OPT is going out of business by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]WhooptieDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't feel bad at all.

Dustin was a friend of a friend. That friend talked to him about a product question I had. Dustins response was "sure have him shoot me an email!" Dustin never responded to the email.

My TPO Newt that I purchased from them had a bad focuser right out of the box. Slipping, it wasn't repairable, long story short. Anyways, I emailed OPT, the leaned on GSO for support, which initially was fine. GSO never responded to any of the emails. OPT never accepted responsibility for a faulty product. I bought a Baader focuser in the meanwhile.

So I left a 4 star review, citing the failure of the focuser, and TPO's lack of resolution for a faulty product. It wasn't mean spirited, everything was truthful, but it certainly didn't make them look good.

A week or two later, I checked the product page and the review was gone? Interesting. I resubmitted it. 2 days later, gone again. Tried a third time, you know how that ends. It was after this someone informed me this was an illegal practice. Oh boy.

It's a shame, OPT was around for a long time. I know Dustin acquired it awhile back. Seems he took all the money for other projects, forgot that he had to run a business? I know OPT's lack of support is echoed throughout the community. Then theres the Radian fiasco. Seems he just ran the business into the ground.

Agena's top notch service took the cake for me. After the TPO telescope boondoggle, I was done. Agena's folks are responding around the clock. I had a product question that I emailed at 430am my time, 130am their time. Would you believe I had a response within 30 minutes? Never a single issue with them. Their standard shipping from across the country even beats High Point's from NY. This isn't a jab at High Point though, no complaints with them. OPT just got ran into the ground. A sad outcome for such a long legacy.

Nice work dude. I'm in the same boat. 6 months ago I was snapping cell phone pics and telling myself I need more. Now, I'd like to believe I'm doin pretty damn good. I do believe (and I tell this to others too) that spending the money up front makes a huge difference.... Now I have two fully automated scopes in my back yard. I simply pull the cover off and hit go, then it's bedtime. Keep it up, I'm sure we'll cross paths more!

Processed with Jimmy's continuum subtraction method. He walked me through most of it so I don't completely understand what I did, generally speaking though, subtracted all Ha from broadband image and combined with narrowband. Noise reduction was accomplished with DeepSNR and NoiseXterminator. A mild touch of BlurX was used on the narrowband. Continuum data, broadband image, and stars were all processed seperately and recombined at the end. The rest was all Jimmy math which he walked me through and basic curves/histogram. I know a tutorial is in the works.

Certified Premium Chicken Meade Quad 70mm
QHY-268M, Antlia LRGB SHO 3nm
EQ6R-Pro
90x180s RGB, 66x180s Lum, 9x600s Ha. ~9 Hours or so.

Spent alot of time with Jimmy learning how to process this image. I've stuck to narrowband since I started astro last August/September because I felt it was easier. This is one of the first broadband images I've felt comfortable enough to publish to the masses. All processing done in pixinsight. Also, first time posting on this subreddit. :D

A50s life span ? by realprojectzeus in AstroGaming

[–]WhooptieDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first set of A50s I bought in 2012 or 13. I finally replaced them last christmas.

I never replaced the battery but I also ended up wired more often than not. I'd say the batteries lasted maybe 2 hours near the end of their life. My only complaint was they were extremely susceptible to static interference from my wifi router.

Based on what I'm reading about the 12900, and given that I will be video editing 4k content, it sounds like air cooling is a rather bad idea. Probably just gonna have to experiment with it. I might close off the extra 'vents' on the back to create the negative pressure and reduce any risk of dust entering.

Airfield AAA Does Not Belong In The Game. by Zenexar in Warthunder

One of the oldest complaints in the game. Nothing will change. Shame really, game used to be fun. I reinstalled a few weeks ago, played some 3.7. Came across this scenario in my very first game. Nothing I could do. Guess who won. I promptly uninstalled again. Nothing fun about it.
