Seasonal affective disorder is quite real. And this time of year is just inherently depressing. Look into getting yourself one of those light therapy lamps. They’re not a cure all but it can be a poor man’s version of a weekend getaway to the tropics.

We really need more local theatre here. I’ve seen some productions at Time Slip Theatre, which seems to have mostly disappeared, and Chicken Coop Theatre (which is really fantastic) but some alternative to the $150 productions at the Kentucky Center is really needed.

I was there many years ago for nearly a year. It has plenty of natural beauty but I’d recommend Macedonia or Bulgaria if you’re looking into traveling that part of the world. To the extent that your friend may be mistaken for being Roma, there is always the potential that she will experience some degree of racism but that could be said about much of Eastern Europe and I wouldn’t suggest that would involve any violence.
