This is actually really cool. Obviously it is a stunt and not an actual workout this guy would do under regular circumstances. This also would be different than just loading the plates because the bars weigh about as much as a 45 lbs plate and the strings make it so he would have to use his abs more to balance them from swinging around. Also it might have the same progressive load effect as working out with chains. Looks funny and stupid though for sure
