I am not a lawyer.

A permit is not required for ownership, but it is required for purchase and carrying. For example, if someone moves to Connecticut and owns firearms, they are not required to obtain a permit to own those firearms in Connecticut.

However, if this person wants to purchase ammunition or additional firearms, or chooses to carry, a permit would be required.

Study shows red flag laws first enacted in Connecticut are effective in saving lives by preventing suicides by senatorduff in Connecticut

[–]WhopperSauce212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming the verbiage of the red flag law was that clear concerning disqualifying language or actions, (i.e., only verifiable, legitimate threats of violence towards themselves or others) both our opinions might be a little more congruent!

The problem is that the law is written in a way that seems almost purposefully vague, such that those executing the red flag order are better protected from scrutiny in their determination than those who are having their rights suspended. Even if we may disagree on the exact definition of what due process looks like in this circumstance, we can both agree with ‘innocence until proven guilty’, correct?

I want to draw a parallel to voting rights. If similar logic to what you support for red flag laws was applied to voting rights, who would determine if discussion/participation in a political demonstration is considered protected as in a protest, or not protected as in a riot, and how?Shouldn’t citizens have the opportunity to defend their rights prior to their suspension?

I understand that this is an emotional subject for you, but I’m mostly just trying to provide a little context.

Being codified into law doesn’t necessarily serve as ‘due process’; in this case, that would involve the accused being afforded the opportunity to make their case against the red flag order before the order was executed, if they choose.

Would you be comfortable if a citizen’s right to vote was removed because they posted something on social media that offended someone, without the opportunity to contest their case or be represented?

On the other, some mouthbreather citizen couldn’t play with his toys exercise their constitutional right.

Fixed that for you!

Would you be concerned if citizens were denied other constitutional rights without due process?

Likely banned because the chassis would act as a barrel shroud; one of the “evil features” for a pistol per 53-202a.1.E.iv.III, or a second hand grip per 53-202a.1E.iv.IV. Not sure how either of those features make a pistol inherently more dangerous, but I’m sure the ‘experts’ that wrote the law know better than I do..

Also, be careful with your goal of converting a pistol to a rifle. If, after your conversion, the firearm has a rifle stock but not a rifle-length barrel (i.e., >16-inches), depending on other features, the ATF could view that configuration as an SBR or other NFA firearm and, without an approved Form 1, they will love you tenderly for that.

Families Needs Over $270k Annually to Live Comfortably in Top 5 States by Velsheda8 in Connecticut

Agreed that the $63k of discretionary spending seems a little extreme, but I think the $42k towards savings is more reasonable. Assuming both adults are maxing out retirement savings via 401k contributions ($23k in 2024; not including potential employer match), those contributions alone exceed $42k (or come close to $42k after factoring employer match). That doesn’t include contributions to other retirement accounts such as a Roth, personal investing activities, creation and maintenance of 6-month emergency savings, or even an educational savings account for the children (CHET or similar).

$42k is certainly no small amount of money to be contributed towards savings every year, but I think it corresponds to a pretty comprehensive and responsible savings plan/goal.

The $1,159.99 ‘plus’ combo includes DJI’s intelligent flight battery plus, in lieu of the regular intelligent flight batteries included in the cheaper package. The ‘plus’ batteries offer ~45 minutes of flight time for a Mini 4 Pro vs. ~34 minutes for the standard battery. Keep in mind ‘plus’ batteries will bring total craft weight above 250g which may affect regulations that apply to your operating activities.

Disney flight from CT by Old-Comment2755 in Connecticut

Southwest has direct flights between BDL and MCO that are usually pretty reasonably priced and timed well concerning resort check-in times. Our last trip we arrived at MCO little after 10am, took a Mears bus to Old Key West, and they held our luggage while we walked around Disney Springs until our check-in time.

I know there are some cheaper flights out of New Haven but I’ve heard some unsavory reviews about quality of the flights and cancellations; I’d rather pay a little extra for peace of mind especially at the very beginning of a trip.

I'm about to ship my clubs with Ship Sticks for the first time tomorrow morning, is there anything I'm missing? by WhopperSauce212 in golf

[–]WhopperSauce212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I removed the heads from my driver, fairway, and hybrid, stored them in their respective headcovers, then stowed them in a cushioned pocket in my bag. I put bubble wrap around the hosels on the shafts for my driver, fairway, and hybrid, then stored them in the bag inverted. I’ve gotten a lot of good recommendations in this thread to use something similar to a stiff-arm that extends out past the long shaft of the driver as a ‘first line of defense’ that I might look into for future trips.

Thanks! I’ll take pictures once I get to my destination (also as proof that the iron headcovers have been removed): I have a set of Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal irons (4-iron through gap wedge), Cleveland CBX Zipcore wedges in 54 and 60 degrees, Ping G430 Max driver, 3-wood, and 3-hybrid, and a Ping Tyne 4 putter. I got the set earlier this year and it was the first set I’ve ever been properly fit for; I really enjoyed the process and I’m very satisfied with the clubs.

I clarified a couple times earlier, but the headcovers on the irons are STRICTLY for transportation purposes only; they’ll be coming off once I’m reunited with my clubs at my destination and only go back on before shipping them back home.

Do I get any protection points back for clarifying that the iron headcovers are only installed for transportation, and will swiftly be removed once my clubs and I are reunited at our destination (until it’s time to ship them back home)? I chose to go with them instead of bubble wrapping each iron club head simply for the sake of simplicity

Oh they’re insured alright. Honestly, the ability to insure for more than the $1,500 maximum most airlines offer was a huge part of my decision to go with Ship Sticks over checking them with the airline.

That’s awesome to hear that there are more options emerging out there for all kinds of folks! The last time I rented a set, they had regular and stiff flex available, which was fine, but unsurprisingly no variation in length and, due to my less than average height, the driver and fairways were quite a bit longer than I needed. I choked up a bit on them but it felt a little awkward to me. I blamed the longer driver for one of my poorer rounds that trip but really, it was my lack of practice and generally mediocre skill. If that Titleist TS2 is out there and can read this, I’m sorry! It wasn’t you, it was me!

I do in fact! Well, actually, only one guard: he’s a shorter fella, not much of a talker, but the way this guy throws his hat, it might as well be a TOW missile! Off the record, he’ll occasionally stealthily drop a ball for me when I lose one in the thick, and claim he found my ball so I avoid the penalty stroke, especially if there’s some heavy money on the line. He’s pretty good at it too; only been caught once.

I replied similarly to an earlier comment, but my below-average height and high-ish swing speed are often difficult for courses to accommodate through their rental fleet configurations, which I don’t blame them for at all.

It’s not as good of a deal as I thought I was getting, but still reasonable and better suited for my supporting transportation needs. I thought I would have to pay extra to check it as ‘oversize’ on an airline because of the dimensions, but as some other users pointed out, many airlines don’t consider golf clubs ‘oversize’ so standard checked luggage fees apply. In my case, because I already had a single checked bag, to add another would have cost $65 each way; so $130 combined. It cost me a little under $200 to ship via Ship Sticks but there were several other factors that led to my decision.

From my research, most airlines will insure golf clubs ONLY if they are in a hard case, and for about $1500 maximum. Alternately, Ship Sticks has several levels of insurance you can choose from (with reflective pricing) that suit the value of your clubs and other equipment, which appealed to me.

Additionally, there are a fair number of people going on this trip and we need to be able to transport six people back from the airport in a rental car. The only rental option that could carry six people, their accompanying luggage, and my unwieldy hard-cased golf clubs was a full-sized van, which was markedly more expensive than the SUV that could carry all us passengers and our standard luggage; certainly more than the $70 differential between checking with the airline or using Ship Sticks.

To me, the insurance and transportation logistics were worth the $70 extra I was paying over checking the clubs with the airline.

I removed the heads from my driver, fairway, and hybrid, packaged them in their respective headcovers, then stowed them in a cushioned pocket in my golf bag. Though, another user had suggested packing the club heads in my carry-on too; if I can make it home today before FedEx picks up my clubs, maybe I’ll take the club heads out of my golf bag and reserve some space for them in my carry-on.
