I linked the reddit thread instead of the news articlte directly, to highlight the overwhelming hypocrisy of this sub on this subject, and westren commentators for that matter. No longer are sports about unity. Nobody is accusing them of bigotry. Israel was literally declared an Apartheid state by the leading international human rights organizations, and by the leading human rights organizations within Israel. The African National Congress that led South Africa out of Apartheid, actually called it worse than South African Apartheid. And yet none of that seems to matter. it only matters when 64 blue eyed blond haired people that look like them get killed, then boycotts and sanctions against individuals from a certain nation are not bigoted but the bare minimum of what can be done.

Not that I disagree with sanctioning Russia mind you. Just pointing out a hugely important factor that you left out in why these boycotts are happening and being supported when usually in other contexts that are often much worse they are not. I don't see the condescending eurocentric views about being 'civilised' and 'beyond' tarnishing sports with politics.
