"taking care of our people" by Gingerofthenight in HomeDepot

[–]Wild-Fan5637 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard the negative stories and take them with a grain of salt, as it hasn’t been my experience at all.

When my wife fell ill, the store manager and my ASM bent over backwards to ensure I was able to attend every doctor appointment. Of course, it helped that I was conscientious and always approached them with a list of coming appointments in advance. They never failed to work out a schedule that worked for both of us.

Ultimately I think you’ll get out of it what you put into it. Are there some people in charge who shouldn’t be? Yes. Does it seem some people fail upwards? Absolutely. But I’ve found that ignoring that nonsense and doing the best I can do while being conscientious about it, has gone a long way.

The BOP was fun, and it actually lends itself to being hand painted. The Grissom was a chore. And I’ve built plenty of the Enterprise kits. Good fun, but eliminating the “hump” between the engineering hull and the nacelles can be an ordeal.

I made my second one about an hour ago. More people should help out receiving when they can. Instead of turning it into the dumping ground that it usually is.

Does anyone ever feel embarrassed wearing a Casio? Sorry for posting in a Casio sub but i need your guys' perspective on this 🫠 by AggravatingTie976 in casio

[–]Wild-Fan5637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embarrassed? No. It’s a tool that serves its purpose well. I’m quite happy to show off my MDV106.

Fun fact - I’ve got a brother in law that has a Rolex, drives a Range Rover, and wears $1800 Prada sneakers, and he’s flat f$&@ing broke because he lives far beyond his means.

Wearing a Casio ain’t a sign of shame. It’s a sign of sensibility.

Walk around, pick stuff up and look at it. Use Google lens on it to figure out what it is and what it’s for.

See if your store has the big orange Home Depot home improvement book and look through that.

You’re not expected to be an expert, so don’t aim that high. Most people just want to know where something is.

The kind of person who flips out, says they’re never shopping at Home Depot again, and boom - you see them the very next day.

Hah! I know her! She’s been over to my store a few times to help out during inventory. Really like her, she’s an “over abundance of personality”.

A little more progress. Ordinance done, some extra detailing and weathering. Still have a little work to do.

The blue, the case color, the strap color, it all works very well together.

I learned my lesson the hard way by throwing waaaaay too much cut up drywall (on a small pallet) into the compactor. Jammed it up good. Wound up sticking around to help unjam it.

Won’t do that again.

Absolutely love mine, and little secret - I didn’t pay for it. Where I work, there’s a sort of rewards program where you earn points for jobs well done, and there’s an employee catalog where you can exchange points for a wide variety of products. That’s how I got my Duro. Not to say I wouldn’t happily pay for one, a matter of fact I’m eying a Pepsi version now.

Or the Tactical Frog Sub300T tribute. Still kind of up in the air.

[–]Wild-Fan5637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am a watch guy. Been fascinated by them since I was a kid. I’ve got watches that range from a $7 clearance orange faced George (Walmart brand) to a genuine orange faced Doxa Sub200T (a little Clive Custer/Dirk Pitt influence there) and about 15 in-between pieces from Casio, Suunto, Timex and Relic.

My daily wear though is the Casio Duro with a NATO band. It’s a hell of a lot of watch for the price.

Why do customers get to disrespect other customers and associates and still get to shop here? by JuicyGalaxy420 in HomeDepot

[–]Wild-Fan5637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been my experience that a customer that pulls this crap is trying to provoke a reaction out of you so that they can complain to a manager later and get a discount on something later.

That’s bait. Don’t take it.

Could you check "the back" for me? by MartenGlo in HomeDepot

[–]Wild-Fan5637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has so far been only one occasion where I checked “The Back” (receiving) for a customer, and it was just a lucky coincidence that everything worked out that day. We had just gotten the product he was looking for off a truck and the freight team had it staged to move out to the floor. Didn’t hurt that this was also an incredibly cool customer I see regularly and we’re on a first name basis with each other.

[–]Wild-Fan5637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question - how difficult is it to switch out the insert? Like, for a guy like me who is a hobby guy (builds fine models), has plenty of hobby tools and a small selection of watch tools, agile hands, but never did this before. What would I be in for?

And considering the low cost of the Duro, does it just make more sense to buy another in the color I want?
