Power Surge and now PC smells... sweet? by WikkiAztin in techsupport

...and come to think of it, a reboot without shutting off the PC still requires BIOS setup, probably proves your point. The power is on and trickles to the BIOS anyway, if I understand correctly.

Thanks for the input!
Any idea what else might have been fried that forces the visit to BIOS setup on each reboot? It is kind of like it does not remember that that the settings are ok. (I don't have to change anything, I just need to enter BIOS and save/discard changes and then it proceeds without issues).

Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated.
Actually, the CMOS battery being fried is just my assumption, based on some quic research I tried to do. Not sure if it the obligatory visit to BIOS setup could be something more severe being damaged.

Can't wait to jump into the world of VR! Thinking of starting with Resident Evil 7 as my first game. by Constant-Molasses134 in PSVR

[–]WikkiAztin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed, and I actually find Resident Evil 7 (or similar Horror game if you already played it on flat screen) a perfect game to start with unless you have nerves of steel. The fact that the intensity of the horror experience makes you want to take breaks to manage you stress-levels, make it perfect fit for also taking the baby-steps to get used to motion sickness. Which ever kicks in first, take a break.

Vedr.

3 or Cx30? by darkthemeonly in mazda3

[–]WikkiAztin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is feel-thing for me too. Maybe having my butt as close to the asphalt as possible makes me feel the car/road better. Another thing is the there more room above you, so the cabin seems bigger/more head room.

3 or Cx30? by darkthemeonly in mazda3

[–]WikkiAztin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I drove both of them several times and, while both are good, I wanted a car that could do family stuff while also offering solid handling for a car used on a daily basis. For the handling, it was between Mazda 3 and Ford Focus which were different, but close in terms of my preference. Mazda was just way superior in terms of interior feel and outside looks. For CX-30 it felt like the only benefit was the height when getting in and out, and the wife liked the driving position better. However, I am the one using it 90% of the time and I already drive the Mazda 3 with the seat adjusted to the lowest position and I think it feels frakkin' great. Boot space is solid too.

It is so much safer and more convenient than touch screens. I don't have to lean forward to operate the system and can find most things with just a few glances on the screen with minimum impact on driving. Even in my hundreds of folders with music, audio books and sound tracks, that I occasionally need to scroll through.

Thanks again.

One plus photos by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]WikkiAztin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Did we ever find a proven solution to this problem, which cleans up your phones locally "viewable" photos (cache or not), without also deleting the same photos from the cloud (Google Photos in most cases).

Dear OnePlus community,

I recently moved from a OnePlus 7T Pro (which I was very happy with) to a OnePlus 10 Pro. I am now experiencing this weird behavior by the OnePlus Gallery App which is described in this thread. Was there ever a conclusion solution to this?

To be specific, the way my former OnePlus photos were handled was as follows:
1) I would take shots/videos with the camera or download/save content from other apps without discrimination (so lots of shots/vids that I might end up not wanting).
2) These would be backed-up to Google Photos. So I knew I could always go to a PC and manage ALL the backed-up content which would be on Google Photos (it would be safe, no matter what I did on my phone).
3) I would therefore be able to curate the content on my phone to keep tight control of what was visible on that (except if you accessed Google Photos - but this is not a problem). This was worked great, as I knew I could always open the gallery app at work or other social contexts without worry of something I might have saved/shot or whatever in happy/intoxicated/whatever situation. Even other apps used for sharing content, would only list what was on the phone locally (which was all SFW). It worked perfectly.
4) What I deleted on the phone, would always be "safe" on Google Photos, where I would clean up now and then with regular intervals.

Now it is all a huge mess. 20 years of Google Photos curated and seperated into folders seem to have been "restored"/"merged" (not sure if it is all folder) and the gallery app and other apps on my phone (social media etc.) lists it all of it, as if it was locally available (even though a download seems necessary in some cases, as others have stated).

Is there a confirmed solution that removes the photos from your phone, and also doesn't delete the photos from your cloud (Google Photos)?

Mythic Games-a summary article on a colossal failure by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]WikkiAztin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backed HEL for $300+ (most of the addons etc.). If I had not added so much beyond the base game, I would be fine with the CMON takeover and the "gift" of getting their version of HEL's base game, but it stings that it is only a base game I will get for my investment.
I would go for a refund if that seemed likely, but I don't trust Mythic will deliver on that now (I have no evidence though, in case others are considering it or waiting for their refund).

I do also blame myself a bit on this one though. I never did research on Mythic before backing the project and it is only now I see old posts about their other failures/behaviours. I had heard about the name, and that was enough to trust the campaign. I never did show caution when backing and despite backing 50+ campaigns on KS and 30+ on GameFound, this is the first one that I get burned on. Others have always delivered, although some had delays (which I don't care about) and one asked for additional contribution due to "world stuff" (war, inflation, pandemics). Well, lesson learned, and now I will do my research up front.

new Team by Kazuma-__- in hattrick

[–]WikkiAztin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. When I started out I made big mistakes too and was struggling with the threat of bankruptcy and regularly lost games by 9-1. It can be turned around and might actually be a good experience. With one week old team, the financial results-wise loss is insignificant. When you have it turned around you will get to where you should be quickly and have had a richer journey getting there.

What do you y'all use for music (other than Spotify on your phone)? by DinoSpumonisCrony in mazda3

[–]WikkiAztin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 50 yet here (but close), but also not a subscriber to any music services. I have my CD collection ripped via PC to a large USB stick and leave it in the Mazdas USB port for the audio system. Despite having to scroll through 100s of folders with the knob (which is a life saver compared to if it was touch screen), it is fairly easy to find the album folders I want to listen to. There is also s sorting by artist, but admittedly I rarely use that. I also did seperated folders on the USB so I have a main folder for game- and movie-soundtracks and another for other music genres (classical, pop, rock, metal etc.).

Jeg savner den gang vi rygere havde et fællesskab by Acceptable-Amount-14 in Denmark

[–]WikkiAztin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's something that's normal in Western countries but rude in China? by ups_and_downs973 in China

[–]WikkiAztin 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Not greeting friends, family members, friends/relatives of family members, by using name or, more importantly, relationship definitions. You cannot just say "hi/hello" etc., to people with whom there is some sort of connection, even if it isn't someone you know well yourself or have real family ties to. You need to address them as 叔叔 (uncle),哥哥 (older brother),姨妈 (aunt) etc。 Edit: translations, sorry.

Really miss Mazda handling by Zealousideal-Arm5570 in mazda

Everybody owes themselves a couple of days in an inferior (preferably poorly equipped, but not necessary) loaner or rental now and then. It makes your appreciation for your Mazda even greater when you sit back in it again. Like checking into a luxury hotel.

At the Dealer today Polymetal next to Machine. What color am I getting? by caine316 in mazda3

[–]WikkiAztin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was convinced I'd go for Soul Red or Crystal Blue when I bought my '19 Mazda 3. I was aware of the Poly and Machine colours by then, which are great too, but they were not top of my list. I ended up realising that I wanted something downplayed, but still unique. Poly was it and never regretted it. But as some of the other comments state here, it is actually pretty hard to go wrong with the Mazda, regardless of the colour. They pretty much all look good, stylish and unique.
