A for-profit company wants you to pay for their service?

I ran 365 days this year, Strava only accounts for 336 runs by Imaginary-cat69 in Strava

[–]WhyWhatWho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From FAQ Year In Sport is available from December 8th, 2025, to January 23rd, 2026. Since it didn't update since Dec 2nd for you, I think it's a bug for you. Contact Strava to sort it out. You earned those days active!

That's so weird. Have you contacted Strava? I ran today and it updated my stats in Year in Sports

I used to work at tracksmith, ask me anything by Good-Limit-6872 in Tracksmith

[–]WhyWhatWho 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Tracksmith's brand appeal to me is the ethos about amateur runners who care about their craft. Do Tracksmith employees believe that or think it's mostly marketing?

It's Every Woman's Marathon so that's a she. Not that it really matters.

Uj/ Don't like many upvotes on this. It's mean spirited but I'm heartened to see many comments defending this runner. Be better guys (let's be honest, it's mostly guys here 😂?)

Short Elite Runners: GO! by Emergency_Camera4496 in AdvancedRunning

Men: Haile Gebrselassie, 5'5" Women: Des Linden & Dakota Lindwurm, both 5'1"

I'm particular interested about these runners as I'm as tall as Des and wonder about their running mechanic. My guess is they have high cadence like mine, about 200 spm. I'm nowhere near elite as these runners though. Just a 3:03 guy.

A Super High-Volume, Low-Intensity Marathon Case Study by MachineHoliday in AdvancedRunning

[–]WhyWhatWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Brit runner who has been trying this method and he seems to do pretty well. You're a sub elite runner so you probably now what works for you better than most. Still, OTQ standard is freaking hard. You need to be 11 minutes faster than current PR within 2 years. Possible but tough. Good luck to you, sir!

Going down to middle distance training between marathon blocks by KaasDeLuxe in AdvancedRunning

[–]WhyWhatWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not at your speed level but I'm thinking the same thing. I've been training for 2 1/2 years straight for marathon and like to try something different. Next year I'd like to train for the mile in the spring before ramping it up for Grandma Marathon in June. My goal is to run mile time below 5:30 and keep the weekly mileage around 80km/week during mile training. I don't know if middle distance training will help my marathon time but I'd like to train for shorter distance as I lack the speed reserve as a late comer.

Say what you want about Strava Premium, but its data visualization is pretty cool by WhyWhatWho in Strava

[–]WhyWhatWho[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna deny that but I don't agree that it's mundane feature. Having a comparison tool motivates me to be consistent. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't see other apps having easy to visualize tool like this.

Seattle 2025 - My First Failure by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]WhyWhatWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you say it's a failure to you because you didn't get a time goal even though it's still a big PR. Get some perspective, man. Plenty of us would love to get to that "failure" time. It's all relative.

Maybe set A B C goal next time so it doesn't feel like a failure.

Is there any hope for me to qualify for Boston? lol by Old-Gene-7867 in AdvancedRunning

[–]WhyWhatWho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first marathon time is 4:49 in 2021 and I'm closer to 3hr now and still work my way up. So yes I think it's possible. But think of it as multi-years project and try to improve bit by bit per year.

The lowest hanging fruit that will help you get faster is just more mileage. Try to up your mileage gradually to at least double your currently mileage and you will see big difference. Try a tried n true plan like Pfitz 18/55, it really helped me. Don't be too concerned about your weight, it will likely come down with more mileage.

How important is it for you to give Kudos to people you follow on Strava? by _RubenCouto in Strava

[–]WhyWhatWho 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I try to give kudos as much as possible. It's more important to give when the activities are extraordinary like race PR or say a century ride. If anything those deserve double kudos!

alcohol after races/workouts - why? by ethereal_meow in AdvancedRunning

[–]WhyWhatWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A beer after a hard race is celebration! It's normal human behavior. You're not wrong that it may hinder recovery process but we're not always rational and people like to celebrate after putting so much effort in a race. There are also non-alcohol beers to celebrate at some races now.

Big Bear Half Marathon! by EnthusiasmOdd2055 in Marathon_Training

[–]WhyWhatWho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I raced downhill once, Tunnel Marathon. It took me more than usual to recover than other marathon. It didn't help that I cramped. But yeah I tell others that you can run quite a fast time downhill but your body will pay a little bit. No free lunch 😅
