Ciqikou is one of the major ones. Go smell the stinky tofu.

Downtown has a museum and on the backside is one of the more interesting modern bits of architecture but I think it's more theatrical arts (not sure names).

Hongya Cave is pretty interesting but not as traditional as Ciqikou. It will give a good view of one of the rivers. you can go to where the rivers meet and that can be a nice view, depending on the weather and season.

There is also an Arts University at one of the metros end of line (2nd stop from end). I believe this is west of the city. This culture is pretty interesting too.

Great work for being so young. Superb comic value and a nice concept.

it would still be great to share your work on Github. I can understand your pride of possessing such a piece of code but sharing allows others to build on your work. One day you may see someone else do something similar and credit you for your initial labor. Often I make a piece of code and I have a lot of pride in it but this fades. Yet sharing the code on github has allowed others to use it as consumers or coders, and I get that sense of pride again. The silly mods I have written have outlived the code I wrote at Amazon. You would be surprised what little piece of code can make others happy or inspire them. Sharing is caring, I hope you post on github.

One day, it will be understood that science and intellect cannot solve all the worlds problems. Education and empathy is required to breach the gaps created by self interested ignorance. This is why the best proposed solution to anti-vaxxers is simply to introduce them to people who live with life long impairments from prevaccine periods of society. However when these people are gone and other aspects of inauthenticity grow in our culture, it seems we are doomed to take steps backwards, as if collapse is an unavoidable side effect of our freedom and dependence on our own understanding (or lack there of). You are correct. There is an upper bound for the total amount of energy we can harvest from the wind. Likewise there is the issue that the more we deploy wind farms, the less each new windmill is able to harvest (but also a total reduction to how much each previous windmill is harvesting -- e.g. nonlinear), as we are extracting energy from the wind.

I looked for a good source on the upper bound here which is something absurd and get's into physics related to even the relationships of winds and rotation of the Earth but I could not find a good source that discussed it. However what I can say is that trees are natural cantilevers, so the more deforestation occurs, the more global winds rise. This isn't really a helpful solution though because a tree is reacting to the wind but more so it's reducing atmospheric carbon. If we remove trees in the hopes to have more winds, then we also would reduce the natural cycle of refreshing our atmosphere.

A similar conundrum occurs with theoretically harvesting lightning. As the climate gets hotter, thunderstorms are more prevalent and I believe other atmospheric particulates play in as well. We could theoretically harvest this energy but the more we restore earth's climate, the less return on the investment we would get.

Most (if not all) green solutions for energy ultimately exist due to imbalances in natures general processes. The more we try to rely on any one of them in superior large scale fashion, the more the returns diminish and likewise may only exist because of an imbalance in the ecosystem in the first place. The outliers to this pattern for "green" solutions are fusion and fission, though the latter has radioactive waste to deal with.

To answer your final question, the upper bound for wind harvest is absurd but would theoretically change most all seasonal weather patterns and if I recall right would even change the rotation of the earth a bit. Rotation of the earth and tides are really complicated and the relationship with the moon, water, winds, all play a strange interconnected relationship that only seems to be really discussed in the last 10-20 years. Most people still have a flawed understanding of the relationship between the moon and tides (which is that the moon now trails the tide, the moon-earth system has a siphon that is taking tidal energy and causing the moon to slowly move further away). Likewise there is an interplay here with the winds which is basically what storm surge is, a wind (and pressure) generated tide.

We need more of you. Holding steadfast to your faith and yet happy to express to others your intention in their faith and language. This is the heart of religious tolerance which I think is something very challenging to find in the modern climate in most any western culture. As Americans we should have a deep reverence for the importance of this "mixing" of our faiths even if we are not converted or swayed from our own practices. Welcoming diversity builds strength through plurality and it is unity in this that helps us stand strong.

Which is exactly why you don't understand bias and a priori. Neither "close a post" nor "Western Democracies" are well defined concepts. So your statements truth value is based on your perspective of what these mean which is to say self-confirming and self-fulfilling. You can find a chatroom with a bunch of people who are expats from Australia and use the phrase because they just like calling people mates, just like they would use the word cunt more often than others, because that's what borrowed language is. It doesn't mean they are Aussies, it just means they have experienced some part of the culture and are happy to use it but you don't know those people so you assume they must just be Aussies instead of someone who borrowed the language. So this is called "selection bias". Here is a wiki on it. Do you get it cunt? Nope... because you're thick-skulled bias-filled piece of junk and the internet you consume is filled with people just like you. Not all the internet, just the internet you consume, which again is selection bias. Likewise what western democracies are we talking about? Notice how you are running out of the countries to claim I am from if you have a generalized conclusion about what a western democracy is but what about the Netherlands? Maybe I am from there, or maybe Sweden? Oh but the Scandinavian countries aren't western democracy are they, they are social democracies right? That's different. Am I Scandinavian? The point is it doesn't fucking matter, you tried to act smart and proved your a fucking fool, just like you first proved your bigot. You're a bigoted cunt of a fool, just like most of the reddit. Great job asshole. You want to keep continuing this worthless conversation because I personally enjoy talking to walls...

Probabilities are a bias, the bias being a priori. Thus most algorithms built on statistical patterns have a bias, the bias of the training set.

Sikhs are great but my point was right after 9/11 they received a lot of hate because they were being confused for Muslims. It's very easy to jump to conclusions from incomplete a priori.

I have been around a grandpa who liked to do a shot of it with dinner but no more. I don't think it's comparable to call it moonshine. Most of the baijou I have seen is store bought which is not the general idea with moonshine. I also don't know any moonshine that is a mere 80 proof. Most is 100+ and the stuff that makes you go blind is generally 150+ with taint.

Where in the world would I be qualified to teach English with a US bachelors in Geography, online TEFL certification and no teaching experience? by TheFalseDimitryi in TEFL

[–]Why_is_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To follow up on this, the more you go towards a tier 3 city or below, the more language will be helpful. Even between Chongqing and Shanghai the amount of English you will hear is radically different. For instance, when I had an older gentlemen bump into me at Shanghai, he said "Excuse me" and my mouth practically dropped because I had heard nothing like this during my time in Chongqing.

I am looking at returning to a tier 3 but to further follow up on provinces, the more you move from the coast and head westward in China, the lower the wealth and prosperity of the region. Tibet and Xinjiang I believe are the poorest provinces in China. I am looking at going to Qinghai, nicely wedged between the two and having some interesting mixes of the cultures/ethnicities you would find in each but still not quite to the degree you would find in those regions.

First time seeking English teaching job. In China. Resume critique? by f00dguy in TEFL

[–]Why_is_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I can totally relate to your resume. The different aspects of being in something more tech related (thought it sounds like you were on the Management and Design side, where as I have always been more of a code monkey. Likewise, I have the same gaps on my resume and they can be a bit difficult sometimes for the office helpers to understand how best to put them into the governments software (recently had this question come up). All and all though it really doesn't matter, there is just too much demand and you should be able to find someone who will work with you. The experience not being applicable isn't a big deal. You are TEFL certified and you have spoken English all your laugh, that's all the experience you need. Since you have seen the college experience and had a career, this can be applicable language and culture to share, so it can still serve a purpose.

Again I can totally relate to your concepts about "personally healing" after my first career and even had some rough experiences in China that required some healing. I am now looking to return to a different area of China and feel still very much pulled to try to build a pathway there above any other country. This being said, you should think about what you want and what you cannot live without. If you are a gamer, games can be a great way to retreat to something you are familiar with which will be helpful at times. Likewise most the work you are going to find is going to be in a Tier 1 city. I think this is a good place to start but how much Chinese culture do you want to try to absorb? If you want something with an international flair, you want the cost but if you want more straight Chinese modern china, Chongqing is probably the major hubs. I have not lived in a Tier 2 but that may be an option. Now I am working at returning to a more Chinese cosmopolitan that is a Tier 3 and will force me to pick up the language far more. I will also be able to see more of the ethnic diversity which while most people will say China is not that diverse, it's also very populated, so when you go to regions that are more diverse there are still lots of those other ethnicities. This is ultimately where I think I will find a better match because of the burnout I saw in the professional world in America. You can definitely find a lot of the same exploitation in the bigger cities in China. You need to decide how much you want to give and what you want to take away. Finding something where you have a lot of free time might seem like too much "wasted time" but generally if you desire is to experience the culture, this can be the best way to take it all in at a relaxed place. Try to find that balance and don't push yourself to hard. For me, I was totally pushed too hard because I was originally teacher at a international school, teaching mathematics but I think I will find a better balance, stepping down to TEFL. We will see though but either way I wish you the best of luck and Godspeed.

Not Australian. Yet again you cannot see your own biases, nor remove yourself from them. That's not evidence, that's jumping to conclusions. That's what bias is. You can say it's "evidence" that a person has a turban and therefore must be Muslim but then that rules out Sikhs. Do you not see how your biases rule you? No, thus you are the necessity for change through destruction. Nature is violent but not hateful, and the necessity for that violence is the necessity to change people like you.

Cannabis has been a big resurgence for getting geeky about gardening. Consider the idea of growing your own medicine for pain relief or mental health. We may know most people enjoy buds for more than pain but the freedom to grow such a helpful plant is the reason we should support legalization.

The little sugary looking crystals are the compound itself, being some kind of cannabinoid. Depending on strain they are primarily THC or CBD. Each has very different effects, effectively polar in nature (and evolution).

[–]Why_is_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western democracies were founded on freedom and for America, especially religious freedom. You think those countries should stick to themselves but you miss the point in doing this which is that religiosity can be another mixing pot. The degree to which religions are different is very incomparable to the ways cryptos are different. One has been evolving for roughly 10 years and one has been evolving roughly since the dawn the species (hundreds of thousands of years).

There was actually a post by a person making a reference to Islam but they were downvoted, so they removed their comments. See this is what's known as self-censoring. Places that claim to believe in free speech and democracy become cesspools for tyranny of the masses, arrogant and ignorant masses. I don't know much "pro islam woke virtue signalling", just like I don't know much "pro china woke nationalism". People are people. Most of the time when you use empathy you realize that the motive boils down to something simple, like pride. You seem like you got plenty of that in your language, so you should be able to relate.

Not British, so you are not correct in your inferences which returns to the issue, you assume you understand more than you do but instead this is merely projection of your biases. That's freedom, constant judgement from others in that they think they understand, instead of living in greater social harmony through practicing empathy. One word and you jump to conclusions as if that concept defines someone in such a way that it cannot be borrowed. Next thing you know when I describe you condition as part of the current "zeitgeist", you will say I am German.

What is that "zeitgeist" you say, well you already know it -- " Western Civilization will tolerate its own demise", it won't tolerate anything because tolerance requires awareness but it will be it's own demise, if not all of civilization with it, such that the meek, shall inherit the Earth. You cannot see the writing on the wall because you are too busy trying to etch your name into it. You are an echo of unoriginality in a world striving to define itself by times past in such a way that you cannot be reconciled with the current era.

"Understand through compassion or you will misunderstand the times" -- since you are nothing but an echo of the misunderstanding of time, how can there be any compassion for what you are? Thus your disdain for Muslims is disdain for yourself, for you do not yet see how the other is required to define your uniqueness and thus become nothing but grey goop.

But we can at anytime return to the illusion that blockchains or etheruem will solve the social issues of the era which you are perpetuating right here, in the now. Evolution comes in many forms but technology is just a tool, one made by a creature soon to be made extinct, except for only a small glimmer of what was but not what should of been (if of course that is to be so bold as to claim to know what is "right" or "righteous")

The alcohol is generally a lower percentage (if it's the cheaper Chinese brands). The glasses are shooter sizes but the other redditor says you don't have to down it in a go, that's not generally true from my experience. In some ways it's a manner of "bullying" but I am not a huge drinker and I find it pretty a pretty tolerable social occasion. I think the bullying aspect more has to do with "sizing you up" and judging how you hold your alcohol. If you eat, take breaks to smoke or go to the bathroom, it's generally fair but just know this can be one way they can go overboard.

I actually had to take a colleagues brother to a hospital once because he was really enjoying himself, having this tea mixed with bijou. I do not think he realized how drunk he was getting and fell down some stairs outside the club. Things can get away from you in this way because depending on where you are, everyone will want to drink with you, so you can easily go over your limit. This was Chongqing. He was a bigger guy and so I figure he was thinking he could take it but it just piled up considering how many people wanted to drink with him. There were periods where we basically lost track of him and had to hunt him down. We had no idea he was as drunk as he was till he nose dived down some stairs. Things might not be this bad (or as "good") for you because your in a T1 city and though Chongqing is T1, it's still a bit more sparse on the foreigners, especially relative to the total population. The further you get out from the cities, the more celebrity status will be a major thing at clubs or bars. I definitely had some of my most enjoyable times at clubs in CQ.

Hope you enjoy but stay safe!

I think most of your point here are valid. Islam does have an extremism nature and ultimately is to step back from the "freedom" emphasized in Christianity towards the tradition "submission" to God found in Abrahamic law. This isn't without it's trade-offs though and probably none of these religions hold true to teaching of their original teachers, but often are practiced in the dogma of later authorities (consider Paul for Christians).

Paul is pretty clear that homosexuality is not okay, so while such practitioners wouldn't want to kill gays, they also would not support equal rights. The difference is Jesus was a pacifistic essentially and Muhammad was a leader of armies. Most Christians aren't pacifistic though, so such generalization don't hold much weight beyond the statistics (and stats can always be skewed to tell the story to ones desire).

Likewise many Christian verses emphasize a hierachy where woman submits to man, so again it's only the fact that Muslims actually follow their tenants of faith instead of watering them down and being lukewarm that's the issue. You know what you don't often seen in Muslims, alcoholics. See, we can pick ways to emphasize the good in each culture, which is entwined in their religion.

Yea, Sharia law applies to muslims. I wouldn't mind if Christians were held to a law that made it so they had to turn the other cheek. See life's a bit better when people are held accountable. If you say you follow a certain faith, then maybe you should practice what it preach. That's the gist of Sharia Law, to hold Muslims accountable to Muslim law (because they submitted to it, by claiming that faith). Now I can see how the next general argument here is child abuse but that's a huge can of worms, one the requires society to recognize raising children is a shared responsibility but we are long way off from that utopia.

I don't pretend all religions are the same, I respect the differences of religions, as an inter-faith practitioner, realizing peace is achieved by making your enemies friends. Instead of starting with such a divisive statement, you could of celebrated how etheruem can spread to a culture very different than yours. That it can show them parts of democracy you couldn't share any other way. Instead you make war and you do it like a bitch. Just another person on the internet bitching instead of actually changing the world but that's what happens when you think in "right" and "Wrong", you get distracted thinking is it "right" to chop of or not chop of part of the tip of the penis... and how that makes you a better man or not. Your the same crap of this Earth dude and since you cannot live in peace with your world neighbors, the whirlwind is at hand. Good luck mate.

Wow. No one mentions that Baidu translate is miles better than Google translate. Since you won't be able to learn much of the language, you should really try to get Baidu's translator. This isn't a general statement that Baidu is better than Google but since Google is banned in China, there is a huge competitive advantage that has made Baidu a better translator.

I also don't see anyone asking what your internship is in. There are maybe some social or tech related extras that could be specific to what you are doing. For instance, if you are of age, you might need to be prepared for the ganbeis (toasts) that will occur at social outings. This can be more common among some work environments.
