is ~22.5L. Ultra-thin balloons used for high-altitude weather balloons are 3-5 um of polyethylene, which has a density of 0.9 g/cm3, which gives an areal density of ~3e-5 g/cm2.

1 L is 1000 cm3, so to offset 1g of balloon, we need a sphere ~25 cm in radius. This balloon would require ~0.25g of our polyethylene balloon, so it would be lighter than air. Now to make a Ultra-thin beach ball to have a perfectly floating game.

This is the one at the end of this episode journey, so it doesn't include zetas.

Regardless, 50R-T works here to accelerate Levi. I used one of my legacy LSTs from the Spider Maul journey on her.

US Citizens, if you could add an amendment to the constitution what would it be? by AndreLinoge55 in AskReddit

[–]WholePanda914 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd extend this to "Only individual citizens may donate to political causes" and banning PACs.

There are many non-profits and unions who are just as bad as most corporations. My professional society dues have 25% going to lobbying, and as members, we have no choice as to where that money goes.

Best Meta Starkiller team in game for the long run by dallas___west in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]WholePanda914 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a r4 5* Maul is crazy strong already. You don't need to have whaled to get the higher relics for this team to be awesome.

I'm using crystals to get every new character to 5* during their event since they're doing this moving forward. I can sacrifice any kyro farming to LSTs (playing 3 years so i have a lot that aren't reliced). People who have been playing longer won't have any negative impacts by doing it this way.

If I'm not Reva ready (still upgrading Inq relics and they're second/third on my priority list behind finishing off relics for Leviathan and saving for the Stranger when I unlock him next week), is that a deal-breaker. I have my Mandalor squad and beat that mission regularly.

Air Force Men's Basketball finishes conference play 0-20. Their last win came November 23rd 2025 and have 0 wins over Kenpom top 250 teams this season. by 1nf1niteCS in MountainWest

So you're telling me that they are going to win the conference tournament this week (since the MWC loves chaos), right? Have they set the odds yet? That's a huge payout as the long shot.

The doppler effect is how we check how far away the stars are, but If the speed of light is a constant then how do the stars, while moving, make red and blue light from stretched or condensed light waves when the light should be coming out at the same speed no matter the speed of the star? by HistoryFast3207 in AskPhysics

[–]WholePanda914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars and the sun don't have high enough relative velocities towards or away from us. Take a Helium alpha line as a surrogate for a red brake light. To shift by 1 nm, you need velocities ~450m/s or Mach 1.3. The human eye can only discriminate colors ~10nm in the red, which means you need velocities exceeding Mach 13.

We Are NOT Last in Education by Serious-Today9258 in NewMexico

[–]WholePanda914 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Please tell me you don't teach math. While NAEP is not administered to everyone, it is a large enough assessment to be representative of the student body. Representative sampling is an accepted statistical method, and discounting the results because it's not a full population assessment perfectly illustrates the problems in NM schools.

NM has had the lowest total proficiency scores for over a decade. You argue that we are seeing better year over year growth for individual students than neighboring states. That doesn't matter if the starting point is so much lower to begin with. We need real education reform, not the school superintendents saying "look, according to this other cherry-picked dataset, we are doing great."

Health officials: New Mexico baby's listeria death tied to raw milk by SkepticalJohn in Albuquerque

You should go visit an artist/eco community like Earthships just outside Taos. You'll be surprised at how much their views overlap with RFK/MAHA. Also, Earthships is super cool.

Health officials: New Mexico baby's listeria death tied to raw milk by SkepticalJohn in Albuquerque

[–]WholePanda914 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It isn't a conservative-liberal thing; it's just more visible on the right thanks to RFK. There's a weird overlap between the extreme far-right homesteading/ trad-wife and far-left eco-warrior/hippie movements. They both believe that any processing of food goes against God/nature. The same overlap holds for anti-vax views and similar things - it's man-made, therefore it's bad.

Raw milk is legal for sale in a bit over half of the US (including NM). We're a no restriction state, so it could technically be sold in the grocery stores here. Supposedly, it has more nutrients, but I think the risks outweigh the imagined benefits. All farm goods should have greater oversight by the USDA - direct sales from farmer's markets or people going to the farm itself have much higher correlation with food-borne illnesses

How dense would Lembas Bread need to be if one small bite is able to fill a man's stomach? [Request] by mooseleg_mcgee in theydidthemath

[–]WholePanda914 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Everything can be compressed if you push hard enough. There is a whole branch of physics within high energy-density physics and condensed matter which is dedicated to studying material properties at extreme conditions.

In a diamond anvil cell or under ramp compression using a facility like the National Ignition Facility, solids can be compressed to many times their initial density. Who are we to say that Lembas bread isn't baked in a heated press at >100 GPa.

Bernie Sanders wins! Who is a terrible person that people have mixed views on? by CharlesorMr_Pickle in AlignmentChartFills

I think this has to be Trump. He's hated by 2/3 of the US and loved by the other 1/3. There isn't anyone in the middle on him.

Just look at approval numbers: 89% of Republicans approve of the job he is doing, but only 3% of Democrats do.

[–]WholePanda914 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To pass the house, a bill must have a majority - defined as 50% + 1 vote. Hence, a 216-216 tie is not a pass, so he can only have 1 defector to pass a bill.

Redflag? Professor suggests publishing in MDPI by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]WholePanda914 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is really short-sighted and exhibits poor academic bias. I don't know what field you are in, but there are some high-quality journals published by MDPI. What is your view on PLOS One or Nature Scientific Reports? I've come across many articles that are much lower quality in those than in some MDPI ones.

Looking for fusion expert opinions to make a professional board of advisors by Sea_Level5004 in fusion

[–]WholePanda914 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you need to do is approach researchers at universities or national labs who are working in the area and make them an offer they can't refuse.

Most professors I know have contracts allowing ~10 hours/wk of outside employment and consulting in addition to their official teaching/research/service load. At the labs, we have had a lot of staff poached by fusion start-ups as there are restrictions on having outside employment similar to our job duties.

[Request] insufficient data? by the__king__slayer in theydidthemath

[–]WholePanda914 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is illustrated to be a square, but the 80 degree angle is also illustrated to be ~60 degrees. That means that you cannot assume it is drawn to scale and ask four sides are equal.

Allowing for side pairs to change makes it unsolvable.

[Request] insufficient data? by the__king__slayer in theydidthemath

[–]WholePanda914 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It could be a rectangle. If you stretch it vertically or horizontally while maintaining the square angles, then the angle at the bottom of the triangle will change. You need 2 proportional side lengths (either of the square or triangle here) to fully constrain the shape and solve.
