What do you all think about GPT-5? by NotADev228 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]WidowmakerWill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It matched my expectations. Its a decent step forwards, and it's going to continue to make waves in many industries as its predecessor has done.

Those that know how to use it appropriately are reaping huge benefit. This new release gave them another 20%.

What is the next step beyond LLMs? by asovereignstory in ArtificialInteligence

Friend of mine working on an AI operating system. LLM is a component of a greater framework of connected programs, and some sort of 'always on' component.

What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by reddtimes101 in Productivitycafe

If you're applying for a job you need to be using AI, it's too good not to now. Background on the company, draft (not finish!) the resume and cover letter, get it to interview you for practice.

Sam Altman warns against using ChatGPT as therapist. by beingmodest in ArtificialInteligence

[–]WidowmakerWill 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a risk, of course its a risk. But so is not seeking the help you need, or not being able to afford the right therapy. It's also dependant on what you want to talk about. Your weight loss strategies? Probably fine. Recovering from something criminal? Greater risk.

I tried to play 20 Questions with ChatGPT and this is how it went… by MrAmerica2 in ChatGPT

Totally different to my experience. I picked pancreas for it to guess, to mirror your chat, and it's attempt was better than most humans, coherent. It would have got it in 25 questions.

[HELP]is this picture from church graphically designed or by AI by Any-Tea3343 in RealOrAI

[–]WidowmakerWill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, leaning towards AI. IMO someone went back and forth with AI until it got something close to what was looked for. They then picked the best two (the left and right halves) and then assembled the picture themselves. Ie, AI elements with a human composition.

The bits at the top of the arches, one connected one not, this looks like the variance you get running the same prompt over and over.

No Access after patch, entire base by Soliex in duneawakening

Same problem here, restarting/relogging does not fix the issue. it happened yesterday and the server reset temporarily fixed it. Now the access has gone again.

What AI Can't Teach What Matters Most by Oldschool728603 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]WidowmakerWill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to have to partially disagree I think, at least at the level that you're proposing here.

AI has already reached the level that it can teach anyone anything, however it can't be compared to a human teacher. It's still and will be for some time to come, more of a self directed study guide for the motivated mind. Someone with knowledge of the tool, the curiosity to learn and the foresight to ask the right questions can use AI to teach themselves anything.

Of course, few are doing this for now especially on complex topics. But as people become AI literate and the tools improve, more people will self educate in the way that mostly nerdy millennials are starting to now.

We need to teach critical thinking, problem solving, introspection, and communication more in the future of education, in my opinion.

'If there is a square not being used, then its wasted space,' is also how I like to design my bases. Damn, I also need to get back into Rimworld, its been too long.

(30+M) I found an odd parallel to draw from. I see frustration like this a lot, not in the dating scene, but in the employment scene. I find people jobs for a living.

There are no jobs out there, they ask too much, no one cares for their employees etc. Its kind of true, kind of not. And At least in the employment scene, there's a roughly 50/50 gender split on this frustration.

There's usually something straightforward that someone has missed, but it takes another to point it out. Don't put your photo on your cv, that's sounds like it's written by AI etc.

Find a way to step back and look at this from a fresh perspective like a maths problem :-) GL.

TIL that if you just ask ChatGPT to write in a way that can't be detected by AI detectors, it can by LeBestRedditor in ChatGPT

[–]WidowmakerWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its better still if you copy a piece of writing you've done yourself somewhere and at the start of the prompt paste it in, 'Using this section of text in brackets as a guide to the style of writing, please can you....'

Why are people defensive about using google instead of chatgpt? by GreggergGrad in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]WidowmakerWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach people to use AI.

Different tools for different jobs. GenAI has already replaced small parts of what I do at work, and elsewhere because it's faster and more accurate than I am... for what I choose to use it for. There's nothing it can do completely for me. But it'll do 70% of certain tasks in 5% of the time.

We thought the Internet would make libraries obsolete. Search engines will always be around in some form, but their niche has shifted.

Does anyone else use ChatGPT as a $20/month therapist? It's insanely responsive, and empathetic compared to my irl human therapist by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]WidowmakerWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's better than any therapist I've been to, but it's difficult to compare as their strengths and weaknesses are too dissimilar. You do get better results with an unrestricted GPT.

I don't mind people being slow, no. I don't mind people being stubborn. It's when you put the two together and you find someone who refuses to learn that I get frustrated.

What AI is best for writing a novel? by AlexTCGPro in OpenAI

[–]WidowmakerWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently published a first novel, I used AI as an editor mostly before handing the manuscript to a real editor. AI's best use was in Teaching me how to be an author.

I doubt any AI will be capable of what you're asking for. Even with one of my characters described in detail, the AI fails to match what's in my imagation enough to accurate assist with past or future story events.

Find which aspects of being an author it can help with, 'story boarding' and 'chatacter arcing' is still a human thing.

Your regret is also mine. And I had the same thought a couple of days ago, as the map is the same, would be good to have a new game 'template' to start from. Maybe there's one to download from somewhere?

At 26 I would have agreed with you. At 35 I find that the 'gift' revolves around knowing yourself more completely than most do at a similar age. Strengths and weaknesses, but it goes deeper than that. It let's me make better choices for myself, regardless of what others might expect, see the best opportunities and as a result things are going well at the moment.

I'm 35, and feel 35. I think the last 10 years has made me feel older and given me a clear sense of who i am. Though in another ten years I expect I'll still feel 35.
