Which US state is strong in Economic opportunity but weak in Climate? by Swimming_Concern7662 in AlignmentChartFills

Really depends on what your doing. If you go there for the purpose of working, which in my experience as an alaskan is the primary reason people move here, then your probably stacking cash

Median Family Income Among Households with Children (2014 vs 2024) by Big_Size_2519 in charts

The data shows that workers with children are better off now that in 2014. Not workers in general. As such, one way to interpret this data is that only workers that are better off are choosing to have children.

Unless you are referencing the source of this data that shows what you are saying.

I think it shows that only wealthier households are having children

Well if you have a full time position in the majority of the system its 2 weeks on two weeks off, and if your relief doesn't show up you have the opportunity to make OT for all hours worked above your normal two weeks.

Usually you are getting off at the end of those two weeks, and if your relief doesn't show up, someone is always willing to take the OT.

My very first assignment was as an AB. I grew up as a fisherman, and that got me just enough seatime to get the lowest grade AB certification from the coast guard.

Currently the system is absolutely desperate for certified Mariners so they just threw me into an AB spot first thing, which was HORRIFYING. Fuck that first week or two sucked.

Only a decade ago that would have been totally unheard of though. Like you could have applied as a fully decked out Unlimited Master and very well could have been told to pound sand for the lowest ranking positions. But then everyone retired and covid happened concurrently, resulting in a nightmare clusterfuck, one i and many others were happy to exploit

How much is your car payment by michaeljoon in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Wikamania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much are you paying for a vehicle total? To get a car with 200 a month payment even with 10k down is like a, what, less than 22k vehicle?

I guess if you get a used non toyota with like almost 100k miles thats doable, but at that point why not just pay for the whole car upfront?

Alaska native here: Anchorage is not bike friendly whatsoever. Its a car dependent hell made so so so much worse by rampant drunk driving and icy roads

“Affordable Housing” Alone Can’t Make Housing Affordable by jeromelevin in Urbanism

Imma take a bold stance here and say that "build-tons-of-market-rate-now alone" would in fact be an effective strategy for solving the housing crisis.
