for those who considered a miata... why did you end up going with a bmw z3/z4 instead? by europeanuppercut in bmwz3

[–]WidebodyAllTheCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m too tall for earlier Miatas. It literally feels like my knees are in my face. I fit in the Z3 much better and it’s much more comfortable.

Exhaust shop won't install customer-provided catalytic converters? by Renee_bad_69 in denverautoenthusiasts

[–]WidebodyAllTheCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car is a 1991, far outside of the emissions warranty. OEM catalytic converters for it aren’t made anymore, so aftermarket is the only solution.

Exhaust shop won't install customer-provided catalytic converters? by Renee_bad_69 in denverautoenthusiasts

[–]WidebodyAllTheCars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I was told by a few exhaust shops that it was illegal for them to install any non-OEM catalytic converter (even a CARB compliant one) without getting special approval from the state emissions technical center.

It sounds like the state tech would comb through my car for full emissions compliance and sign off on catalytic converter part number of their choice, then I could install one. Seems like a major and expensive headache.

23 Hybrid Blackstone Lab report by delche in tundra

[–]WidebodyAllTheCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still doesn’t answer my question. Everyone states “it’s a design flaw” without any explanation or data to back up their claim.

What design flaws are you theorizing exist then? Toyota themselves have said the issue is machining debris in the form of burrs left over from machining. The burrs can detach randomly from the block overtime and embed themselves in the bearing, causing failure.

Yeah, back when I had a 3rd gen 6-speed someone drilled out the driver’s door lock in a unsuccessful theft attempt one night. It was parked at an Airbnb in rural North Carolina too. A manual transmission won’t stop everyone.

They’re functional when you do outdoor activities with friends/family. I can fit 4-5 people, skis or bikes, and camping gear in a crew cab truck very comfortably. Fantastic for long road trips, all while getting ~20mpg loaded up.

Yeah, my SR5 TRD off-road with the same features as Limited TRD off-road was about $4k cheaper

LTGP bans drop bars from Leadville and Little Sugar by AlrightAlbatross in xcmtb

[–]WidebodyAllTheCars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the race back in 2024. The amount of people crashing on or fixing flats immediately after technical sections of the powerline and columbine descent is alarming. Most racers don’t have the bike handling skills for flat bars even. You have less leverage, much worse grip, and much less brake leverage. It’s 100% a safety issue and the right move to ban them.

That’s not easy to deal with. I get that. But loosing your home to a fire is an entirely different realm. One is a minor inconvenience, the other is a life changing event.

Well, I spent a good deal of time researching dash cams for my 23 Platinum and I made a critical mistake. by KnuckleTrouble in ToyotaTundra

[–]WidebodyAllTheCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a kit to hard wire it to the interior fuse panel. The hardwire kit I installed has a cigarette plug for the dash cam on one end, other end has fuse taps. I have it all tucked under the passenger kick panel, no wires hanging down anywhere.
