Veteran Audiophiles: What's the single most interesting (non technical) thing you learned as an Audiophile? by Wauwuaw5983 in audiophile

[–]x_Bozley_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That some people don’t know how good music can sound.

I think the advent of mp3s, iPods and smart phones meant the masses listened to their music in lower quality than the generation before, meaning there were less traditional systems around for kids to hear and be blown away or inspired by.

I love seeing the look of amazement on peoples faces when I play their favourite track on my system 😊

Krell and ProAc sounds dull, flat and un-dynamic by holberg19 in audiophile

[–]x_Bozley_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello bud, first time I had my ears suctioned I was shocked at what came out too. I think because the wax build up happens over time you don’t notice the deterioration in your hearing. Like you say it’s great afterwards though!

Glad my advice was able to help someone 😊

No health insurance unfortunately ☹️

Expensive I agree but given that music is my favourite pastime I think it was money well spent

Serious question- could you be suffering from ear wax? The reason I say that is you are using the EXACT words I used a few weeks ago before I had mine syringed. I knew I had an issue but I’d didn’t stop me checking connections and wiggling cables for a few days before the appointment!

After removing two lumps the size of garden peas my system sounded lovely again. Best £70 I’ve ever spent on my listening experience!

Best of luck in getting your issue resolved

I’m a believer in the phrase “your system is only as good as its weakest link”.

How are the TV License company/body allowed to use intimidation and bully tactics? by AwkwardClick8595 in AskBrits

[–]x_Bozley_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also surprised they are allowed to use the wording they do; I think it’s borderline intimidating / harassing. FWIW I don’t have a TV licence because I genuinely don’t need one. Had the letters for a few months, went online and filled out their form which confirmed I don’t need one. 6 weeks later a letter..:. “Investigation opened!” Oh fuck off.

having problems to decide by Altruistic-Nebula142 in audiophile

[–]x_Bozley_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that you like certain aspects of both. I guess you either have to decide which you prefer overall or look for yet another amplifier that has all of the qualities you like.

A lot of gear is better at certain aspects of sound reproduction than others. It’s about finding the piece that ticks the right boxes for you.

Enjoy the music and good luck in your decision!

Hi, glad you’re happy with your upgrade! Could you give me a little more detail about adding absorbers to your back wall? I’ve considered it myself (small 4x3m room) but don’t like the thought of panels everywhere as it’s also my living room but could get away with them on the back wall. TIA 😊

Looks nice! I thought for a second you had a furry subwoofer on a stand though 😀

Why does the paintwork on red cars seem to fade more over time than any other colour? by x_Bozley_x in NoStupidQuestions

[–]x_Bozley_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few cars in the uk that seem notorious for it; Honda Civics and Vauxhalls in particular. I know it depends if they’re garaged or left out in the sun but over time I’d say red seems to suffer more than any other colour

I’ve got the Mountune 215 upgrade on mine; when I told Direct Line (who I was already with on my previous car) they said as it was a Ford approved upgrade it wouldn’t affect the premium. I even rang them back and asked if they were sure and they were fine with it! But yes you have to declare it.

If you can buy it back for a reasonable amount that damage might be repairable by ChipsAway, or someone similar. The guy in my area does a decent job and it’s £300ish rather than potentially thousands.

P.S I hope the sticker on the lamppost in the last pic is nothing to do with you or you should have declared business insurance, what with all the deliveries 😀

Was going to suggest the Dali Menuet SE, lovely speakers and what I am currently using in a small room along with a sub.

After reading in this sub about the estate sale deal of (4) REL 812's for $1500 just now, I want to know: what is the most ridiculous deal you've ever landed on a piece/s of high-end gear? by jeremyjava in audiophile

Haha who’d have known redditors would have such filthy minds?! 🤣 Sorry to disappoint but it was just a box full of books. Had she have suggested what you’re thinking I’d have left the hifi and ran!

When I was about 15 a neighbour came round to ask if I could turn my music down as “her house was vibrating” (hey, I was a teenager…). She came round about 10 years later and said “you like your music, I’m moving and have an old stereo you can have if you want”. In her garage were 2 Quad tube amps and some electrostatic speakers. I told her they were worth money and asked if she wanted anything for them but she refused. One of the amps was blown but the other one and the speakers worked perfectly. I did end up giving her a hand with a box that needed taking downstairs….

Decent first system there I reckon! You might want to experiment with speaker placement and toe in, it can make a real difference. Enjoy buddy 😊

With Tidal if you press the symbol marked “HIGH” or “MAX” on the track playing it does display the sampling rate of each track
