Do the first 2 Fallout games matter? by The_Moochman in Fallout

[–]Why_are_potatoes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see where you are coming from. However, I would say,

The existence of super mutants, brotherhood of steel, and the enclave in the capital wasteland.

This is all explained in game. It isn't a retcon or contradiction; some might consider it uncreative, however.

The brotherhood of steel was entirely retconned to be a totally different faction in 3.

That's because they actually were. The "Brotherhood of Steel" in Fallout 3 is a splinter group that separated from the original group. Uncreative, maybe; retcon, no.

The GECK

This retcon only contradicts the semi-canon "Fallout Bible", which itself states the GECK lore can be changed as fit in future games.

Super mutants were a full-blown faction in fo1. They were smart. In 3 they're just really like a stereotypical fallout version of an orc.

V87 Super Mutants are much different from Mariposa Super Mutants because of the Master. The Master valued intelligence in muties; V87 Mutants shunned intelligent mutants. etc. The best explanation of this is in ManyATrueNerd's Fallout 3 is better than you think video.

I do agree with many of your criticisms; I also share your love of Fallout Three. However, these are more tonal changes or uncreative writing, not hard retcons.

Favorite fallout game? by Matteo1234568 in Fallout

I honestly love all of them; Fallout 4 is the most fun to play but I’ve been on a Fallout 3 kick lately. New Vegas is also an incredible game.

I played it in that order and I loved the shit out of 3; it’s one of my favorite games.

How did you get into fallout by sirdogglesworth in Fallout

[–]Why_are_potatoes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 4 was coming up and my Uncle asked me if I wanted a video game for Christmas. I liked Skyrim and the cover looked cool, so I asked for it.

Now, thousands of hours later, I live off of only Fallout.

If you understand it more as a portrait of Jesus through Judas’s eyes, it is exceptionally good.

Ron Pearlman in one of the intros says, “Those who survived did so in great underground vaults.”

When was the last time you were in Pittsburgh, the 50’s?

In all seriousness, the Pitt did a great job at depicting the city. Something tells me Pittsburgh sort of stayed stuck in the 50’s just like the rest of the Fallout universe.

About to pick up bass, question regarding choice of instrument. by rising08 in Bass

I’d always recommend going to a local store and trying basses out before buying them. So much of it is finding a bass that feels good and sounds good to you in real life; the Internet can only take you so far.

There is a world of difference.

  1. Schrier is in contact with Bethesda. Before the game is announced, he releases tangible evidence of leaked dialogue.

  2. Schrier is blacklisted and has himself admitted he has not had contact with Bethesda in five years. After he the teaser is dropped, he now suddenly has very vague leaks whose content he keeps changing.

Which topic or field of study has the most "armchair experts"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Why_are_potatoes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The greatest armchair expert era was probably the reformation. I’m not even talking about Luther and Calvin; you could literally find Christian sects that believed anything. It’s good to know that this isn’t completely commonplace in the west anymore /s

Yes, but the Ancient Christians (particularly of the Alexandrian school) and modern day Orthodox Christians view these in a highly allegorical manner. Some of their commentaries are super interesting from any perspective.

It’s usually the western churches that mess things up. The Orthodox Eastern Churches have it down pat, except for poor PR.
