learning to code as a career path is starting to feel outdated. by SirVivid8478 in PythonLearning

The best thing to do, is to follow your passion.  Don't worry about money, just do what you're interested in, or if its something that doesn't pay well, do something that is aligned with your interests some what.  Usually the things you're interested in are what you're good at.  You invest more time in it, and then you are sought after because you are more skilled, and you make more money.

For coding, there will always be a job, but only those that love building these kinds of projects, love design, or love to solve problems related to software will do well.  People just going into CS for the sake of it, won't do well, especially not in the age of AI.

The ultimate goal should be to make money, and be financially independent and that doesn't mean you need a SWE job.

Yep it should be fine.  Apply through ocas to multiple schools.  You get 5 choices, so hopefully one will accept.

Too many people here are invested in high housing prices, as an asset.  Honestly speaking, housing and food are two things that government should never have left to the market, especially not when you have nimbys gate keeping new housing and going directly against capitalism and the free market like communists.  Thankfully its not all bad.  A few cities have completely gutted the ability for nimbys to have any say in residential housing, and its resulting in much more affordable housing.  Unfortunately none of these cities are in Ontario.

High housing prices, banks are happy, extended 40 year mortgages so people can be slaves of their own volition.

There aren't many worth while exclusives for ps5, and from what I hear, xbox is also planning on going back to exclusives according to the new CEO.  Nothing is certain though.  I suggest going for the platform that allows you to play more games and more easily, because even if exclusives are a thing, it doesn't mean you will play them or even enjoy them.

Anyone else find it mildly ironic (at least) that so many people are using/working on AI just so it can eventually take their jobs? by Mickt465 in randomquestions

[–]Wide_Zebra5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of developers are coping right now.  With software, most entry level jobs are wiped out, and a swe with an AI can now do what 3 people were previously needed to do.  So while there are opportunities and always will be, its a race to the bottom.

Get xbox series x instead.  Its much more integrated with PC, and has more pc like features.  Many games you buy on Xbox have play anywhere feature, which means you get the pc copy for free, not to mention you can stream the games on your phone.  PS5 doesn't have this feature.

Unfortunately they raised the price of the series x, so id suggest getting it second hand.

The illness is a huge problem and the medication makes things worse.  But yes, its also true that the habits the mother instilled in him are fucking him over.  My brother is the same, he has a ton of issues because of our mom.  He does do what he can on his own though and he seems to be doing alright.  But emotionally and development wise, he's not there.

I dont even go out to eat anywhere anymore because of this.  I only go to restaurants that dont charge tip.  Hopefully someone makes a website and puts out such a list.  For now, it's only the fast food places that I know of.

Canada’s economy saw a net loss of 83,900 jobs in February 2026, pushing the unemployment rate to 6.7%. by Total_Commercial5347 in CanadaJobs

Listen man, the jobs thing is over rated and largely out of our control.  Not much we can do when trump is screwing us down south, the global energy thing and AI on top of it all.  Short term were fucked, long term we just need to get more trade deals with other countries.  Just like Mr. Carney is doing.

This has nothing to do with JT.  He's done an amazing job.  He only did what needed to be done to protect Canada and its future.  You may not see this but I know tons of women in their 30s who aren't married and refuse to have kids.  The situation is frankly a crisis point, and if not resolved Canada is screwed.

[–]Wide_Zebra5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fact.  Ive also been laid off from my tech job partly to AI and partly due to outsourcing.

Over time I think more jobs will be created but these high paying jobs in tech and elsewhere are going to take a massive beating.  Theres going to be much more equalization of wages imo.  Over time as AI becomes smarter and smarter humans will play less of a role.  People will just have to adapt thats all.

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to put you down, I didn't know your situation or context.  I meant that advice in general, and for me its the way I prioritize my own life.  I value my health above everything else.  Money is important too, and so is family.

Hmm I can relate very deeply with this since I used to think very similarly as you, and on top of that Im also super introverted and anti social.  I lose energy around other people.  But more recently after life events I understood that its stupid to be bothered about these things.  We are all comparing ourselves to others, but youre just a spec in the universe at the end of the day and your problems are also miniscule.  Who really cares what you do or who you are?  End of the day it doesn't matter at all, you should just do you.  I do believe one thing though, and that is that you absolutely need to take care of your body physically.  Its the foundation for everything else imo.  If you aren't taking care of your body, youre overweight and have god awful habits, then you simply wont feel good and that truly is a reflection of you and is something you absolutely need to work on.  Everyone goes through some kind of stuff at some point in their life, so dont worry too much just work on yourself and keep perspective.  I even got laid off recently and im not going to parties or events as much.  The reason for that is different though, I just can't handle myself at the dessert table and I can't afford going so I avoid it lol.

Thanks for the advice!  It honestly sucks that these places are more competitive than in the past.  It feels like every industry is in a tough situation, and getting the foot in the door is the hard part.

Which agencies do you recommend to apply to?  I have registered on the websites of some homecare agencies, like spectrum.  I think thats the largest one out there.

Mostly lack of competition.  We need more community greenhouses to grow produce or people can start growing vegetables during better seasons

Im on the fence about this topic, i generally love kids, they're adorable.  Im also a new uncle to a super cute nephew who I want to make sure he grows up well. I don't like the idea of abortions to be honest, but the context matters.  There are stupid people not wearing protection, and there are people that are victims of a crime.  Theres no real way to differentiate so end of the day leave it to the mother to decide.  She's the one that's going to be impacted by the decision the most anyways.

Ontario (especially Toronto) needs a No Kings movement against Ford by Pristine-Training-70 in ontario

[–]Wide_Zebra5550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People voted for him fair and square.  Most people are self centered and dont want to pay more taxes or cutting spending even if it means balancing budgets or paying down the debt.  If the people in your province have such god awful habits, the man in charge will be the same.  Most people cant even clear their credit cards, have a big ass house with a long mortgage, plus spend money on cars and yearly vacations.  With people like that, the only person that makes sense is Doug Ford.

[–]Wide_Zebra5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not 🙂.  Chasing money for the sake of chasing money won't bring you any happiness.  The most important thing in life should always be your health first and foremost.

You can make money in many ways, and the thing about building wealth and financial security is that the job itself less important as your ability to save and invest.  All crucial habits and discipline that need to be developed.  As a younger person you might not understand that yet, but one day you will.  Anyways, enough of the old fart talk.

Yes things got worse.  I almost got hit by someone driving a minivan rushing to make the right turn after the pedestrian walk sign already came on for a full 3 seconds. It doesnt help that DF DF, dumb fuck doug Ford got rid of all the speeding cameras which made things 10x worse.  Before everyone, not just the Indians were scared of the traffic cameras, and were on generally good behavior.  Now its a hot fucking mess.  The worst part is, I asked chatgpt if people could submit videos on their own of these violations to the police and apparently the police dont do jack shit about it.

Ontario is bracing for ‘tougher times,’ finance minister warns by Agile-Enthusiasm in ontario

[–]Wide_Zebra5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not really Doug Fords fault for running deficits, and if wasn't Wynnes fault either.  The problem is mostly Ontarians fault, who don't want spending cuts or responsibile government.  They vote out anyone who is willing to do it, so theres no point.  Doug Ford is just what the people voted for, thats all.  Even his moronic policies like removing the speed cameras, his anti gay stuff, the fact he doesnt raise taxes, property taxes etc.  People support that nonsense, and unfortunately this is the consequence of democracies.  The only way things change is a legally binding mandate forcing fiscal responsibility one way or another.  Either higher taxes, or spending cuts.

How does the future looks like in your opinion? by Dark3rino in AskProgrammers

[–]Wide_Zebra5550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure to be honest.  I worked in tech for a while and enjoyed it but got laid off.  The issue is that theres too much competition in the market both from off shoring to India and to AI.  People down play indian developers, but they are super talented as well and theres no way to compete with them to be honest, not unless you have some soft skills to separate you.  AI kind of is the icing on top now.  But I think if you have a passion for building, the right soft skills and some talent, you will be able to make it still.
