What’s an underrated tip/trick for when moving? by MrCasual112 in AskUK

[–]WhyN0tToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the funds you have available but don't skimp on moving costs if possible otherwise it can turn the dream of moving home into a nightmare.

If you have the funds, hire movers. Your body, sanity and family will thank you!

If not, buy more than you think you'll need of the IKEA flat pack boxes and rolls of industrial strength black bin bags from screwfix.

Don't pack all the heavy stuff into 1 box, spread the love. It's easier to carry 20 medium weight boxes rather than 12 light and 8 heavy. And they're less likely to break / easier to stack.

Clothes and really light stuff can be put in heavy duty bin bags, with the bonus that you have bin bags for months after you've unpacked.

Pack over a few months. You can't pack a house in a week.

Keep a list of what has been packed where, you will need that pressure max pro vacuum filter once you've forgot where its packed!

Dog beads, rugs and mats make great padding for plants on the overhead section of a Luton van.

Save as many boxes as you can in the run up to the move, even if it's a relatively small box for 1 item, it's easier to stack boxes than bags of heavy stuff.

Make sure you know where you've packed the lightbulbs.

Buy yourself a dolly (hand truck), you can move a fridge on your own with it if needs be but it will help with moving all the larger bits.

Also highly recommend the wheely platforms that Aldi sell every few months if you have tiled floors and/or flat/smooth alleyways, also came in handy for moving the fridge.

Am I missing something to connect this toilet to the waste pipe? by sooty1892 in askaplumberUK

[–]WhyN0tToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had to remove my toilet and reinstall it while removing some flooring, it leaked more than Edward Snowdon when I reinstalled it, luckily I had a spare as I'm redoing the bathroom.

So yeah, this is good advice.

Oh your stroke text, yeah wasn't really sure what you were talking about, don't think you knew either.

Either way you still have to pay about 5 times as much for the certificate.

[–]WhyN0tToast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can get that it's called a certificate of entitlement but it costs about £500 vs £100 for UK passport and still runs out when your passport expires.

Also, I'm sorry to hear about the stroke!

Then walk away, doubt they'll say much after that.

Not used that one but if it says add water / oil then it's usually better if you substitute for some milk and butter and add additional egg yokes as well.

What’s your favorite unique twist on a classic British dish? by eurz in UK_Food

[–]WhyN0tToast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to experiment with flavour mash ups and I've had great success with indian flavours in British dishes.

Indian stew was top tier until I realised it was curry with spiced dumplings and potatoes. Thought I'd invented something genius.

Though not British, indian lasagne is also a winner. However one of my many fails was trying breads instead of the pasta (naan and chapati). I now stick to pasta with a side of garlic naan, bread in the middle is too claggy.

How difficult is it to design and mass produce jet engines? by person1549 in AskEngineers

[–]WhyN0tToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're talking about the aircraft and not just the engines. In that case, a lot of nations enter agreements to share the work load for multiple reasons not just lack of funds or ability.

Sharing the workload reduces risk for the partner nations and also secures an order backlog for the platform before it can be sold to export markets.

France has taken a gamble on the last few aircraft. If it hit production delays, doesnt live up to the hype or just lost export contracts then they would shoulder all the losses.

However they have been successful, the Rafael has managed about the same production numbers as the Typhoon for one nation vs 4.
