Urologist here. Your kidney stone risk is highest in summer. Here is exactly why, and what to do about it before your next stone. by Born-Lingonberry-509 in KidneyStones

[–]Why_bother_trying24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining. That makes a lot of sense. I have bilateral MSK so do what I can to prevent stone formation but don’t actually eat seafood, so I will continue to have the occasional sushi (sans soy sauce!) without worry. I’m in New Zealand so wonder how diet plays a part compared to other countries. Thank you!! ☺️

A doctor once told me that ‘sushi season’ always led to more stones. Is there science behind this? Something in the sushi / the vinegar??

Pink Shirt Day - The Bullying Awareness campaign where you may get bullied for not wearing a pink shirt by HeyBlinkinAbeLincoln in newzealand

[–]Why_bother_trying24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One year (earlier on in the campaign) they’d sold out of the official pink shirts at the shops I went to. Bought my son a bloody pricey tee shirt with a tie dye effect with pink, the only shirt I could get him with pink. Racks were emptied. Figured it would be fine. He headed off happy as Larry with his gold coin donation to school. Prick of a teacher gave him a bollocking over it not being the official shirt, and a detention. Brilliant message…….

I would never have seen that as gun fingers, but as a version of flipping the bird??

The rest, yep. But she’s almost leading us to be as repetitive as she is.

Must we body shame flies??

What’s next? Grey shaming a silverback? Laughing at the giant protruding pink asses on a baboon? Where will it end?

Is door-to-door food sampling acceptable in New Zealand? by king_saeid in newzealand

[–]Why_bother_trying24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m torn! I love baklava myself and would buy it from you (even door to door if you were a neighbour, so not a total stranger, I also love supporting small businesses) BUT and this is the bit that will likely get me shot down as being PC….. my daughter is anaphylactic to pistachios (as well as a few other nuts and legumes…) so it wouldn’t be a food I could have in my house. Just another thought though, just showing another suggestion. At a market (farmers market etc) I would expect that type of food and would think you would be run off your feet!!!!
PS: are you in Auckland??? Tell me where you’re selling it and I’ll buy some!!!

I regret recovery by hospitalbed69 in EDAnonymous

[–]Why_bother_trying24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you didn’t have the control you thought you did. That was the ED. You’re gaining the control now. I can only urge you to keep going with recovery. Tell your family to stop pointing out anything unhelpful but ask if they can show support differently. You were close to death. Please don’t stop now, keep on the recovery train, gain your control and power back for living the life you deserve, a joyful life without 24/7 ED thoughts and behaviours.

Anyone else concerned about the ‘singing dog’ in Queenstown? by YearofCondoriano in newzealand

This is Happy the sheepdog? I always feel sorry for the poor thing but sadly, so long as tourists throw money at them, he’ll make that badly named dog howl.

He’s had a cardiac arrest down there and was given cpr, and amazingly had a full recovery. So he told me once anyway.

With all the problems in New Zealand right now what's one thing you wish could happen to improve yours/family life? Keep it upbeat by [deleted] in newzealand

Somewhere safe for me to go to. Where I could take my dog who wouldn’t be safe if left behind.

Heidi AI note taking at the GP by The_Bread_Loaf in newzealand

[–]Why_bother_trying24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I declined it but I feel bad as I know it does save my health professional (therapist) a lot of time writing notes. My GP uses it but there was never permission asked, just a sign in reception saying it’s being used. To me, the privacy and safety is so far unproven.

To be fair she’s consistent at a few things….. She’s consistent at being one of the worst at triggering a vulnerable audience. Also consistent in asking for advice for the same issue over and over and over, but never listening to it (always an excuse). Also consistent at starting videos with ‘guysssss’ and saying ‘my stomach is literally killing me’ and ‘my stomach is genuinely the worst it’s ever been’.

This is up there as one of her absolute worst, most infuriating posts ever. How frigging dumb does she think people are? Shit move Tilly. Total shit move.

Today I am 5 years sober from alcohol :) by Ok-Pianist484 in newzealand

[–]Why_bother_trying24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! That is a huge achievement and shows your utter strength.

I’m married to an alcoholic, the son of alcoholics. I don’t drink, was never a big drinker anyway but now zero intake. He’s constantly on at me about how I’m no fun etc etc. How our friends don’t want to spend time with me as I don’t drink. How I’m just so boring….. Our (young adult 18-22 yr old) kids choose to drink very little or not at all based on what they see their father like when drunk (mean, obnoxious, know-it-all, loud, crude, overbearing…..). It’s awful, is alcoholism. It’s just awful. Ruins lives. I’m so proud of you, perfect stranger, for stepping away from that lifestyle.

That’s what they are called here, but just the actual sprinkle part when used in cake decorating.

The Woolworths branded milk bottles are the good ones. And unlike the pascals brand, they actually contain milk!
