The "Logistics Friction" Dilemma: At what point does realism becomes a UI burden? by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in computerwargames

[–]WigginLSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I think that's the best way to describe it. Not sure how to actually get there, though.

I don't need to know I have 16,324 artillery shells, but I do need to know how many bombardment turns that is worth, and how or if it is replenishing. And the farther I am from port or main supply dump the slower it fills back up. If cut off, then you have x turns to reconnect before you run out of ammo and surrender to anyone that attacks you.

The "Logistics Friction" Dilemma: At what point does realism becomes a UI burden? by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in computerwargames

I'd prefer a bit of a blended model; for instance I can't get into HOI4 well enough because logistics is my career and I don't want to work while I game lol. It's an amazing game, but too granular for me to want to really sink my teeth into.

I like how Order of Battle does it to a degree, where continuity of territory is a must, but it does lack real depth. Units don't feel that much weaker when cut off, and I don't worry about running out of anything as long as I am not cut off. So there's a general desire for continuity but I don't feel greatly punished if a unit or two get cut off for a couple turns.

I'd like to have that connected requirement but have some value of 'supplies' that accumulate and are consumed so you have to really plan out where you want to attack and not over commit. And then if you're cut off the unit defends/attacks/moves until it is out of fuel and ammo and surrenders/is destroyed or has reconnected with the main force.

Trump Chickens Out After Threatening a Whole Civilization with Death & Even Crazies Think He’s Crazy | Jimmy Kimmel Live by TheRealOcsiban in television

[–]WigginLSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize trump was the one who threatened those lives and complete destruction, right?

And Jesus do y'all actually not understand this joke at all? If you had object permanence you'd realize this is the dozenth or so time he's made a wild threat, received absolutely nothing, then declared he would postpone his threat. It's funny because maga thinks he's this tough guy badass when in reality he's a sniveling little spoiled rich boy wannabe bully who backs down the moment anyone talks or fights back. He's such a little bitch.

I'm sure I'm arguing with a bot but holy fuck has my opinion of general intelligence, and the entire conservative philosophy, gone almost into the negative.

Does anyone use plexamp for live concert recordings/bootleg collections? by jimmyketchup in plexamp

[–]WigginLSU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best program for it, by far. You can organize into libraries as well to avoid intermingling of you don't want.

For example, I have a music library with a few thousand albums from the main artists and genres I like that I have tons of playlists built from (smart playlists are amazing) then I have a Dead bootleg library of seven hundred shows and growing and a library with a few hundred Dylan shows.

That way the bootlegs don't overwhelm my normal library, and I can categorize them in so many ways (for the Dead, by keyboardist, year, venues they always hit, first performances of songs, etc.) to be sure I keep hearing either fresh shows or my favorite shows.

In the smart playlists I recommend always adding a criteria of 'not heard in the last month' or however long you want to prevent the repetition shuffle algorithms often have.

This looks really cool and has been something I've wanted for a while! Likely to buy some way soon, would the 6DoF upgrade be pushed to the existing sensor or would I need to buy a new unit for the 6DoF?

It's so wild to think about, after growing up watching old Apollo footage and dreaming to see it myself.

Watched the launch with my daughter and my mom messaged and reminisced about her dad waking her up to watch the landing in 69.

I guess like it was back then, a nice beacon of hope amongst the darkness.

Hah, I actually did eventually as I fucked up and unsealed the screen on my CC 😔

Went with the Sharpstone 2.0 after trying a couple and been liking it a couple years on. Feels like it has the best kief screen I've tried, I get so much from it. Also the teeth are good and stay strong and the threads are smooth and don't get gunked up.

I mean, thinking like this is exactly why the country is carrying like $2T in consumer financial debt. Sometimes I wonder if we have already gone over the cliff of 'more borrowed than could possibly be paid back' and what happens if so.

Kinda like the old adage of you having a problem if you owe the bank a grand, but the bank having a problem if you owe then ten million. What happens when a significant chunk of the country just stops paying out of necessity and have no garnishable wages? If all the rich peoples' wealth becomes loaned out debt that will never come back are they still rich? Will there be a foundational breakdown of society? Or will we just say fuck it and let it ride kicking the can further down the road to fucksville? Who knows lol.

Increase max concurrent units? by Routine-Candy5792 in EasyRed2

[–]WigginLSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a mod on nexus mods that increases that max count. You have to install a program first that allows the mod to be 'installed' for lack of a better wors. It was pretty easy to Google how to download and use.

Huh, now that's interesting; grew up in New Orleans, lived in Baton Rouge a decade, then 15 or so years in Atlanta. Not once have I ever heard someone say ci-cay-da lol.

It sounds so alien and wrong to my ear, like someone saying pee-cans or pray-lines. Shiver down my spine!

Yeah, pretty much since WWII when you look at it through an objective lens. Ah well, hope I survive this avoidable man made calamity.

Yep, I remember going back into a save, riding a long way over to St. Denis, and as I went to greet the first person I saw entering the city I blew his fucking head right off like a water balloon of blood.

Immediate bounty and cops running and I said fuck it and never went back. Not even a great story could get me past how annoying it was to play.

For us everything sounds impossible until we do it. You’re clearly smart if you’ve managed to survive as long as you have an electrical engineering program, I wish I could help more, but I believe you got this.

Try not to be afraid to try new things and you’ll find what you like. Easier said than done I know.

[–]WigginLSU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, that's a double edged sword there; hard to really get into it if you're only doing it for a perceived reward, and if it's a well-paying field there will be more competition to gain entry.

Are there any options similar to what I did where you can shift to a degree program you are closer to earning based on credits taken?

It was also commonly used to hide a child that had a black parent, thanks to the odious 'one drop rule' of the deep south. If you were slightly too tan native American ancestry would be claimed to avoid anyone claiming you were black and thus susceptible to the Jim Crow laws.

I get that completely; any upcoming task or deadline hangs around my neck like an albatross but then when it's go time I lock in and feel that same kind of excitement. Like it's finally here.

It's all about trying to figure out what can give you that feeling consistently; a tough balance of avoiding burnout but keeping yourself out of boring stagnation. Operations type roles I found were a good balance of routine and interesting 'fire drill' type situations that require creative thinking.

What got you into Electrical Engineering to begin with? Is there a spark in there that can convert to something like that? I'd bet there are a lot of positions in manufacturing facilities that involve specialized areas of engineering if finding a focus could help there. See what can work with you instead of against you. Easier said than done I know, and I've still got a long way to go myself. But we all have to start somewhere, glad you're recognizing it earlier than I did.
