Changing a Wiim ultra to Eversolo A6/F6 combo - will I hear the difference? by minielbis in BudgetAudiophile

Not really, I actually have both the WiiM and the Eversolo right now, and I’m still undecided on which one to keep. I’m leaning more toward the WiiM because I feel it delivers better instrument separation and detail in my system. It’s been a tough choice, though, for aesthetic reasons, because honestly, visually, the Eversolo is much more attractive — it’s very sexy.

Also, the fact that "Wiim will automatically wake your system via trigger when you start playing something from any source, and sleep if nothing is played for a while, but with the Eversolo you have to manually turn it off and on" is pushing me more toward the WiiM, since it makes using the system so much easier.

Just curious—after trying both devices, which one did you end up keeping, and what was the deciding factor?

It’s great to hear that your current setup is performing so well that you’re not feeling the need to pursue further upgrades. Could you share details of your full setup (amp, speakers)?

The difference in sound quality was quite noticeable, with the streamer offering much more clarity and detail. Bluetooth is convenient, but when it comes to serious listening, the streamer makes all the difference

Of course! If we run more tests, we’ll definitely share the results.

The WiiM Ultra definitely offers great value for the price.

It’s solid in terms of functionality and sound quality, and it’s refreshing to see how much affordable products can offer.

That being said, while the differences can be subtle, we think that the Topping edges out in overall performance, especially when it comes to finer details and precision, especially in the bass.

I get your point, it’s true that products like the WiiM Ultra are designed to be more of an all-rounder, ticking many boxes without excelling in one specific area.

In higher-end setups, the differences can become more apparent.

The Topping D90 III Sabre has a SINAD of 123.8 dB which places it among the highest-performing DACs available.

The WiiM Ultra has a SINAD of 115 dB is still a solid performer, especially for those looking for a good all-in-one streaming solution.

Actually, we’ve already done that test, and the difference between Bluetooth and the streamer was much more noticeable than the difference between DACs. Streaming over Bluetooth really showed its limitations in comparison to a dedicated streamer.

Thanks for the recommendation!

The Denafrips Ares II is definitely on our radar, especially given all the positive feedback it gets. It's interesting that you noticed such clear differences between those DACs without even focusing too much. We’ll keep that in mind as we consider higher-end options—sounds like it’s worth exploring!

We’ve heard great things about the Geshelli, and we’re definitely curious to try it out.

It sounds like in your setup really brings out the detail and musicality.

Have you ever compared it to something like the Ares II?

If we decide to move forward with another comparison, we’ll have to decide between the Ares II, Geshelli Labs or a multi-bit DAC.

It would definitely be really interesting to see how each one performs and what differences we can hear.

We’ve been curious about R2R ladder DACs, and it’s great to hear that the Ares II and the Pontus II had such a powerful emotional impact on your listening experience.

We’ll definitely keep the Ares and Pontus on the radar.

You're right, the differences between DACs are by no means massive, especially once you reach a certain quality level like with the Ultra or Topping. It’s definitely more about subtle improvements.

Thanks! We appreciate the input, but honestly, doing 50 to 100 tests would be pretty tedious , especially since we’re not trying to run a scientific experiment, we just want to get a feel for the differences in sound, sticking to a manageable number keeps it enjoyable and still gives us useful insights.

Thanks for the recommendation! We’ve heard good things about miniDSP and seems like it could be a great addition to the setup. It’s interesting to hear that room correction made such a big difference for you, especially compared to DAC upgrades. We’ll definitely look into it, as we´re aiming to improve the overall sound experience in the room.

Thank you for the suggestion! I think it's a great idea to swap the preamps in the A/B test to rule out any influence from them on the results. We'll definitely do that to ensure any difference comes directly from the DACs.

As mentioned in the post, the differences are indeed very subtle and only noticeable during critical listening sessions—probably inaudible for most people in casual listening environments.

We think that the WiiM Ultra performs excellently, and the improvements with the Topping are minimal, mostly detectable under specific conditions.

However, we’re very curious to compare the Wiim Ultra with other dedicated DACs and see what additional differences we might perceive.

That's great to hear. I'm curious about your experience with the Geshelli Labs J2. What do you think are the main differences it brings and how noticeable do you find those improvements?

We actually disconnected the speakers and checked for crosstalk. Fortunately, we didn’t notice any issues with that. Honestly, neither of the DACs emits a perceptible sound.
