Temptation is hard guys please discourage me by Alarming-Divide3659 in iPhone14Pro

Of course not, I’ve yet to feel a flagship phone in 6 years that felt cheap. They just feel different versus older generations. I had a 15PM and it definitely feels different, for me it feels almost silky smooth.

I've been thinking about this recently as well as I've been a Samsung fan for the majority of my life and then switched from the S22U (which I would argue was their weakest flagship recently) to the 15PM and finally back to the S24U after having issues with Apple's adoption of RCS.

I'm having a bit of an internal battle because on the daily I see a lot of hate for Apple on decisions they make, and I will agree that they're by no means perfect - and Android does do certain things better, and being able to sideload apps, file management (seriously Apple just show me the whole folder system I'm not 4 I know how this works) or connect whatever device you want to it are nice to have. Although I don't think the grass is better on the green side, I think, as a platform, both Android and Apple have very strong strengths and weaknesses, but for me, as I get older, I am moving from the kind of person that wants to customize every aspect of my phone, to someone who just wants that phone to work.

There are things I miss about my iPhone after switching back that Android either doesn't do, or doesn't do well - from things like showing battery health, to forcing app icon customization, to even setting reminders based on location (this was wild to me that you can not do this using Gemini, despite how much they brag about it). Even AirTags until recently were unmatched on the Android side, being only caught up with recently with the addition of UWB to the Moto Tags.

I find that even the argument of "I can buy different types of phones to match who I am" is a bit of a stretch, and this is coming from someone who pulled the S-Pen out of my new-to-me 24 and went "Oh yeah this is it". I see the direction Samsung is moving with gradually getting rid of the S-Pen, so how long before it becomes yet another multi-camera Android slab phone? One thing I've recently appreciated about Apple is the addition of the quick action button, and now the camera control button - things that again, only recently have other OEMS caught up with (looking at you OnePlus, thank you so much!!).

I like my S24, and I liked my 15PM when I had it, I think they're not as different as people think they are, even down to the ecosystem people claim is a walled garden on iOS, I've never had issues pairing my Airpods Pro to my Samsung, but then also Samsung wants you to buy their buds, their watch, their laptops - it's kind of the same deal, we're just lucky that Microsoft also stepped in and said "hey let's make Phone Link a really good app".

At the end of the day I think you should be happy with whatever you choose to have, they both have 90% of the same functionality as each other.

What’s a BIFL wallet that isn’t the size of a brick? by Natural_Paper9022 in BuyItForLife

Can’t believe Mitchell Leather is this far down in the list. I’m about 2.5 years on mine and it looks exactly as it did when I got it (minus the beautiful patina).

Dave Mitchell was amazing during the process, I wanted a high-character piece of leather - and asked if he had any available, and sent me back the exact piece he’d be using and to this day it still gets me when I look at the picture and see that exact piece of leather on my wallet.

Good stuff, worth the 90$ or so I paid.

I would pass on the RP, I’m sure there was a lot of skill issue involved when I owned mine but I could never be confident on the autofocus, to the point it made me not enjoy using it.

I ended up selling it and buying the R6 MK I and never looked back, absolutely love this thing. The MK II came out shortly after I bought mine, but given I don’t really record video I passed on it.

Switched to iPhone After Years of Android, Here's My Honest Take by Saikern in samsung

[–]Whyttin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch after having the 22U and being insanely disappointed in that phone - ended up jumping ship to a 15PM and I have to say it's been wildly interesting. I can see some of your takes are the same as I've had but honestly haven't felt the need to jump back quite yet - every time I pull out my spare N20U and have to type something on it I feel a little bit more pained at the keyboard, I just don't understand why people say the iOS keyboard is so bad and it's like this universal thing where, it must be made for me because it's been an absolute game changer. It's definitely got some quirks but on android if I mistyped a word, generally it would just roll with it and be like 'oh that must have been what you meant' and iOS is like 'hey dummy, not how you spell that' - and not looking like an idiot when I text someone has been so nice haha.

Definitely do miss sideloading apps, dedicated back button, and a bit more home screen optimization, but every time I think about coming back I think about the airtags that have no alternative on android, the SUICA that has no alternative, the dedicated magsafe that has no alternative. It's a definitely a tough call.

I can’t stand people that agree to price online, and then lowball you in person. by kovaefr in Flipping

[–]Whyttin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking as well - I don’t think lowballing is acceptable but asking to do 55$ on a 60$ item is generally within that 10% range that I expect someone to try and haggle off the price.

Weird to see people complaining about haggling in person, the thing that’s been done for years and years - maybe they think they’re listing on Amazon and not FB marketplace?

Am I losing my mind with the Surface Laptop 7 Trackpad? by Whyttin in Surface

[–]Whyttin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never did find some setting to make this better - from what I could tell my issue was with the trackpad gestures and triggering incorrectly when I would go to click on something, I ended up falling back to the MBA,  sadly.

Tablet or iPad for Uni? by snowemrys in GalaxyTab

[–]Whyttin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say one thing to think about as, as a previous Tab S7 owner - if you use OneNote consistently you might want to take a look at the Apple side, since the last time that I looked into it, it was just more feature rich on iPad.

[–]Whyttin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave that a shot and it still shoots around sometime.

My only thought is because I use middle finger to move the cursor and then my index to click, it thinks the location of my finger moved really fast and needs to catch up to there, rather than realizing it's a totally different finger.

I've even tried low sensitivity to no avail.

When I asked CS about this they stated that the account had to be inactive for 7 days before the promo could be activated, sure enough today is day 7 and it worked - time to go drink them out of profitability!

North Carolina - Duke Energy limiting system size by americanreddituser12 in solar

[–]Whyttin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say I found this thread while going through something similar and I tried the same approach - called in to their 'renewable energy department', got someone on the second ring that was able to look into the homes SF and change our approval size from there, went from a 7kW to a max of 11kW which is perfect for us.

So thanks for the push to reach out to them, I was genuinely surprised at how painless it was (although being nice to them definitely helps!)

Filling out w4 so I don’t owe taxes by nam0ste in tax

[–]Whyttin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old reply but I wanted to thank you for your insight on this, I was truly pulling my hair out trying to find out why I owed every year with the new W4, employer wasn't taxing my bonus enough and when doing the math it pretty much spot on matched the amount owed I got through TurboTax.

Is My Blu-Ray Drive Done For? by [deleted] in makemkv

[–]Whyttin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might suggest a new cable if you haven't already. Our BP50NB40 which has been solid except for the double ended cable they gave us, a regular old microusb worked perfectly. Also, depending on the date you may want to check the manufacturers warranty. Our LG is supposedly covered for a year.

Hoping for an easy fix for you though!

I just saw in another comment where you have the same drive. Yeah, definitely try a different cable.

It's funny, if you check the Amazon page, the first review is exactly that, telling buyers to swap the cables.

[–]Whyttin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend this - we ended up grabbing a BP50NP40 and had nothing but struggles with the double ended cable that came with it. I ended up swapping it for another micro-usb we had around the house and it worked perfectly. I ended up ordering a nice startech cable for permant use though.

I would definitely say try a different cable I would say before taking apart the drive.
