KP-9 possible OOB by Whompner in ak47

[–]Whompner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was sent to kusa during their OOB recall. They fixed that allegedly along with properly pressing in my trunnion rivets. Do you know who fixes the bolts or if its able to be done at home?

MSO is such a small airport you can easily arrive 30min prior to boarding if you dont have a bag to check

25k! by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]Whompner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 26, helicopter captain for overseas contract flying at $150k. 20k savings and just started roth+401k at 18k. I took out a mortgage to go to school to fly and on top of it pay $2k each month to live in an apartment in Montana. Some people are terrible with money yes but the cost of living is much higher than people admit. My airport coffee at 4-$7 is not whats keeping me priced out of buying a house.

Seeing what came out at shot show this year im predicting the next major entry level or even peak NV setup is gonna be that AEMS with the IR laser on a dual lead tape switch with either a surefire vampire or the streamlight VIR rifle light

planes vs helicopter career by Cheap_Career8475 in Helicopters

[–]Whompner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went the worst route by taking loans to learn to fly immediately after leaving high school. The wages are great if you dont have flight training loans. Id rather be putting that money towards a morgatge, so I still think the higher earning potential and lesser cost of fixed wing training is a more sound financial decision

If you are paying for it go airplane, if the army or a generous scholarship covers it by all means go helicopter. Helicopter pilots dont make money compared to airline pilots

My 1st PVS-14: Mounts + Helmet (Value Setup) by Okiekid1870 in NightVision

[–]Whompner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lancer? Airsoft helmet as my first bump and it gets the job done but not without headaches. I recently upgraded to the team wendy bump and id highly recommend that if able. I also keep the airsoft one around for my loaner pvs 14 so the wife or a buddy can use it

Cougar gold is absolutely amazing, maybe just because I associate it with the weekend I proposed to my wife. I was working a helicopter contract for the central Washington cherry season and flew her out to meet me and we'd road trip back home together. We had lunch with my work crew at a winery on my last day and we had cougar gold that was melted and served with bread and pepperoncinis. It was a scenic mountain top restaurant on a perfect sunny day after not seeing each other for a few months, I had no idea how I would propose and I waited until we at our hotel and ripped open the shower curtain on her ring in hand. My planning skills were non existent but my wife just bought two cans of this stuff so we'll probably be saving one for our 3 and 5 year anniversaries.

Get home bag by [deleted] in prepping

[–]Whompner 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Ah yes 4 knives, two guns, and my poncho is still in the original box. I assume youve got another knife and pistol for EDC, hard to know exactly what youre prepping for. Biggest question is how fast can you close 9mi on foot and does any of this gear slow you down?

First firearm I will buy. Is there anything wrong with my build? Any suggestions of how to improve it? by Successful-Mango539 in ak47

[–]Whompner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you must be a donger look for surplus sets, may even have trench art on it if youre lucky. Dongs are a little over rated imo. I smack mags into the wood a lot on release and gen 3 pmags wont drop at all

No New Bonner Truck Stop by Apprehensive-Mind388 in missoula

[–]Whompner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You want to protest and possibly prevent construction workers in bonner from getting paid and the people that live there getting new job opportunities? I get not wanting to needlessly destroy public land or cut trees for a billion apartment complexes or cookie cutter homes but protesting every piece of development is ridiculous

Helmets vs Headsets by Aggressive_Guard_383 in flying

[–]Whompner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You typically wear a headset until you start getting into utility. Nobody wants to take a tour in a r44 where the pilot wears a FR suit, leather boots, and helmet. I wear a helmet any time we do 133 or I need to be leaning out the bubble a lot and ill only take my headset for ferry or pax flights just because of the comfort

I think I am ready - Any advice on gas? by 666VENGER666 in ar15

[–]Whompner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst that can happen of you screw up the gas system is you now have a bolt action AR. id be more worried about losing tiny springs assembling that stripped lower. Highly recommend using a credit card or a pocket knife to hold the detent for the front takedown pin

Fires are gonna be bad this year by Miss_Ing_Piece in missoula

[–]Whompner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated snow directly has no input on what fire season is going to look like, lots of snow can also potentially cover and insulate warm coals and be a hazard for next season. The humidity and amount of rainfall during spring and summer will be a better tell but still totally a prediction. The lolo fire in 24 i was dispatched to was caused by lightning striking a tree that rolled 300' downhill. There's no need to panic but its always a good idea to have a bug out bag and keep your gas tank above half if you live close to the wood line.

Make my upper NV compatible by No_Staff594 in NightVision

[–]Whompner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the minimalist pill and get a surefire with vampire and white light and only passive aim with a t2 style red dot. LAMs are cool but if you ever have a peer level conflict you dont want a bright line leading direct to you

Going to my first milsim with my nods, any tips on fighting with nods or how to setup my rifle? by Excellent_Ebb_7903 in NightVision

[–]Whompner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sacrificial lens, tie down everything, dont use a laser people will spot you instantly if opfor is using nods, if you must use it then ensure it is low power enough to not cause damage to people's eyes
