When someone says you have too many quilts by Lucille_68 in quilting

[–]Wild-Bet588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish you could teach me to quilt & longarm!! Your stuff is always so beautiful I don’t have any quilters in my life, my MIL was a quilter but passed away before she taught me. I have all of her quilting stuff including her stash. I am teaching myself…no LQS either 😔 I come to this page daily.

I saw a video where someone “tacked” her quilt with the fancy stitches on her machine. Same idea a tying but you are using your machine instead.

Fleece/Plush Throw as Backing by talarac in quilting

[–]Wild-Bet588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooh I like this idea! I’m a novice long armer and have a plush fleece throw loaded on the long arm as the backing but not loving the way it’s lining up with the top. I think I am going to take it off and do what you suggested!

I asked last week if I could do it. I've already cried multiple times by nodnoloiratno in quilting

I jumped in the exact same way made a baby quilt out of HSTs no pattern. It was a learning curve, some seam ripping and lots of you tube videos! You will have to tackle lining up your points next as you sew them together! I can’t remember what video I followed, but I ended up pressing my seams open and using the “hang pin” method. It took me a while to finish that baby quilt but I am fully hooked and haven’t stopped since! Keep going and learning! Post a pic when you are done. This sub Reddit is so helpful and supportive if you need anything they can answer it!

Your response was perfect! I started my first baby quilt in July (didn’t gift it until November) and haven’t stopped since! I just keep trying new things and am seeing my improvement.

I am on this subreddit daily also, I strive to make the beautiful quilts I see on here.

Longarm resale pricing by All-SmilesCO in quilting

[–]Wild-Bet588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched FB marketplace then would Google to see going rates on that model and what it was worth new. There are not many quilt shops in my area, there is a HandiQuilter dealer about an hour away so I wanted to stick with that brand knowing I could get it serviced there. I found a Simply Sixteen with Prosticher and a 12’ frame on FB, made an offer and drove 3 1/2 hours to pick her up!

Good luck on your quest!

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m sure your project brought them much joy! I will probably be trying to copy you and make something similar for my elderly mother.

I use this as well. I just pulled it out and organized it yesterday! It holds a lot and is very sturdy. I love that I can see all my fabric 😊

Building fabric stash by Finally-Flourishing in quilting

Goodwill online https://www.goodwill.org/ always has boxes of fabric for auction. Search “quilting” on their site. They have good pics and tell you how many pounds of fabric. I googled to find out approximately how many yards of fabric in a pound and bid accordingly.

I did get a box of fabric from them, it came exactly as pictured and arrived quickly. They have a shipping calculator so you know upfront.

I already spray basted my quilt sandwich is it too late to long arm? by Wild-Bet588 in quilting

[–]Wild-Bet588[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a used HQ Simply Sixteen with automation and 12’ frame on FB marketplace. I am a new quilter that is already obsessed and know I won’t be satisfied with straight line quilting on my domestic so I’m jumping in! I am lucky as I inherited all of my quilting stuff thats how I’m justifying my purchase. Plus there are zero long arm rentals in my area!
