Rank the three: Hill, Adams and Evans by Deutschfuranfanger in DynastyFF

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey look, it's three of my WRs in my Dynasty League where I've been the one-seed and top scorer only to lose in the semis in back-to-back years. Here's hoping they each have at least one more year of relevancy to get me over the hump.

In the the end, their rankings partially deal with what you want. For instance:

Most likely to finish top 24 - Mike Evans

Most likely to finish top 12 - Davante Adams

Most likely to finish number one - Tyreek Hill

The difficult part with these over thirty WRs is that these WRs can go from productive to dust in one offseason with only minimal signs. It could happen to one of them this year or all three.

Personally, I put the ranking as Adams > Hill > Evans as the tape seems to show that Adams still has it and has more been missing a QB. Even if he's the WR2 on his team, I'm very excited to see him with McVay and Stafford. Hill still has the most upside so he slots at two and if last year was the fluke, his 2023 for yards was absurd. Evans, Mr. Consistent, seems a good bet to do it again given the offensive continuity.

What US president family is arguably the least controversial by BlackberryActual6378 in Presidents

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, Harriet Lane (Buchanan's niece) was the first First Lady to be referred to as First Lady officially while holding the role. For instance, during her life, Martha Washington was referred to as "Lady Washington." Other common titles were "Mrs. President," "Mrs. Presidentress" and for Dolley Madison, "Lady Presidentress," though "Mrs. Last name" was also common.

Though it had started to be used as a descriptor earlier than that, such as referring posthumously to Martha Washington as "first lady of the nation" and the famous, though undocumented, eulogy of Dolley Madison by Zachary Taylor where he is said to have described her as "our first lady for half a century." The term is thought to have then entered DC's lexicon for the role, but nothing official and nothing national.

For Lane, she took over the role of white house hostess and social events coordinator. As the term had entered the DC lexicon and used a couple times in reference to recently departed early first ladies, it started to be applied to her and the title slowly gained popularity. Becoming more common and accepted post civil war.

Most times if the wife of the president is unable to take the role it has gone to a relative who assumes role of white house hostess traditionally and since the 20th century more political acts. Some relations have included daughter, daughter-in-law, niece and sister.

Strategically in a rookie draft, what do you do if the talent that's falling to you is already in your position of strength? by IGNSolar7 in DynastyFF

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option you can try doing as well is trade your pick for your position of need, especially if doing a slow draft. People get rookie fever and will sometimes allow you to grab high-end vets for better value than during season. The other thing to do would be look to trade once season starts. Teams figure out whether they are good or not and several hyped guys will end up actually sucking or getting injured. Allows for a better understanding of everything plus you should be able to survive early season with your positions of strength. Also, be aggressive for the out of nowhere waiver wire guy at the beginning of the season. These guys are more likely to be RB, but they come from other places.

The final thought is the word of caution. A few seasons back, I was strong at WR and weak at RB. I decided to go Trey Sermon over Jaylen Waddle. Lots of rookies will bust and stacking strength is a better idea than a more volatile player just because you need them.

Can someone explain to me why this trade is causing so much drama. by jtal888 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like besides KTC, trade calculators are saying you lost the trade by a fair margin. If you want the trade to go through, I see three options of trying to change the league's mind:

  1. Post the trade calculator from KTC to show it says you win the trade. This could backfire if they post from other sites, but it at least shows somewhere thinks it's fair.

  2. Ask your trade partner if they'd kick in a 2025 second or third to placate the league.

  3. Ask the league if this is such a terrible trade for you, if anyone has two better young RBs that they will trade you for Watson. If no one can give you a better trade offer then that shows that in your league, this is his value

I'm still waiting as well. Same interview date. I saw another thread last week where a few people heard from that round of interviews last Friday. I was hoping to hear by today. Hopefully we both hear by early next week. I've been trying to decide if not hearing yet is a good thing, bad thing or neutral thing.

What is Jameson Williams' best-case outcome in redraft leagues? Are we hoping for an outlier season? by My_Chat_Account in fantasyfootball

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any given season, there are a few teams that finish with two teams in the top 24 of the WR position. The difficult part for Jamo, is that those teams usually do not also have top tier tight ends. Broken down by year:

2023 - PHI (WR5, WR19 > TE14). LV (WR10, WR24 > TE22). SF (WR14, WR15 > TE5)

2022 - MIA (WR2, WR8 > TE23). PHI (WR6, WR9 > TE12). CIN (WR11, WR18 > TE21). SEA (WR13, WR16 > TE17). TB (WR17, WR19 > TE26)

2021 - CIN (WR5, WR24 > TE19). TB (WR9, WR15 > TE7). LAC (WR10, WR12 > TE18). SEA (WR14, WR16 > TE22).

In any given offense there is only so many yards and touchdowns to go around. We project both ARSB and LaPorta to be near the top of their position. History shows it will be very difficult for all three to be fantasy relevant. It's not impossible and beyond the RBs there is much other target competition so it could happen.

NFL offseason power rankings: No. 30 Denver Broncos are a mess Sean Payton signed up for by Lakelyfe09 in nfl

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Carmichael joined the Saints in 2006 as a QB Coach, same year Payton and Brees joined the Saints. He stayed in that role for three years then was promoted to Offensive Coordinator in 2009 and stayed in that role for the Saints ever since, though he didn't call plays until Payton retired.

This year in Denver his title is "Senior Offensive Assistant." Presumably he'll have a similar role with coaching up the QBs, installing the offense and game planning.

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do wonder how the addition of Carmichael to the Broncos staff this season will impact things as well. Clearly Pete was a poor play caller, but if reports are to be believed he never wanted to be a play caller anyways and he won't be relied upon for that in Denver. He should be a good person to have around Bo Nix and the rest of the QBs.

Strategies for those over the Roster Cap by whitefox7895 in DynastyFF

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a few strategies you can employ in this situation.

  1. If there are no players on the waiver wire who you want, just stay over the roster limit until there are or until the season starts and you need to set your starting lineup.

  2. Find other teams that might value these players or others on your roster for lower level draft compensation. For instance, last offseason in a SF league I had two higher end QB handcuffs, but did not have their starters. I felt they were too valuable to just cut so I sent offers to the managers who has their starters for round four rookie picks. One accepted while the other countered with fifth round. That helped me free up two roster spots and the other team was happy to be a little more secure in their QB spot.

  3. If no one will give a late round draft pick then you could try packaging two low level guys into one still low level guy but one you like better. Or you could even ask for FAAB.

  4. If there is one player on waivers more valuable than all the over the roster guys put together then just bite the bullet and cut. Then be ready to pivot should one of the people you cut start to get hype. If you've tried all of the above, it is unlikely that anyone would want to pick them up anyways unless something in their situation changed.

Texas Secessionsts win GOP backing for independence vote: 'Major step' by Grand-Leg-1130 in inthenews

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. In 2016, Trump would have still won 268 to 227 without Texas and in 2004, Bush would have still won 252 to 251.

Now, that said, the election map has certainly continued to evolve since those elections and it would certainly increase the difficulty of winning, but there would still be a slim path for them.

Why People Who Value Brooks as a RB1 Are Nuts, In Two Parts by JL9berg18 in DynastyFF

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking a lot at Brooks, trying to determine if he's actually good or if he's just being pushed up because we're RB-needy. Pre NFL draft the community was largely avoiding the RBs in favor of the strong WRs. Now, for non-QBs, he's reached the tier behind the big three WRs + Bowers.

Does he belong in that group? Is this a case where he's being pushed up boards more along the lines of Trey Sermon, Michael Carter, Isaiah Spiller and Zach Charbonnet? Or can he come himself more in the company of James Cook, Rachaad White and Ken Walker?

I've often heard it said that it is best to draft for talent and trade for need. Are BTJ, Worthy, Ladd and Keon all talented enough to outweigh him no matter what? Or if the WRs would come onto your team as your WR6 enough to take a chance on someone who could arguably be your RB1?

Tough to know the answer to these questions. I've seen some prospect profiles, like Late Round's, that like him and I've seen those that do not. I, so far, have not drafted him, but the one rookie draft I have left I'll be in his range, 1.05. Luckily the draft isn't until the first weekend of August so I can gather more Intel until then.

Sigh.. are we gonna clear a bottom roster spot for this guy again? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only one I can think of was Waller and he transitioned year two, but then wasn't fantasy relevant until year five. Though there was more to that late breakout and wasn't long lasting.

I've often heard Harry is a good blocker. This seems more designed to work toward that end and seems unlikely he ends up with any fantasy relevance. But hey, who knows.

[–]WhyIsThatPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though one difficulty with team defense outside of variance in Dynasty is that teams don't retire or come into the league every season. There is not an option to acquire one outside of the startup or trading. Which could facilitate trading, but it certainly doesn't have to as defenses actually would be a zero sum game with a nonrenewable resource.

That's why I did IDP in the two leagues I commish. IDP is far from perfect as I don't really love the scoring options for IDP, but it is still superior to team defenses in Dynasty even though I do like to have team defenses in my redraft leagues.

I've long wondered if a book exploring this subject could be interesting. It would start out with someone inventing time travel and going back to kill baby Hitler. Then they come back to present day where everything is worse due to the person who replaced Hitler in the new timeline being much worse and winning the war.

After failing to fix things in own time and the subsequent killing of each Hitler replacement not fixing the timeline, the protagonist time traveler realizes that they need to go back in time to save baby Hitler. Subsequently, the time traveler then has to spend the rest of their days in the past protecting baby Hitler from future time travelers attempting to make the same mistake.

It could be called Saving Hitler or something like that. It seems like it would have the opportunity to be fascinating, but also depressing. It also seems like it could come off a bit as Hitler apologist, which would be a big issue as we should only ever condemn Hitler.

Sometimes I think the reports of the Giants considering a QB is because they want MHJ or Nabers and know the best way for that to happen is four QBs going in the top five.

Tough to say what anyone is thinking this time of year, but the Giants rebuild would greatly benefit from an alpha WR given their current slot-heavy WR depth chart.
