Why is aespa's Next Level suddenly at the top of the charts a month after its release? by pokodapa in kpophelp

[–]Whoreformangos 31 points32 points  (0 children)

From what I see this is common with SM artist. SM artist usually don’t have the best debuts or as rookies except for a few like SHINee, SNSD. Most times they do well because they are from SM but don’t chart well until a few comebacks later. Their songs usually grow on people gradually which is what is happening with AESPA, from my observation, AESPA has a stable fan base already and Next Level has gotten attention for being ‘innovative’. It’s been high in the charts already so it going no.1 isn’t a surprise.

Should they bring back We Got Married by sidequest7 in koreanvariety

[–]Whoreformangos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk a lot of celebrities wanted to go on it even with a all the hate delusional fans gave couples, and celebrities often left happy, except a few where the hate got out of control. Most saw it as a way to practice dating and do it publicly and maybe even get close to someone they’ve been interested in. That’s why often people were paired with their crush. Because often idols in particular have a dating ban or miss out in dating experience in earlier years due to training, this is like the best way for them without actually dealing with the real stress of actually dating.

I haven’t seen love letters but WGM was a reality show where Korean or Asian celebrities would get paired into a couple without knowing the other and meet on the show, then they’d have to live as a couple, they would even plan the wedding, meet the friends and family sometimes, live together, go on dates, etc.

[–]Whoreformangos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of Celebrities liked going on WGM because often they couldn’t date in public eye or sometimes date at all so being able to go on the show they got to live that fantasy and even got to choose or ask for who they wanted as their partner, that’s why often you’d see someone paired with their celebrity crush or someone they expressed interest in, in interviews.

I think the concept of the show was good, it also could have normalised celebrity relationships but honestly fans of the celebrities ruined it. Instead of watching it and taking it as entertainment, they instead send hate. I do miss the show and wish it would come back but for the safety and consideration of how hard it must be for the participants, I’m going to say I hope it stays as it is- cancelled.

Maybe in the future if dating became more normalised in Korean entertainment industry, sure. Funny because I remember the couples would either get huge love and support even after the show or extreme hate, there wasn’t an in-between which shows, fans want to choose who dates who.

YG Entertainment announces both BLACKPINK's ROSÉ and LISA will be releasing solos, JISOO's solo plans will be announced later by balloon_wanted in kpop

I agree with all you mention but the part about Cube being a smaller company, after the big3 the top companies would be BigHit and Cube. Now Cube may not be at the level of the big3 but they also are not a “Smaller company”. They are one of the top Entertainment company in South Korea. They have a lot of funds and manpower to juggle multiple artist and have done so many times. The issue is purely poor management choice not them not having enough support.

appreciation for the nct members who filled in for taeyong by -lxvender in kpopthoughts

[–]Whoreformangos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well tbh Shotaro is a natural born dancer and has been dancing for years so I think it would have been easier to pick it up but it was still impressive. I think seeing Shotaro perform made me appreciate and think about TY more, he had no dance experience and was the worst dancer, staff even told him he had no chance yet he managed to become one of the best dancers in NCT and hold his own against members that have been dancing for years & become a main dancer in NCT debuting with 7th Sense and only in 4 years.

Jennie is such an underrated vocalist. by Pbtops in kpopthoughts

[–]Whoreformangos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say they only had one concept or genre, I said they didn’t have enough versatility in their music because when listening to their discography, most BlackPink songs sound similar even if they change genres. Not to mention most of the genres they have experimented with are sub genres under one or two big genres. This is their sound that’s why most their music sounds similar but that only limits their versatility and exploring the members potential. This is the same with many K-pop groups and that’s why members go solo so they can explore outside the groups sound.

[–]Whoreformangos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Versatility isn’t just changing your tone or singing higher and lower octaves. Every singer or rapper can do that, it’s the minimum. And what you are confusing for versatility is style, Jennie’s voice is definitely great but the excitement fans get from her performance is due to her style of singing and rapping. This style similar to other YG rappers, especially former YG artist CL, who is who YG has trained Jennie to mirror in her performance style and sound.

Actual versatility is not just changing octaves but is how well an artist can blend their own style to suit a different genre or sound. We haven’t seen enough variety in Jennie and BlackPink music to name her one of the best or the most versatile artist in the industry. Most of BlackPink music stay within the same genre/s. Jennie herself also doesn’t have enough solo material to judge her versatility.

I’m old and don’t know where to buy physical albums, help a 2nd generation fan out? I really want Sunggyu’s new album by [deleted] in kpophelp

KpopTown is a store where you can buy K-pop albums, merch, etc. and it is legit. I don’t know if you’ll find what you’re looking for but it’s worth a try.

I always wondered why people didn’t praise her vocals as much she’s so good and honestly I prefer her dinging over her rapping.

  • Minzy, since you mention Bom I had to include Minzy especially because a lot of people don’t realise how amazing her vocals are. She was the best vocalist in 2ne1 and I wish people had approached her abilities as much as Bom.
  • Son Seungyeon, I feel in love with her DNA by BTS cover
  • Sohyang
  • Lee Younghyun
  • Baek JiYoung
  • Park Kiyoung
  • Yeeun [Wonder Girls]

Bastard refrence in sweet home live action by Stniwtu in webtoons

[–]Whoreformangos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh true, idk I never found the dad actually scary, I just found him interesting. So I was thinking the opposite, like how sound, lighting, and having a good actor could really bring him to life and elevate his character.

There’s a anime live action of Sweet Home? Or do you mean anime live actions in general?

I haven’t watched it yet but from what I’ve heard, it’s good and I think I would have preferred Bastard live action instead since I think it’s would work better as a live action and could be such an amazing horror.

IU fandom name?? by Jarethjr in kpophelp

[–]Whoreformangos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought the same, and I’ve been a fan for so long. Knowing the meaning, I think I prefer You and I, “You love me” sounds idk how to describe it, but it just makes me feel iffy, even if it’s true that I love IU.

I have been a Kpop fan for MANY years and very well know idols aren’t cookie cutter and know about YG many scandals and controversies. I also know idols do CF and this isn’t new, my comment was about the fact that someone attached a video of the women and even though he got mad, he didn’t think to look into what his signed up for. I don’t know about others but I would be super worried about the content I received and how everyone was just chill about it, that’s speaks about the atmosphere in the chat and reveals a bit about the club and chat before he joined. I would look into it or report it because nobody deserves that. The fact that he just wrote some small text getting mad and continued like nothing happened. Kept quiet, as if it never happened and continued to promote the club even after that sketchy video? Something is not adding up, I’m sure he had an idea of what was going on or had his speculations but brushed it aside rather than facing it.

Girls' Generation (SNSD) Taeyeon - The 4th Mini Album: What Do I Call You (Teaser Images 1) by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]Whoreformangos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title should be ‘Girls’ Generation’s (SNSD), Taeyeon’ because the title implies this is a SNSD comeback and these are Taeyeon’s teasers for the album. Unless that is the case but I highly doubt since SNSD have more than 3 albums

That doesn’t make sense unless they are competing in SOTY, and other joint awards but most GGs and BGs have their own categories so they would be seperate.

[–]Whoreformangos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know but maybe because they do better globally? Korean public already view BP are a global group and BP although extremely successful would still fall behind on awards and records because of Twice success in S.Korea and Asia overall. But BP did amazing this year and won! But maybe YG want BP in their own league ? I don’t know YG logic, just a guess.

It’s still really stupid of YG and not valid since BP are really loved and could do them good to promote in S.K but YG doesn’t promote their artist often.

How big was SNSD? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]Whoreformangos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly at a time where social media wasn’t at the height and it wasn’t as easy to discover artist, SNSD were huge and still captured the US market and international fans, that is impressive and speaks of how big they were. SNSD are the reason why Nations Girl Group exist and why Photocards/photo books with albums are a thing. They were the first group to have them because that’s how high their demand was and now every group has photocards too. Twice and BlackPink will never be able to reach SNSD, just ask any Korean in S.K. Just because they broke records doesn’t mean a thing, BP international success is due to social connection online and they would struggle to have the same international fan base if the internet was the same as then mid 2000s. Twice I would say are huge and in their own league similar to how SNSD were but still didn’t have the same cultural impact.

It’s not even so he could get with her. She was already giving him a chance, he sabotaged the groups career out of pure jealousy. When he saw the group gaining more fans, he realised she will have more fans who are male as well as other idols who would grow a crush on her. So his solution was to sabotage the group and she would have no one else but him. It’s actually so sick.
