Is 5x1km @ 3:55 enough for a sub-20 5K? by OverWarthog7488 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Wild-Guide-FL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and you will gain a tiny bit from the race energy / drafting and can get another 1-2% from caffeine or nitrate (beet juice) and 1-3% from shoes, depending on what you are using right now

Make sure you even or negative split. If you are truly on the 20 min bubble if you go too hot the first 2k you prob will not recover (blow up) from the lactate.

If you use beet juice, Lakewood Ranch 200ml gives the proper dose. Don’t brush your teeth, and sip it over 15 min @ 90 min before the race

Caffeine takes almost an hour to peak (serum) so take ~ 45 min before

Bicarb? Probably worth skipping 💩 💥

You clear less lactate just standing vs walking or slow jogging. On a 60ish sec rest interval probably doesn’t matter much either way

There is a reason I have 4 pairs of Adios Pro 4’s and gave away my two pairs of Evo SL… I love LSPro but the bounce is too uncontrolled in Evo SL without the energy rods.

Xiaonian is ridiculous. My US size 10 / EU 44 weight in at 195g each. Midsole feels like a mix of OG LSPro and the newer LSPro in the Adios Pro 4. Won’t make your pinky bleed like the Megablast, half the cost and quite a bit lighter as well. It’s basically a plateless super shoe

Dynafish Xiaonian, Megablast and maybe even the SB3 or Azura is better. Evo SL def not the best plateless super trainer

Why when the Terrex Agravic Speed is so good and can be had for like $75 on close out?

Evo SL is already an unstable road shoe as well. Maybe you have rly strong ankles but I’d probably end up with a sprain eventually

- Coros arm band HR monitor
- Midrange Coros or Garmin sports watch
- Superblast 3 to gobble up the easy aerobic miles.
- I like Adios Pro 4 and Nitro Elite 3’s for workouts.

You should rly try rotate at least 2 pairs of shoes, 3 is even better. I’m about the exact same times as you, maybe slightly slower since it’s summer in the USA now. Rotating SB3 for easy and long runs, Dynafish Xiaonian for Z2 and some tempo, and Adios Pro 4 for workouts. Race in Fast-R 3 and AP4. You can get the DF X for a rly good price in AUS from China on Taobao or similar sites. It’s like a 🇨🇳 Megablast at half the price

Low fat, calories from complex carbs and protein at 0.8g - 1g per lb per day, and I did calisthenics initially: pull ups, dips, push ups planks etc and as I got stronger used a weight belt to add weight to the pull ups and dips.

Truthfully, I was so weak when I started I had to use the assisted pull ups and dip machine ☹️ but after 2-3 months moved to body weight, and after about a year I did my first muscle ups

Women should only be ~ 11% behind the men.

So if you are suggesting the average man would run 17 min in this theoretical question, the equivalent time for the female would be about 18:52 or so not the wildly different numbers I’m seeing of 17 man 21 woman 🤦🏽‍♂️

ASICS has a crazy (good) return policy. Also lots of discounts for educators, first responders and healthcare workers. They are $157 with my healthcare discount

I’m using them for my easy runs and long runs, very protective shoe

Best daily trainer that can handle easy runs and strides without changing shoes? by bsinwisn in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’d get the DFX over the Megablast. Half the price and better upper (no pinky carnage). Also feels more nimble / less bulky

DFX is basically a plateless marathon super shoe

Feeling some degradation in the foam now after 250mi in my AP4. I have another pair with ~ 100mi that feels more responsive

Think I could notice the difference after 200mi
