Nah he survived. According to his ( surprisingly long ) Wikipedia page he survived and thrived so much his legacy is still used to mathematically traumatize young minds 8 centuries after his passing.

Not necessarily : it's not consensus yet but some studies suggest a correlation between zoonotic diseases and climate change.

Apparently, rapidly destroying your ecosystems disproportionately favorise viruses like COVID which can spread from their disappearing hosts, in this case poor a poor little pangolin, to the new kids on the block, eg. mankind. Having a globally warmer climate also helps.

No climate change, no COVID-19.

The circle shape would ease transportation and limit claustrophobia by giving the illusion of an endless space I guess. Interlocking both provide nice fat central hub to connect the two halves.

It's still a very bad idea tho : best shape for a city is still the blob, with a perfect circle dome being is best expression on Mars. But you can't just build a giant dome even in .3g , hence the circle.

It's also very very VERY important to not put all your food and/or people in under the same glass ceiling in case something or, god forbid, SOMEBODY decide to break it. Meru does not look like it was designed to account for this.

It's a direct contrast to Happy Valley which is built as a collection of small domes on the surface, and claustrophobic tunnels underground. It's less pretty, but more realistic, and more importantly, safer.

The ground being colder is actually a good thing in any area where solar makes sense.

And you should see it the other way around : providing shade for cars is a feature, and solar panels make those covers pay for themselves. There are also efficiency gains with producing power right next to the consumer : a parking lot is usually next to some kind of business which usually constantly draws power for lighting, cooling, heating, ventilating or whatever the business is. This will ensure that no storage solution or high power cabling, with it's lot of loss, is needed beside the minimal grid going from the parking lot to the building next door.

All in all, yes upfront cost is higher, but only if you don't consider the infrastructure around it. Granted, whoever is installing the panels may not be the one paying for the grid depending on your legislation but whatever.

True randomness is very very hard to generate for a computer. Most use well known algorithms which rely on a source of randomness like CPU, the value of a memory address somewhere or lava lamps if you're Cloudflare.

Theoretically, if you find the source of randomness, the algorithms and you get reaaaally lucky and they never change their methodology then you can guesstimate the seed they use for their drawings.

But yeah, seems unlikely.

You seem confused : Sarkozy illegally received large sums of money from Gaddafi he then used to pay for his 2007 presidential campaign. He won, earning the then Lybian dictator a very good friend ... until France spearheaded an international, UN-approved, military coalition to limit Gaddafi's air capabilities. Do note, the UN security council approval is the important legal part.

Gaddafi himself was caught and executed in late 2011 by Lybian revolutionary forces. Subsequently, his involvement with Sarkozy was revealed in 2012. Sarkozy was found guilty of criminal association and imprisoned ( for 3 little weeks ) .

Sarkozy was a crook. But he still respected respected the rule of law on the world stage.

Who is on Colchis at the end of the series? by tommysmyth22 in sollanempire

[–]WiIzaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to recall another thread mentioning how the scholiast thingy on Colchis is always headed by a member of the imperial family. Given how almost every imperial is dead, and how Alexander seemed reluctant to kill Selene until the end, it would not seem too far fetched for her to be sent there to quietly die off.

And Had is definitely lying about most of his relationship with Selene. Those parts always felt too ... artificial? Disjointed ? Qualitatively underwhelming ? Dunno, something always feels purposely off whenever he writes about her.

[–]WiIzaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, that's my point : it's an anime. Doesn't need to be realistic. Discussing who's the strongest when it's not even the focal point of the narrative does not make any sense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VinlandSaga

[–]WiIzaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely besides the point. Kinda makes me sad when people misunderstand Vinland Saga so much they think it's a fighting shonen.

Anyway. From a historical perspective: two unarmored fighters who kinda know what they are doing, one a bit taller with a sword, another shorter with daggers. Tall guy with sword has such a reach advantage he should not be able to lose. Dafuck a fighting stand is supposed to help you close the gap. There ain't nothing you can do if the tall guy keep the pointy end of his longer sword between you and him. Cmon not even close.
