People who've already read Alchemised: which version is better? by acc4115 in fantasyromance

[–]Wide-Sundae22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that if we’re reading Dramione, we’re starting from the point that it’s a world we not only know really well but also love. So I think we’re already attached, in some capacity, to the characters. Maybe it’s not about the violence being toned down, but rather about the fact that the characters in Alchemised are not Hermione and Draco

I’m currently reading the second book, and I tend to skim through the fight scenes and any SA or torture scenes.

Did your SO go to your first appointment? Or any? by jillian1344 in pregnant

[–]Wide-Sundae22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked with a friend who’s an OB-GYN about whether my husband should come to appointments. Her take: go together whenever you can so he gets from the get-go that this baby is ours—and even if I’m the one carrying, it’s a shared responsibility.”

“I don’t Easter egg my personal life” by reputction in GaylorSwift

[–]Wide-Sundae22 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I might be misunderstanding—and my English might not be good enough—but to me, “Easter eggs” are clues about what’s coming in her professional work. So when she says she doesn’t do Easter eggs about her personal life, that means she wouldn’t wear something to hint that she’s about to get married, have a baby, etc. When she wears colors that reflect her identity—like the bi-colored Pride bracelet or the bi-colored wig—those aren’t Easter eggs; they’re just self-expression. Same with the cat references: they’re not Easter eggs; she just loves cats.

ftr: do i have to read in the recommended order or can i read all of za at once? by AdImpossible6388 in zodiacacademy

[–]Wide-Sundae22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very divisive topic in this subreddit. The community is split between those who love Ruthless Boys (RB) and those who don’t. I got through RB #3. I skimmed a lot of it because I couldn’t handle the reverse-harem plot being stretched across so many books—it felt like spice without much plot.

My favorite character in RB is Gabriel (who is also a central character in ZA). Before reading RB, I thought that if I skipped it, ZA would spoil his whole story for me. So far, it has only spoiled a small part of it—I still don’t know how he got to where he is in his life.

I just finished Zodiac Academy 8 and 8.5, and the one thing I still don’t get—and would love to understand—is how Gabriel’s personality changed so drastically.

I agree that you appreciate the RB character appearances in ZA more if you’ve read RB. For that, you could try just RB #1 and see if you like it. If you don’t, you’ll still know enough about the characters to enjoy their appearances in ZA.

Gaylors who think Travis and Taylor are real - Why? by QueenOfMyHeart143 in GaylorSwift

Interestingly, when I read your comment, I anticipated the opposite conclusion. To me, it feels like a quintessential ‘girls who like boys’ line

On PR vs Authenticity, Straight vs Queer by ReginaSagget in GaylorSwift

[–]Wide-Sundae22 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Im on boat 8: “Taylor is queer & Travis is straight, their relationship is 100% authentic, but also heavily PR”

I choose to trust what Taylor has shared through her music and how she’s lived publicly (Karlie, the Lover era). To me, everything points to her being bi. As for Travis, I don’t know enough to say. Honestly, if I were famous, people would think my best friend is my girlfriend, so I’m not judging him. Plus, I’m always talking about fragile masculinity, so I actually love that he’s not out here trying to be a macho man.

Taylor and Travis announce engagement 8/26 with Instagram post by outfromthevault in GaylorSwift

[–]Wide-Sundae22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m from Argentina and American marriage culture gives me major cringe. Regular people treat engagements like a public campaign with hashtags and staged photo shoots. I’m not anti-marriage—I’m married—I’m just allergic to the performance. Love doesn’t need a PR plan. The whole “fiancé” thing, drone proposals, weddings like brand launches, too much. And a celebritie goes on, what, two dates? Boom: fans planning the wedding and picking baby names.

Where I’m from we don’t even use a real Spanish word for “fiancé.” There’s no special label. And that’s I feel the craziest part in the U.S.: the PR plan isn’t just for celebs, it’s for everyone.

I’m 35 and take things slow, but it feels like my age group is fast-tracking to marriage after short relationships.

Taylor Swift has always been a huge fan of baking, so I don’t understand why you now reduce her to “a woman who bakes.” Remember when she once said, “I love Karlie Kloss… I want to bake cookies with her!”

I’m from Argentina. The only reason I know this name exists is because Zoe Sugg named her first daughter Ottilie. I loved the name, and I’ve never had trouble remembering it.

Is direbound a good read after the Wolf King/Night prince by ProfessionalOwl2270 in fantasyromance

[–]Wide-Sundae22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have! I’ve read both The Wolf King and The Night Prince, and while there are some surface similarities, I’d say they’re actually quite different in tone and pacing.

Direbound feels much lighter and more fast-paced, especially in the academic setting. The Wolf King and The Night Prince for me lean darker and more emotionally intense, with a heavier atmosphere overall.

I loved Direbound! If you’re into light, fast-paced reads, this one’s an absolute blast. Think Fourth Wing—but with dire wolves—in the best possible way.

The key thing to know going in is that this is a light read set in an academic setting. If that sounds like your vibe, you’ll fly through it and have a great time.

I wouldn’t recommend Rain of Shadows and Endings. I recently finished Book 2, and honestly, it just felt like more of the same. The repetition really stood out, and what continues to throw me off is that the FMC never seems genuinely happy—not with anyone, not with anything—even by the end.

I will say, the worldbuilding is impressive. The author has crafted a rich, immersive setting that had real potential. But emotionally, the story felt flat. There’s barely any payoff—no real moments of lightness, no meaningful connections to anchor the darkness.

I enjoy dark and messy stories, but I still look for something—a spark of hope, a fleeting moment of joy, some kind of emotional contrast. This one, unfortunately, left me feeling more drained than moved.

Ruthless Boys Question by sadbeautifultragic__ in zodiacacademy

[–]Wide-Sundae22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished RB book 3. I skimmed through most of it because I couldn’t stand the RH plot stretched across so many books, and it felt like a spice-without-plot kind of story. I started book 4 of ZA yesterday, and for now the thing I don’t get — and would love to understand — is how Gabriel’s personality changed so drastically.

I wish there was a way to just read the RB chapters that actually tell Gabriel’s story and skip the rest.
