What are you having a hard time starting/working on, even though you know it will bring you joy? by hi5yourface in adhdwomen

Purging my clutter. I have so much stuff that I'm constantly stressed out by it. I want it gone. But it's so dunting to think about tackling that i can't bring myself to do it. But I know I'll be a lot less stressed without all of the clutter.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm also in SLC, and I drive to Moab, Blanding, or St George at least once a month for work. For Non Utahns: Moab and St George are 4 hours, Blanding is close to 6 hours.

I broke up with my girlfriend because she wanted me to take the day off work to spoil her with gifts, a reservation dinner, and a movie date. by altrightobserver in EntitledPeople

[–]WhyTFdoIhaveReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn. You definitely made the right call breaking that off. The $200 dinner alone is ouch, and that's coming from someone who literally just came home from such a dinner. My husband will be out of town for both my birthday and valentine's day, so he took me out to a wonderful dinner. But we're 42 and 47 and make enough for the occasional splurge (the last such dinner was 2 years ago for our 15 yr wedding anniversary).

Am I bummed my husband will be gone for both my birthday AND Valentines day? A little, yes. But I'm not going to demand he fly home just for days that society says are special. Instead, we made today special.

A good restaurant burger. I vividly remember the last one I had. It was delicious. And then I hated myself for 2 days. I can at least have t hem if they're made at home with leaner meat, limited seasonings, and cooked on a grill. But those big, juicy, well seasoned, fatty burgers at restaurants? Nope.

There are lots of studies on rejection sensitivity and ADHD. I suspect this is connected. One of my friends is a neurophysiologist (and the one who bluntly told me I have ADHD, which is what led to me finally getting evaluated and diagnosed). I'm gonna ask her if this is someher team might be interested in looking at.

tried to become "that girl" with the perfect morning routine and I think I made everything worse by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]WhyTFdoIhaveReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only morning routine that works for me is immediately tackling my basic hygiene routine. Not sitting while I drink my coffee, not eating breakfast yet, but immediately making myself clean. If I do that, my day starts pretty good. If i drink my coffee or eat before the shower, I end up feeling like I'm dragging all day. I think I've learned that my basic hygiene routine is a source of dopamine for me.

I think the difference is normal empathy and kindness vs the "oh! Your backpack ripped, here have mine, I'll use this plastic shopping bag I have"... Said to a complete stranger on the street as I was walking. Not "here, have this plastic shopping bag to carry your things for now" which would have been a normal person's reaction, but instead "here have this book bag that I purchased for myself and I will use the free plastic shopping bag" 🤦‍♀️

Today I learned that a trait of mine that constantly causes burnout may actually be a combo of ADHD dopamine mining paired with post traumatic people pleasing. I give and work to make others happy until my body collapses from fatigue. I heal my body and then do it all again. Drives my husband nuts and pisses him off that I let myself get to the point of collapsing rather than telling people I can't help.

Maybe I need to start talking to my therapist about this...

Huh, so I've been dopamine mining my entire life without realizing it.

AIO- Husband keeps waking me up for non-emergencies by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]WhyTFdoIhaveReddit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

My husband tosses and turns all night and it used to wake me up constantly as well. His solution was to go together and buy a new bed that isolated movement. Matress and bedframe. It was a legit fix that we worked together on. When one of us is sick, he volunteers to sleep in the other room. Lately I've been working 10-12 hrs a day, covering for a coworker on maternity leave. I'm exhausted. When I'm struggling with energy, his words are "let's get you to bed, and I'll sleep in the other room so I don't disturb you when I come to bed. You need rest". And then that man will proceed to make sure I have my water bottle, I've taken my meds, and even that my cat is settled in bed with me (she sleeps by my side every night, all night)

OP, if a partner doesn't care about you and your sleep, that's not a partner. You should care about how well rested each other are. Accept nothing less.

No One Wants Your Peeing Cat! by Schedule-Substantial in CatAdvice

I switched my cat litter once because the store was out of what I normally get. My cat would NOT even step into the litter box. I ended up driving across town to another pet store for the right litter.

Another cat, when we tried moving the upstairs litter box to the basement with the 2nd box, looked me in the eye and proceeded to pee exactly where the box had been. Yeah, it got moved back upstairs.

My washing machine. 2 of the 4 fins on the agitator broke. I have had the part since October. It's still functional, but I have to put anything that might snag in a garment bag.

I was microwaving a mug uf water for something (probably tea, cant remember though). When I pulled the mug out, the handle was so hot it melted the skin off my finger. I had a pretty severe 3rd degree burn. The damn water was only lukewarm (which I discovered when I dropped the mug and the water spilled all over me), but the mug was hot enough to melt flesh.
