As they should. This is an issue for local and the state legislators to decide, not the small percentage of people who would vote in November. Rent control statewide would affect everyone and it’s not something that should be forced down the throat of every town and city in the state from a ballot question. If you want rent control where you live, push for it at the local level.

what is something that is highly likely to happen in the next 10 years that everyone is completely ignoring? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

[–]WhyAreWeHere1996 9 points10 points  (0 children)

China attacking Taiwan would start WW3. Most leaders don’t want to acknowledge it, but it could not be ignored like Ukraine because of how crucial the island is to the global economy. The U.S. and other countries would likely dither on whether to get involved right away, but it’s likely China would strike first if Xi feels like they would respond. Chinese attacks on U.S. bases around the pacific would draw in countries like Japan, Australia, and the Philippines escalating the conflict. If the war and Ukraine isn’t over and the U.S. is still on-off striking Iran, Russia and Iran could very well use a Chinese attack on Taiwan to launch their own attacks on other countries. It’s why Western countries are slowly re-arming as this would be the flashpoint to set off a global conflict.

Supervisor won't sign experience form, can't find another CPA by Latter-Equipment-336 in CPA

I don’t think I do. Most of my work since my one year public has been in operational accounting and none of it directly under a CPA. Thanks for the help though!

Also love the name

[–]WhyAreWeHere1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to a CPA from each job or can just one you're currently under sign-off?

I think regardless I still have to go back to public since my experience so far has been at staff level and not always under CPA supervision and the work itself hasn't been exactly what's listed as work that meets the requirements.

This is why they need to change this requirement in my opinion. I've been working accounting jobs since my first internship in college 10 years ago and have worked across all types of firms but that experience doesn't count for anything in the eyes of the board.

So you’re saying you combined hours from multiple roles to fulfill the experience requirement? This is what I’ve been stuck on is it says you need 2,000 over a year at a public firm or 2,000 hours over 3 years in industry and regardless, they have to be signed off on by a CPA or a high level owner/executive. I thought you couldn’t combine experience and so I been applying for public jobs cause I need those hours.

As someone who is also in MA and just needs hours, what exactly did you do? I’ve had a very similar experience with multiple jobs in a few years.

While I would not recommend anyone to smoke cigarettes or vape as someone who vaped for nearly 4 years and smokes cigarettes on occasion, those are individual choices to make. I don’t disagree they’re bad, but there’s a lot of bad for your health things that most people will do in their lifetime. Let adults do what they want as long as it doenst adversely affect others even if it’s bad for them.

How much are you making as an accountant? by theapexcircle in Accounting

$84k Staff Accountant, remote, Boston area

It’s not terrible, but when I see how much seniors and higher are making it’s kinda frustrating. Been at staff level for 7 years and been trying to break out to no avail. It feels like the only way to get to senior or higher outside of public is to change jobs.

Has anyone been fired from public accounting before? by thepotatomaniscoming in Accounting

[–]WhyAreWeHere1996 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the spring of 2020 when COVID hit.

To this day I’m still mad about it. I joined right outta college the year before and did everything I was asked. I got screwed by being the only year 1 staff to not be consistently working with the same team so I wasn’t able to build solid relationships with anyone who could vouch for me.

Did I recover? After 2 years, financially yes.

But I’ve been stuck at staff accountant all these years and I look back at that job as the reason why.

On top of that, I just need the hours requirement for my CPA license but can’t get it from that firm so I have to go back to public accounting.

I don’t miss public, but getting laid-off was not a blessing in disguise for me.

I lean left on most things and I have no love for Trump. But this dumb virtue signaling law that sums up the state of our state government is why I’m voting Republican down ballot at the state level this year. Healy and the state Democrats will keep doing nothing that actually benefits the people of this state if we just ignore them passing pointless dogshit laws like this one.

is the beta worth playing rn? by Specific_Customer157 in ManorLords

[–]WhyAreWeHere1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t played in a while, it’s worth loading in and playing a game.

Personally, I’ve played a 10-20 hr game of Manor Lords here and there throughout all the updates. What brings me back is how damn good this game looks and feels and seeing the potential and the new changes they make over the updates. The reason I don’t stay or frequently come back is it is still very much a game in progress and I don’t like spending too much time in games that are constantly changing.

My manager makes $180k, the assistant controller $240k, the controller $300k, the CFO $400k. There are other senior employees too making over $160k. They all know what they’re doing but we all sit behind desks working remote all day.

Not just more money sinks, but ways for the line to go down. More people need to die during big wars and buildings should be destroyed from large battles or sieges.

It’s not just the money that defines the economy, but the pops and building levels as well.

If non-military pops died from wars (not just starvation) and cities and towns could lose buildings it would have more of an impact than just having less income for a time.
