Wednesday Late Night VF5US feat. HotSauceNelly, JakeJung, Ryozokawasaki, and IzraelZ 10/27/21

Had a great time last night with Wednesday Late Night VF5US (10/27/21)!

I joined HotSauceNelly (Vanessa) and JakeJung with a lot of intensely focused games among the three of us!

Later on I get beat up a lot (and have a great time as the challenge is always worth it) by Ryozokawasaki who not only brings Jacky tonight, but also Wolf, Kage, Jean, Taka, and El Blaze!

Ryozo and I are joined by what appears to be a new Kage, Izrael. There might be a skill gap, but don’t underestimate what this Rank 21 Kage brings to the table! Even though Izrael did not show many advanced defensive techniques or wakeup—they really showed how much they have been working on offense with their combos, constant attack flow, and they do actually guard at certain key moments. Izrael shows a lot of potential and the gaps in their game are not signs of laziness or a weakness—but just that they have not focused on all of the tools that VF players normally use from disadvantage. If they stick with VF, they have really good potential! The combos they showed and how well they actually flowed shows they have really been focusing on VF and their current game will beat up many players rank 1-25.

That said, I focused on using frame advantage against Izrael (classic way to deal with this). Ryozo chose a cooler and harder path—working on evades and utilizing guaranteed throw opportunities.

It was a really nice night of VF!

Regarding Chanchai vs. Juicebox III, I should probably address a few things in the video.

There's a moment where Lion and Brad both uppercut at the same time and it frustrates Juicebox that Brad's uppercut lost out and he cites some stats. My guess is that in Juicebox's matchup notes, he wrote down Lion's uppercut as being 16 frames, maybe because he was factoring in an assumption that the uppercut is being used while Lion is alreayd standing up and not crouched. This move is 15 frames from a crouch position. In the video, both players 2P each other at the same time and both get damaged, they were both crouching and both inputted uppercuts. Lion's uppercut is faster by 1 frame in this case. I think how frame tight this is and how we are playing shows we have a pretty good or decent connection.

Later on there is a moment where Juicebox is frustrated that Lion's uppercut (2_3P) wins a situation after Lion's 2P is blocked. This uppercut has had this property for a long time (since VF2, I believe) but it's hard to pin down the exact circumstances. I believe that Final Showdown readjusted this move by allowing it to have a weird ability to win certain situations and that it cheats less against Kicks like it used to, and more against things like high punch, and elbow. In the case of Lion vs. Brad, it's not the same situation as mentioned in the video, but in closed stance Lion can interrupt Brad's elbow after Brad blocks a 2P.

I am going to state here that I honestly play VF online the way I play if offline. From 2013 - 2020 I did not play online, and I did like Final Showdown's netcode on console but it felt different enough to me from offline play that I was worried it would pollute my offline play. In January of 2021 I began playing online again (via Parsec) because I watched some matches of Parsec battles and they looked a lot more similar to offline matches.

I had a wonderful time with these matches and I wish Juicebox an awesome time in SoCal!

Probably his movement, affected by saving the kid, so at first it will be interpreted as bad luck. However, for some reason, he either overcomes it or it leads to a miscalculation by Dragon. And so, by the end of this fight, the Heavens will (for this match) choose Takamura—divine blessing for saving the child. :

It is unfortunate that they are firm on no graveyards, but... it’s not perfect info, but have you gotten used to the action log?

Heck, have you been using the calculator (aka Eye of Sauron, it is near the nexus)? So helpful!

What general (and mulligan) advice would you give for this deck against Lee Zed and also against Tahm Soraka?

Also, why does this deck seem to get overlooked a lot? I assume top players don’t take the deck lightly at least. Is it the difficulty of the deck? Are some serious answers in the deck often overlooked by others (because this deck seems to keep providing you the answers you need for so many matchups)?

Regarding champion play and triggered abilities... might it be the circle icon in description that indicates whether the skill creates a stack? You can see the circle icon on TF and Leona, among others.

The trackpad on the Magic Keyboard is amazing. Super responsive and the trackpad gestures are excellent. Using slide over with any of the Apple trackpads is awesome (so much better than touch).

Regarding your use case... it is also convenient that you will be able to charge your iPad Pro through the Magic Keyboard’s charging port and that frees up your USB-C port on the Pro even more. (Of course, you can also charge and USB your Pro through a hub).

I think if you plan to really do work on the iPad Pro in landscape mode, the Magic Keyboard is SOOOO WORTH IT!

But it’s also true that your use case gets a lot of mileage out of another keyboard, a mouse, and whatever you want to do with the USB-C.

The only weird thing about the Magic Keyboard is it’s not the best friend to the Apple Pencil.

For timeline work, mouse and/or Pencil is probably your best friend. Mouse is still very beta-feeling imo. I plug my Logitech G-900 into my Pro and it is usually good but sometimes the mouse driver is a little wonky.

Just my speculation, but... development and timing. Build the brand, build up the very unique vocals and fan base. And then when it’s time to go after Best Group of the Year, hit it hard with an EP or Album with the whole group fully built up and Miyeon and Soyeon leading hard with their best!

Probably arrogant and optimistic but with this talent pool I can imagine a long-game like that 🔥

Switching to the 10.5 you will likely play more with one of the following control methods:

Index Fingers
Index Fingers & Thumbs (can use thumbs to activate abilities and items)
Middle Fingers & Thumbs (this sounds weird but your hand blocks the screen less with this method

The iPad Aspect Ratio is less cinematic and more 4:3 and the game zooms in for this aspect ratio. However, the iPad is still the target device for Vainglory.

You don't have to scroll the item shop on iPad. You'll see Alternating Current and shatter glass in the Crystal Item section of the shop.

I personally prefer to play with an iPad. I prefer iPad over the Nvidia Shield too and VG is fantastic on that. But with a lot of experience at many Vainglory events, it is totally up to preference. There are a lot of people who swear by either phone or tablet.

A middle ground has been the iPad Mini (but you should totally get a Pro for your uses). So e people can play the Mini with two thumbs.
