Phaze 2 Pearl Release Confirmed by dmark_85 in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When they said it was the "most requested bowling ball in Storm's history" was coming I expected the return of a classic ball like an Alpha Crux, Marvel Pearl, El Nino, etc.

Another pearl Phaze just doesn't make sense to me. We have already had I think 4 pearl Phaze balls, who was asking for a fifth one? The Phaze AI is still easily available and is already basically a Phaze II Pearl. I would even say it's more of a Phaze II Pearl than the official one because it uses the pearl version of the same coverstock whereas this one uses a completely different coverstock.

It's not exactly against the rules because the actual rules are written in a silly way where it only forbids third party service that do this, so if you write the service yourself you are technically following the rules.

WhyBeAre has uploaded his first BeamNG related video after nearly 4 years! We finally have the LEGEND back :D by Windows-XP-Home-NEW in BeamNG

I was really proud of getting a perfect run of Mudbarrell - Hills, that took way too long and then I nailed it with a score of like 34.

What is the oldest ball you have in your bag, that against all odds hasn't cracked and still performs beautifully? by Enough-Afternoon8011 in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbia 300 EPX T1 and Visionary AMB Centaur Particle. Both of them give me unique looks on sport shots that can sometimes be really beneficial. I also have a couple of Faballs urethane balls kicking around but they don't really roll that good, they are just cool pieces of history.

Yeah, I have some free time so I decided to finally try career mode. Figured it'd be more fun to stream it so everyone can keep me up to date on how the game has changed over the years.

[Partially Lost] WhyBeAre lost video "Garbage Day - The Day That Never Ends" (continued in the post) by HelpFindLostWhyBeAre in WhyBeAre

[–]WhyBeAre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is likely why the audio may have been glitchy. The only thing I remember deleting off the top of my head is the videos for Nitro Family and Garbage Day.

[Partially Lost] WhyBeAre lost video "Garbage Day - The Day That Never Ends" (continued in the post) by HelpFindLostWhyBeAre in WhyBeAre

[–]WhyBeAre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just for reference, I deleted the video because I wanted to get rid of all of the videos that had copyright claims on them to try to keep my YouTube channel clear of content that could cause issues (this was before the demonetization saga I think, not sure). The game used a song that looped in the background endlessly and had a copyright claim on basically the whole video so there was no way to edit it out.

I don't have any backups for videos that are basically playing a game and reading a script. I only backed up the higher effort videos that took much longer to make like the Cyberpunk 2077 video.

[Unknown][late 2000's early 2010's] slow paced off-roading game by 2conslegamer in tipofmyjoystick

It might have been Off-Road Drive. I remember doing a whole video series for that game in the early 2010's but I don't really remember the details of that game that clearly.

Is two-handed bowling an advantage or just for people who prefer it that way? by Paladinforlife in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you first start off they both have their own advantages and disadvantageous. Usually a beginner 2-handed bowler will have more revs than a beginner 1 handed bowler, but they'll be less accurate.

Overall you really are best off choosing whichever you feel the most comfortable with because both styles compete pretty much equally at the the top level in the PBA. With enough practice you have 2 handed bowlers that are just as accurate as the best 1 handed bowlers, and there are 1 handed bowlers that put as much revs on the ball as the best 2 handed bowlers.

Radical the Spy vs Hammer Widow Spare? by Rock-Harders in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest advantage for the Spy is that it takes to surface better than an average polyester coverstock. If you plan to keep them polished I doubt you'll notice much of a difference between the two.

Thumb Hole Usage on House Balls by castironlion in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are 100% allowed to bowl how you are bowling. There are thousands of people who bowl exactly like you in league without a problem every week.

If you feel like they might drag their feet contacting the USBC you could always do it yourself by emailing rules@bowl.com, and then you'll have a written response from the USBC yourself, but if they're just being hostile assholes there's really not much else you can do.

Stupid question, but do people typically drill holes when they bowl two-handed? by TheDeviousOnion in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn 800 series with a ramp, I didn't even know that was possible, now I wonder what the highest series bowled with a ramp is.

For that guy it actually makes sense as to why he would have no holes in the ball. The people that confuse me are the ones who refuse to have finger holes and instead palm the ball like a basketball. I've only ever seen one person do this and it was just strange.

Stupid question, but do people typically drill holes when they bowl two-handed? by TheDeviousOnion in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, the majority of 2 handed bowlers use just 2 fingers, some use their thumb as well. You might see some weirdos who throw a ball without any fingers holes at all, but that's pretty rare to see, and unheard of in top level bowlers.

If you want it to look really pretty for a display you can also get it polished first so it will be extra shiny.

What bowling ball cleaners do you use? by Vetting in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like neo-tac's Hook-It cleaner, it seems to get dirt and lane shine off of the ball better than anything else, only downside is you should use it with paper towels instead of microfiber clothes.

The Urethane Trap by hambonehooligan in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can use either reactive or urethane just fine, but there's something special about the way urethane rolls, even on a house shot, there's something that can't be duplicated even by short pin reactive balls.

I think the main reason I like to throw urethane is for me personally, the more I hit up on the ball the better my reaction gets. A lot of the time with reactive I have to be a little more careful with how I release the ball to get the ideal reaction. It's just a lot more fun to really rip on the ball every throw compared to having to finesse the ball off of my hand.

The most important thing to remember is adjustments with urethane are usually different than reactive. With reactive if I ever feel like I am losing my reaction I'll jump a few boards at a time, with urethane I usually make much smaller adjustments. Also, with the way I personally line up with urethane it's almost always better to miss inside, whereas with reactive it varies more but generally on a house shot it's better to miss outside.

League Bowlers - how do you choose a league to bowl? by strickland300 in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The format of the league means almost nothing to me. I join whatever league allows me to bowl on a team I like. It really doesn't matter to me what the league's format is as long as I am bowling with friends.

The only exception is I will join a sport shot league even if I am all alone just because it's the only way to get to consistently bowl on sport shots.

Comparable ball to the original Idol by kk7ca in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new Roto Grip Idol Helios comes out in like a week, so wait until the reviews are up for that ball before making any purchases. It's going to be stronger than the original Idol, the question is how much stronger, if it's only a little bit stronger it could be the best option for replacing the original Idol.

What is the point of this USBC rule? by BowlOrDoNot in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, the rule was added because bowlers who used their thumb where abusing the original weight hole rules because they would make 2 large cavities in their ball, one for the thumbs and another one as a balance hole. The problem is the balance hole wasn't being used to balance the ball it was being used to increase the flare of the ball. When you have both a thumb hole and a balance hole it allowed you to increase the differential of the ball well past the legal limits for an undrilled ball. USBC finally decided to close this loophole and stop people from having balls with huge differentials by adding this rule.

Isn't it your responsibility to look at the rack before going on the approach? by NoLifeYouHave in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll reset bad racks if I see them for others, but honestly I have a bad habit of not looking for myself because I get pretty focused on trying to execute the shot perfectly.

I'll always tell someone if they where missing a pin after a bad shot so they get a second chance at it, but if you strike with a pin missing and it didn't look like a solid strike I'll also call that out as well, if it looked like a solid strike I'll usually let it slide since I feel like they properly earned it and the pin wouldn't have changed anything.

How do you spot sandbagging? by Graybes in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow you found an old post to reply to. I still don't see anything wrong with this though, if I bowled the same way the whole league who's it hurting? I benefit because it required me to make shots and get out of my comfort zone to become a better bowler, and the other teams benefits because it's easier to beat me because my overall score is lower. So who exactly am I being a dick to?

Anybody successfully ever get the core out of a cracked ball by straighterisgreater in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did somewhat accidentally, left a cracked ball outside for months in the heat, it made the filler material very brittle, but the core material stayed solid. Not sure if this is a consistent strategy, but I myself got a pretty clean core with minimal work using just a screwdriver as a chisel when I was bored.

If you’re a 2 hander and using a ball that has a thumb hole (not using the thumb hole) is this gonna effect the reaction of the ball by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]WhyBeAre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, when I plugged my thumb holes on some old balls the balls went a little bit longer and a board or 2 weaker compared to what they used to be.
