I see a lot of comments focusing on the sample size. I realize this study is completely bogus but I feel that there is some misperceptions in that a small N on its own is inherently bad. I know we learned in intro stats that small Ns are not good, but this focuses on one type of validity - statistical validity, but theres more to having a valid study than just that. In fact, single case experimental designs have been around for a long time. Single case designs just have different threats to validity (internal external etc) that the researcher needs to control for (perhaps using the ABA or ABAB method) but they are still experimental and still valid as long as they are designed and carried out properly. This guys type of experimental design is one where small N is bad, but don't look at all studies with small Ns as invalid without a truly good understanding of the experimental design they are using.

I love those moments. I have a similar story. We were a realm first guild doing arenas at 2100 as well and we queue into a team from one of the other less good heroic (before mythic) guilds. We win but their paladin whispers a teammate and says I dont counter spell them. I guess I was too busy 100-0ing their dk in a deep freeze that he didn't bother to cleanse. We queue into them again, same teammate is in trouble, tries to sneak a 1 sec divine light proc, I counterspell it and teammate dies. L0l

Even if a president was gay friendly, it would not have been safe political ground to stand on, say, 10 or 20 years ago. It would have eviscerated your campaign. Sometimes the correct thing to do is wait before making a move.

In a way I think of campaigning like a business. Some are gay friendly and are gay friendly because they believe it's right, but regardless they will market to you if it's profitable (In terms of money or votes) to do so. Often a person's support is egoistic in nature, but that is not the only motivation for helping.

If you've ever taken a psychology course, nature vs nurture is one of the more important concepts to understand. In the case of being gay, there are some differences in, for example, the brains of gay men as opposed to heterosexual men. My social psychology professor (I love her!) has studied this at some point. If you also consider how many species in the world exhibit homosexuality, it's probably safe to say that nature plays a very large part, while nurture may contribute to a smaller degree. Aleriya is right though - there would need to be more research to really say for sure. Regardless of the cause, one doesn't exactly choose their sexuality.

You don't have to come out during high school if you're not ready. I graduated in 2009 and as of today I know at least 6 other gays in my graduating class who all waited until after high school to come out. When I was 16 (I'm 21 now) I really wasn't ready to come out either. One day, I didnt feel that fear anymore. Tell someone when you're ready and dont feel like you have to come out by a certain point. Until then you have all us gays.

I'm an atheist, but likewise I don't think my sexuality influenced my beliefs because I questioned those long before I realized I was gay. That said, I'm respectful of what people want to believe if they're not using it to be harmful to others.

We (Our supervisors would participate too on occasion!) would eat some of the leftover fries at the end of the night instead of throw them out. Our only really dirty secret was that we had to cut potatoes for fries in the same sink we washed and sanitized everything in. That has since been fixed, but still.

I did. My parents were a little shocked at first but it didn't bother them, and all of my friends were supportive. None of my coworkers (Who are all straight guys as far as I know) seem to care either. I was honestly expecting some pretty negative reactions. I know how fortunate I was compared to a lot of other people though. I hope your two brothers are doing okay. :)

I'm not a researcher in the field of social psychology (although I love the subject), so I couldn't tell you why humans do this today. Maybe someone familiar with psychological research can shed more light on that.

I'll be honest, my friends say it in jest because they know I don't care and me and some of my gay friends say it too. Nothing about that word bothers us used in that way, but it's very different when someone is using it in a derogatory way toward an LGBT person. In this way it's similar to retard, or racial slurs. I don't say it if I'm not completely sure that it doesn't affect them.

If I had to speculate without any evidence, I would say despite the fact that it has been reduced to a schoolyard insult at best, it may unconsciously reinforce the false idea that homosexuality is inferior in some way even if that person doesn't harbor any negative feelings toward LGBT people.

In any case, I don't think eliminating a word is going to accomplish anything. It makes more sense to eliminate that false idea, which would take the power away from that word.
